Knicks · Three Assists. (page 1)

KAT is averaging 3 APG this year. Why does it feel like more? Is it that he moves the ball but not necessary getting a direct assist, or is it just the nature of his passing that seems more visionary than the simple kick out?
For example, Melo averaged a little less than 3 APG and he seemed like a black hole? Was it just the amount of time he held the ball that makes it feel like a gulf of difference between the two players?

Probably a stickiness factor?

Seems like earlier in the season he was passing more. Not sure why we don't run as many backdoor plays as we used to. Now it's like KAT gets the ball, and immediately looks for cutters. The rest of the team starts looking down and going through the motions, noone really cuts with a purpose. Then KAT pump fakes and then drives.

Or the defense is adjusting and taking it away? You can run a play, but if the defense does cover cutter, they go to the next option. If that cutter is covered, it creates an opening for Kat to drive.
While we are not playing the cream of the NBA, we are winning.
Not sure what you mean about "of late". December player of the month and avg 3.3 assists in that span.

Knicks avg'd 2.4 last year with Jules avg 5.0 per. He did miss a chunk of the season.
This year we are avg. 2.9! thats a good trend.

While our guys are not cutting with KAT, seems Josh and Mikal do get a few nice feeds from each other as well as OG for layups.
That is very different from last year

His passes are memorable but not frequent. I don’t have an issue with how he is playing. He gets downhill in a hurry or gives up the ball, not necessarily for an assist.

Melo held the ball and average 3.5 secs per touch in 2013 according to NBA.com. KAT is at 2 secs this season according to the same metric.

The ball movement has improved overall since the start of the season. JB is passing more as well. Doesn’t feel like they’re is any real ball stopping going on. Everyone seems to be touching the rock.

The sad thing was that Melo waited until he was out of the league before he started working on a quicker release. So he could play again.

Ok, sure. Adjustment by defense is good. We can run a back screen for a cutter. Run a double screen....Take a page from Nuggets playbook. Defense adjusted so we will abandon KATs passing? Not smart. Need to take advantage of his strengths, need to have some plays for that. You can always fall back onto ISO
