Knicks · OT: I think Bluesky not yet ready to embed posts in a wide manor (page 1)

I may have this wrong but it looks like Bluesky took a curious route on how they work and it makes it very hard for forums and whatnot to automatically transform a URL like twitter or YouTube to something that is useful.

For the nerds:

https://bsky.app/profile/bsky.app/post/3l6oveex3ii2l is a normal bluesky link, where the user who posted the link is "bsky.app". Twitter equivalent: https://www.twitter.com/NBA_NewYork/status/1866834318791717087, the user profile name here is "NBA_NewYork".

Bluesky requires an additional lookup to transform the profile name (bsky.app in first example and NBA_NewYork in second) to some other unique identifier. That is stupid but I'm guessing it's because you can change your profile handle on Bluesky whereas once you pick it on Twitter/X, you can't change.

So. Stupid. And it's why you don't see BlueSky widely embedded on RealGM and other places and whatnot.

I'll keep an eye out unless some other nerd has better info than me.

I do like Bluesky- way better engagement and no trolls.

I'll look around. I've seen some workarounds but none are free. There's a Reddit Blue sky thread that's pretty active. Maybe you can get some ideas there?

Yeah, the community does a good job of identifying trolls. The sexbots have been active, but you can filter explicit content from your feed if you want. I don't mind the occasional seeing OnlyFans post. I just get annoyed by being constantly asked if I want to see their @$$ on Twitter. It's like 'Yeah, of course I do.' But there's a time and place for everything.

I haven’t noticed the sexbots lately. Must be the porn cookies on your machine attracting them!

How about this take: they fucked up and I’ll keep watching out 😉

If it were easy, all the forums would have it. Not sure why they didn’t anticipate this. A little mind boggling

They have an embed code to embed post. That is for HTML.

At least I don’t get warnings when I hit submit on their site
