Knicks · Should we freak out about Bridges? (page 14)

VDesai @ 4/20/2025 2:06 PM
Its not really about 3rd or 4th option - he started out well and then floated. He went like 25 or 30 floor minutes without scoring. Pistons are playing drop and his game is midrange. That shouldn't happen.

That said despite a couple bad possessions on Cade I thought he did a pretty good overall job defensively.

But thank god Cam went off bc without Deuce or Bridges hitting 3s it was a startling deficit we faced in that department.

GustavBahler @ 4/20/2025 2:14 PM
I’m curious as to Bridges numbers with and without Brunson on the court. It’s something that will have to be sorted out because it would be a waste of $$$ to pay Mikal, if we can’t get the kind of production we saw with Brunson out. I’d rather save the cap room. Bring back THJ as a 6th man.

The willingness to pay the picks for Bridges was the assumption of chemistry with Jalen and Josh. With DiVo that trip had ESP. Bridges seems to play transition well with Josh, but its been awkward with Jalen.

He's supposed to be the third option. That he's not is no one else's fault but his own
And with the rise of OG on offense why is it even defined as such?

Mikal is still a more skilled scorer than OG. He's just not asserting himself

Agree on all points. It was also a gift to Brunson for taking such a big discount to re-up.

I like the idea of Hardaway as a potential DiVo replacement. If Bridges is too expensive to bring off the bench. And isn’t working out as a starter. I hope the FO makes another run at Zion. I’ve read that the FO has made inquiries in the past, and there is a new regime in NO.

A starting lineup with Zion would be sick. Boston would be worried if Zion was healthy. Maybe the best starting unit in the league.

Zion?
Its a nice starphuck to think Zion been faking his injuries hoodwinking his team to get traded.
Funny Fact. Zion is 24. Kolek is same age.
new Regime? Its the owner who sets the mandate to pay Zion 130mm over the next three years or task Joe Dumars with making a deal. Its speed speculated they desire to move on from him.
What factual basis in any form or reality other that speaks not to that NOLA wants to trade him, but his mental health, physical health, and some physiology analysis that says his body can perform going forward?
Boston would be worried? Does that help us win games?

Do you have anything to add, or just sit back and wait to po po on other peoples thoughts? Is there’s anything you can add to this discussion? Just curious 🧐

Nothing wrong with adding Zion if he improves the team over Mikal. Mikal needs to come off the bench with hart (in my opinion) They would be a dynamic duo. I believe that’s a championship formula. Deuce is a catch and shoot 3 pt player. Mikal and JB operate in the same mid range area.

JB holds the ball a lot. Only certain players can excel with a PG like that. OR Bring in Jay Wright to get these boys playing better together. Create an offensive system where JB and Mikal can coexist. But Mikal is a player who gets out of rhythm fast when he’s not the focal point. I like THj I like grimes. Don’t forget Divo is itching to come back.

But whenever I question this roster Thibs magically comes up with a solution. Let’s see if Mikals buddy Cam injected some offense production into him on game 3. Sometimes being benched in crunch time for that long can send a huge message to step up or step aside.

Plenty wrong perhaps. I question his viability that his body can or cannot handle the what makes him an incredible athlete.

How many games missed, how many injuries has OG suffered? I don’t hear anyone complaining now. Looks like the medical team knows what they’re doing. If the FO can swing a trade that leaves us with a contender, then I’m all for it.

Look, im not the one expounding on doing such a trade. Maybe you can offer what OG did differently this year other than knicks hiring a dude from Dallas.

THis is not about Zions talent when on the court. Given that draft I don't blame Nola for drafting Zion but we all saw an incredible 18 year old do things other humans with that build did not do and tried to do a comparison to anyone before him. With that NBA fans saw him blow out of a sneaker in college and miss a bunch of games.
Over and over this guy gets hurt. I don't know his day to day routines and to what extent he might be indisciplined other than what I have read.

I do think Nola moves on. What has Zion done to elevate your confidence? Roster wise I don't think Nola needs another wing but they can always trade out later with him or Bridges. Forget the money, but how does Zion and OG fit together? Is Zion mature enough to handle a task master like Thibs who will demand much from him?

MOney? Zion for Bridges and Mitch work but we need some draft considerations in return in my opoinon. Zion is damaged goods.
Its an on paper starphuch concept that has many many questions/due diligence that need to be answered. Not to fans, but the Knick FO.

VDesai @ 4/21/2025 9:55 AM
Zion is tough- he's a bit of a similar situation to KP going to Boston. Can't be relied upon to play a full season. Clearly a wild card if he plays. Issue is he's less of an easy fit than KP was to a "5 out" team that wants to shoot 40 3's and needed size. Zion, for a contending team, is at best is playing a "wild card."

But I keep going back to this thought - losing to Boston and to a similar extent Cleveland is a net 3 pt volume/efficiency issue. I don't think adding Zion for Bridges helps us at all there.

who goes for Zion? Hart/Mitch/Pacome? OG's salary works. What trade scenario makes us better?

Here's some info on the Knicks medical staff. They came over from Dallas (Brunson pushed for this)

The injury risk is the main thing. Offensively, imagine replacing Josh with Zion. Zion has shown that he can initiate the offense. Yes he doesn't shoot threes well. But he is such a presence that teams would need to give him defensive attention anyway. The defensive would take a massive drop tho. Personally, I wouldn't feel comfortable giving up real assets to trade for him, but I could see the vision.

Would also introduce the usage problems Randle, Brunson, RJ had back into the equation. Too many cooks.

Bridges brought the energy that's been missing from his game. But those bricked 3s were a real gut punch.

I keep thinking about what the FO gave up for him, and how good they've been at drafting.

I think about the FO we got who’s not afraid to take a huge swing (hit or miss). They will have to stomach the fact that Mikals value is dropping. I hope it doesn’t take another pick to move him at this point. But an old past his prime KD would’ve done more.

JB and Thibs have to figure this offense out. Waiting for JB to save the day hurts us when we can’t get stops.
