Knicks · GameThread: Knicks host Detroit on a back to back, 730 MSG (page 5)

Josh left Beasley twice to pick up Tim. The 2nd one especially you gotta let Tim take that not Beasley
VDesai @ 1/13/2025 10:24 PM
Cade also got away with the shove on both plays. They ran the exact same shit twice and we ran the same stupid Scramble drill twice

Of course Beasley ate us —- it couldn’t have been more predictable.

Other easily predictable items I was waiting for and came true

- Wingstop non-existent
- Cade early foul trouble and was obviously going to torch us in 2nd half
- Kat bumped, pushed on ever drive with few calls ——- Kat breaths defensively and immediate foul call
- Brunson unable to guard a sloth
- OG should dribble with a fork and napkin tucked under his chin
- Kat would feign emergency room injury all night yet still continue to play
- Kat 1/2 second late to contest every single lay-up
- Kat at least 3 unconscionable fouls and 3 OMG unforced TO’s
- Deuce OVERRATED SO BADLY BY KNICK FANS

Ok enough with the positivity.

Back to OG — has Sims been working with him on his handle?

It wasn’t just Beasley.

First we’d leave THJ wide open at top of key —- he would hesitate but still had Beasley wide open in corner.

I’m mean where are the rotations????

Brunson doubled twice and got shoved off the play twice by Cade leaving Tim open in space so Hart rotates off Beasley and KAT doesnt come off Stewart fast enough

VDesai wrote:Towns fucking idiot

Kat won’t get key calls until he stops whining and acting like a complete Diva.

Starting to make me worry - just too casual defensively despite the league high rebounds.

That said our D was atrocious —— game reminded me of Dantoni era where zero stops are gotten

VDesai wrote:Beasley 13/18 from 3 at MSG this year

Add in Wiggins and Joe —- wonder what those 3 have shot against us this year. If it wasn’t Beasley it would be THJ.

If we got Beasley he’s shooting 18%

Left the corner guy to run off much longer/tougher shot

Yep and no fouls. Think Kat would be whistled on those push offs?

Don’t want to blame refs - WE SUCKED

VDesai @ 1/13/2025 10:44 PM
Josh should have stunted at Tim on the 2nd. Clock was winding and Tim didnt want that shot.

It was the same fucking play twice

The Knicks are pretenders. Plain and simple.
GustavBahler @ 1/14/2025 1:16 AM
Don’t see the same swagger from earlier in the season. Detroit’s 6th man put the game away, we had no answer.

That.... too casual .... when they put their head in it, they beat the team by 30.... other games they are just playing casually ......

We struggle against young, athletic teams that play hard. It doesn’t help that our guys are tired.

But I think your point is accurate - we’re just not that good.

Perfect example of Thibs defense. So scared of the drive you give 2 wide open 3 in 2025. The year where teams are probably the best at shooting them in the history of the game. Sorry but this 90s defense will not work in this new NBA. Teams are too good at hitting open shots now.

While I don't disagree with you, you got to give Beasley credit for hitting those shots. Yes, he was wide open both times. Is it Thibs design to leave Beasley wide open? Most certainly I can assure you that it's not. Josh decided to help off of Beasley, which isn't something that you do. No matter what Beasley was shooting that day. ( He was shooting fine btw) So a mistake by Hart, both times.

That's one way to look at it. The other way is that someone had to rotate to Hardaway, can't leave him open either. In that case we shouldn't have doubled to begin the defensive possession. We gambled on them not being able to pass it out of the double for an easy score, but that's exactly what they did.

Not sure it was“scared of the drive”. Maybe more like scared of man to man.
On both plays the wings (JB) jammed the high elbows with double teams instead of staying back and playing good man to man defense. Which resulted in a swing pass and rotations on defense. Which I have said for a while that KAT and JB are not good at. Maybe Thibs call or guys knowing JB cannot stop Beasley or Cade man to man. Just don’t see why they needed to panic with 46 left and leave the weak side wide open. Especially when it was a hot shooter.

My take this game though was that we missed way too many wide open threes. Especially in key moments . They didn’t. Also, when Pistons went to a zone, we showed once again that we don’t have the passing or strategy to attack it. How do you not put a big man in the middle? KAT is a great passer but they kept him by the three point stripe? Everyone knows passing to the middle is a great way to attack the zone. Instead it was JB high dribble offense? JB -12. Highest on tram I believe and still wants to force drives into a zone. (Which he hit a lot of tough shots) Instead of running an offense to attack it. Smh

Still Pistons have a lot of good young players. CAP of 126 and lots of picks. They just wanted it more last night and hit big shots. We didn’t.
Knicks know that EVERY team is going to want it more when playing in the Mecca. Need to match that energy an effort every night.

Hart over commits on Hardaway. Brunson recovers back to Hardaway so there was no need for Hart to overcommit. Hart should have stunted at Hardaway which would have caused Tim to hesitate and give Brunson time to recover and would have allowed Hart to recover to Beasley to make a much better contest if not stop him from shooting at all. I would much rather live with a Hardaway mid range floater with Brunson on his right hip, rather than a wide open 3 from Beasley.

Nalod @ 1/14/2025 8:57 AM
And if Beasly misses then Hart a hero.
Cade was killing us. He lit us up and credit Pistons for executing. We can second guess the bad result. Hardaway in the paint had only Towns in front of him and if he commits an easy dish to Steward under the basket. They went with the odds and lost.

Speaking of Cade, he really is one cool dude. I hated what he did but enjoyed his manor by which he was not overly animated as he took us apart.
Headset the stantion was cool. He did not protest every single time he thought he was fouled. Kat and Josh seem to distract themselves often after a shot. Jalen has tempered it back some.

VDesai @ 1/14/2025 8:58 AM
I feel like we are getting inconsistent defensive from OG. There's no doubt he's maybe the best defender in the NBA when he is focused, he's basically the Ed reed of the NBA. When he was defending for whole games last year we were unbeatable. He's had stretches this year, but there are lapses for full quarters. I don't know if he's fatigued or has nagging injuries, but something doesn't feel quite right with him. Some implications on twitter last night that Brunson was asking to switch and he looked him off. Hart was upset again after the game and now some are implying he might be referring to OG. All speculative, but he has been very on/off.

Knicks played defense in the 2nd quarter last night. McBride was on the floor. He barely saw the floor in the 2nd half. Maybe 2nd game of back to back with his hammy/knee was keeping him off the floor? They had good defensive intensity when the lineup was Payne-McBride-KAT-Hart and i believe Bridges.

Achiuwa has also been pretty bad...not making any impact. Playing too much drop instead of switching? He's a capable defender and we're not seeing it.

Nalod @ 1/14/2025 9:14 AM

As Clyde said, the shots were short and he alluded we might be tired on the back end of a back to back........
Seems like Precious really wants to score and is slow to make the reads on defense. This was his issue in Toronto.

OG I think is evolving a bit and hitting a wall at times. He got fouled, but he put a spin move on Stewart in the paint last night and got to the rim. I never saw him do that. They are also trying to get him to trap his man on a mismatch more. He is eager to pass the ball out and does that very well, but I think the team wants him to work his defender more.

he is a work horse and perhaps needs less minutes. Perhaps all these are adding up.
