Knicks · If you are OKC GM, what are your next moves? Cause they got all of them to pick from (page 1)

They got all the draft picks. They got young players they don't really need.

They got Caruso who is shooting 26% from downtown and he only plays more than 50 games leading up to contract years.

Chet missed his entire rookie season and then played all games last year. 10 games so far this year and I don't know when he is expected to return, so he in the Mitch injury territory.

They got one of the better defenses but their half court offense struggles when SGA is not getting all the calls.

They are officially in the cap management territory after being below it for many years and now have to deal with that.

OKC got this year and next to figure things out before all the salary kicks in.

What would you do as GM?

Team is soon to be at the 1 at apron when they extend their rookies and will have all these incoming picks they have to provide cap holds for and boy they will be trading picks for future pics. They may save pics for major deals but they will also have lots of drafted players they won't be able to extend or even play, so many teams will be able to benefit from their excess cast offs

You know a Mikal Bridges type of guy that can do everything on a given night but just fits in would be nice.

Fully healthy I think they have sufficient scorers with Shae/J-Will/Chet but another scorer/shooter that doesn’t muck anything up. Actually Durant return to OKC would be interesting.

Oh good timing

EwingsGlass @ 12/21/2024 8:43 AM
Let me just assume they have their 5 and they will be managing their bench and cap space around this 5 and their salary requirements.

SGA / JWilliams / Dortz / Holmgren / iHart

SGA is their stud. He gets his calls. Plays a solid all around game. Might pull an MVP some day.
Jalen Williams at the 2 is positional size advantage for a guy that can play 1-4.

Dortz is your primary wing defender and 3&D

Holmgren is your classic skinny tall guy with tremendous skills but health issues.

IHart is an advanced stat superstar but not skilled enough to be the primary player.

On paper, health aside, this works. Mismatches across the board. Depth, length and financial flexibility.

If I am OKC, I can use exceptions and free agency to keep the bench full.

I use draft picks to drive up the price competitively of any player that would “complete” another team. I mean, if I am the GM, maybe I’m looking to get more reliable at PF with a trade with Utah for Markannen. I’d at least keep that price up for anyone trying to get him.

If I see an upgrade at iHart, I probably pull that trigger. Maybe keep the price up on Sengun. Probably would have made a move on KAT if I were them, which makes NY’s timing that much better.

But, I’m a market maker as OKC GM. Using those assets to be in the conversations and keeping price up unless it suits me to let a player out of the division.

Maybe they have to do nothing. They have a top 5 team and could win this year and have enough assets where they could let guys go and have unlimited funnel of replacements for a decade. Core of SGA JWill and Chet stays in tact.

My question is, do you believe in Chet. The skills are there, but can he stay on the court?

Chandler @ 12/21/2024 10:22 AM
They should trade for Durant and then sit his ass on the bench

Hated Durant since his bitch move leaving okc to chase a ring.
