Over the past couple of years, I have seen a bit of talk about trading for Jordan Clarkson to boost the bench.
Why?
I've never been impressed with this guy. What does he do well? I just don't get it.
He's like 95 lbs soaking wet, can blow him over. Can't defend, not impressive scoring, not a Thibs player.
Can we put this one to bed?
Kessler, on the other hand, is a center in the same vein as Mitch and iHart. Totally a fit on a Thibs team.
Young Clarkson wasn't that bad. It's just hard for some people to keep off the weight... Wait, we're not talking about Kelly are we?
Clarkson’s number keeps coming up because his salary is close to Robinson’s. His volume stats are reasonable but his advanced stats are miserable. You could replace his production with any G-League gunslinger.
His stats are questionable but he does attack the paint/rim aggressively and can pass some --- thinking we need someone off the bench to get into the lane and he can also get hot.
There were combos where combined with Kessler/Clarkson could be part of a Mitch trade - in theory.
I didn't realize his stats (shooting %) were so yuck.

You could basically ask Deuce to make bad decisions with volume and get
The same numbers.

Not arguing for Clarkson and I tend to agree with your Deuce comment --- just that Deuce doesn't have first step or passing ability a guy like Clarkson has.
Again to be clear -- my thoughts on Clarkson were built around him packaged with Kessler (maybe a healthier big option for always injured Mitch).
Sexton looked pretty damn good - a little bit more under control and certainly would fit in with Knicks from the perspective of very good shooting %s.

Yes he’s the guy I would want. Makes a little too much money. Wish he had Clarkson’s contract. Clarkson is a chucker though. I don’t see the fit. Sexton can really shoot it and is tough. He would be my target if it were doable. But I’m not giving up what it would likely take.

Sexton is legit. Really matured after leaving Cleveland. Not really a backup though.
Honestly...in looking how Clarkson was going into full AI mode...I think he was auditioning for the bench microwave scorer for us..
I am not a hard pass..given he is on a rebuilding team and he has a shamrock green light given last night's performance....I am like what is the cost....a swap of Mitch for him is not doing it for me...I would need to draft assets coming back given I am trading a legit big...with injury questions for a small...but if Lavine is getting trade buzz ...then selling on Mitch for something decent with a bit of a sweetener upside is not out of the realm of doability..
Knowing Ainge...he is asking for a 1st....or two seconds and Kolek
Ok. We all know I love eFG.

Basically, 12 of our 14 players currently have a higher eFG than Clarkson. Let’s skip the rookies and whatnot, this still means I would rather have ANY player with regular minutes taking shots over Clarkson.
I interpret any support for Clarkson as a request to take worse shots. Or to reallocate shots from players who shoot well to Clarkson. And, for the luxury of that terrible trade, you also give up every advanced stat metric that favors the players we already have for a chucker that doesn’t chuck well.
You can say “Really, even Jericho Sims?” And I would say, at least Jericho makes the shots he takes. Payne, Shamet, McBride, Kolek… literally any player in front of Clarkson is better suited to takes shots than Clarkson.

That's gold comedy gold
I might prefer Kelly to Jordan. Her eFG might be higher.

Agreed..but I think Clarkson is a product of his environment in Utah.i think he comes here and does not become the modicum of efficiency but better than the chuckfest in Utah…
IMO the opinion you need either jumbo wing like Herb Jones or a scorer that can get bucket off the bench….i would rather have the former…but if the price is right…I would not mind it….
