His contract is year three of four.
60mil, started over 17mil, next year under 13mil!
other teams do shit like this but Aller works it.
Good for players to get more sooner. Time value of money.
Good for teams, more cap space.
Knick season is 82 games. Be nice to get a good seed but key is not meeting the top team until conf. finals. Lets assume thats Boston.
They sandbagging KP for its run. Makes sense.
Mitch? He needs 30 games to shake the rust and get that instincts back. He wants to win, but also wants leverage for next year when he is in a contract year.
He is easy a 20mil per year player if healthy. Does he gamble on himself and go full free agent?
How does he or Knicks value him to extend if so desired?
Putting contract bonuses is correct based on games played but it can really mess up a teams cap if close to an apron.
This guy could be a force if healthy thru a playoff run.
OR trade bait.
Or, ride it out and let him walk but we get season and a half while developing or trading for a new back up.
Not like other teams will not have the same choices. Im sure he wants to be in NOLA close to home. They would face the same issues regarding his health.
His trade value might not be great unless its to a contending team that needs a back up at a good price. Thats us!
I'm mentally ready for Mitch to never suit up again.
If we can trade him for useful pieces, that's fine.
Personally, I hold MR. His impact, when healthy, is huge. His contract is not big.
Any one you trade him won’t be able to contribute. the money has to line up.
Some suggested bundling him and McBride- unless you get an all star back, you can’t make that trade.
Frustrating. You have to hope that like some big men that went through injuries in their early career, they get to a place that they can produce over the long term.
We are essentially picking between Mitch and Achiuwa beyond this year. Can’t afford to keep both and fill out the roster. Once Mitch comes back his health will dictate which we hold onto.

Mitch has a team friendly contract and is one of the best defensive centers in the league. He’s also 26 and in the prime of his career. Achiuwa is a mediocre backup PF masquerading as a mediocre backup C. This is an absolute no brainer
The injuries actually benefit the Knicks because it reduces the market and leverage for Mitch after next year. He’s not going to get a ridiculous $87 million offer like what Hartenstein got
At this point I just want Mitch to be healthy for the playoffs. If sitting out September to January is necessary for him to be healthy from January to June then so be it. Mitch has been out so long that you guys forgot what he adds to this team. I am interested in seeing him and KAT share the floor. Theoretically they could be the Sheed/Big Ben for today’s NBA. If he does come off the bench then that’s just crazy having Deuce, Precious, and Mitch as 6-9 in your rotation. Those guys could easily start. Not to mention Tyler, Huk, and Dadiet waiting in the wings.

This. We can get W’s first half of the season without him we need him for the playoffs. No way the Celtics do what they did a couple days ago if Money Mitch is on the floor

I wouldn’t say his contract is team friendly especially under this new CBA and with him not playing, but I agree that the injury may keep his value down and more likely to sign a cheap extension if the Knicks are interested in keeping him. Which is a big question mark considering his lack of availability throughout his career.
Contract that starts at 17mm and finishes at under 13mm in a world were cap usually increases is team friendly.
