Let one slip away here. Team is clearly still not there on offense. Just too many missed bunnies and sloppy play. Despite that we look damn good for long stretches. Long season and a brutal schedule for a brand new team, playing top East contenders who are all fine tuned chemistry wise.
Not sweating this one. Shoulda won it tho.
Knixkik wrote:Not too concerned about this one. Knicks could have won it. They shot poorly and lost to a great regular season team.
We gave up 36 pts in the 4th quater....Garland killed us in the 4th quarter and we are not going to win many games with Brunson going 8-24!

Yes, because we actually dominated the game in the 3rd. But we lost focus while they never lost intensity. Then we lose Hart and we completely deflate. And we keep forcing Brunson like we don’t have a whole team of capable scorers. This team is still way off. Definitely a disappointing loss. The contenders in the East are sharp and strong out of the gate. We are not there yet.
Cavs did a good job taking away JB's inside game. KAT should have touched the ball more.
That dunk attempt by Huk very early in his career, isnt something we've seen from Sims in year 4, and one of the reasons why Huk is taking his minutes. Huk gave up some drives, but Thibs is letting him work through rookie mistakes. Shows Thibs faith in him to figure things out.
Still think we need more scoring off the bench, some reliable instant offense.
We missed Randles playmaking.

None of them are playmakers so they can't create for themselves or others. They need to be setup or have an advantage on a rotating player.
iHart did so much for the O.
Knicks gonna need more time to figure out the KAT thing.

True, but then you have your only playmaker forcing it inside instead of trying to set others even if it’s just to free himself. Brunson was doing a bit of hero ball in the 4th and he has more talent. We are definitely not even close to un tapping our potential with Towns and Bridges.

Yea I was gonna say it definitely seems like we’re not shooting enough 3s.
The lack of 3s tells me we’re not that comfortable yet. Everyone trying to get closer to the basket or over facilitate instead of letting it fly. A lack of confidence as a unit IMO.

It tells me we are not making the defense rotate enough. All that BOS did was drive and kick to tear holes in our defense. We are not beating our man enough to make the defense open up the 3point shot from other than Hart and they are leaving him open on purpose. When the bench is in they play off of Sims and I assume they will off Huk. The way you counter that is throw them lobs but the only player we have who can do that is Kolek and he is not getting any time. So teams clog the paint and we can't counter it or we depend on Hart making the 3. Hart is essentually cancelling out KATs spacing and we have none when KAT sits.
So I take it the Knicks are headed to the play in. While Cleveland is going undefeated this season

Nope. My worry is that Johnnie Bryant was the savant on offense pushing modern basketball concepts and we replaced him with old school Pick N Roll (Mo Cheeks) and low post (Mark Bryant) guys. Offense looks pretty antiquated.
Shot selection and floor awareness is terrible. 18 foot jumpshots are the bane of my watching existence. You take a 18 foot jumpshot, you might as well hand the other side a tech free throw because it’s near the equivalent mathematically. I don’t want to win, here is a free point. Step behind the line jerkface.
Granted it takes time to gel, but the ball movement is terrible and the spacing isn’t there cause they are able to collapse on the ball without punishment. We have a ton of individual talent but no team. And the roster is off balance.
Really though we were getting a 4-1 or 5 out motion offense with these moves AND that it would be easy to implement cause they already knew it.
Not looking to burn the house down. But curious why we don’t like 3s or eFG any more. (TS% is weird now with the new whistles the refs are using, it’s like you can only have one protected player).
Kudos to Kenny Atkinson and Johnnie Bryant. That team is really well coached and made adjustments after Brunson went down to cancel our lead.
Duo of Allen and Mobley is for real. They big, we are not right now.
I saw a good Cav's team take advantage of our depth issue. Payne give and take. He had a bad stretch there going at it alone.
Cavs played good defense on Brunson. Credit their defense.
Garland went off and Mitchell stayed in his lane and let him.
Cav's cover the 3 well and are big when you go at the rim.
Not sure is Sims was off, not feeling well, sucks, or Huk just bigger.
THat we had to counter their towers with Kat and Huk at the same time?
Atkinson is a good coach and has them playing good ball early.
Evan Mobley is not the kid knicks pushed around two years ago. He all grown up!

Maybe but I think volume 3s in today’s league requires “good” 3s as you mention but also letting it fly on breaks and off pull ups and step backs. Those are confidence 3s we aren’t taking right now. Brunson isn’t really stepping into 3s and KAT isnt bombing away from out there. They are passing them up. Mikal also. All favoring methodical 1:1. Shows me they are overly concerned about taking a better shot.

DDV effect
Yea and also Shamet injury because he’s the closest we have to that kind of pure shooter.

Nope this is all expected and doesn’t sting at all to me right now. I had Cleveland pegged as a top 3 regular season team this year. Continuity matters and it’s showing right now. But Knicks have shown enough flashes to have me excited.
Hukporti over Sims is a big deal too. Huk is an impact player. That’s gonna help us all year.
