Knicks · Looks like Thibs wants KAT at PF to start with Mitch (page 1)

KAT is unplayable at Center against the elite teams and I truly believe it's the main reason we got blown out.
HofstraBBall @ 2/25/2025 2:37 PM
But I thought I was crazy for saying this would happen?
I’ll wait for those that said there was no chance to explain?

Looks like Thibs agrees with the need to “upgrade at PF!”

Cav's came at us with Mobley and Allen and we out OG and Mitch. KAT has his limitations on defense.

Panos @ 2/25/2025 2:51 PM

Screw it, with Mitch at C, you're going to need to balance with more shooting. I'd move both Bridges and Hart to the bench and go:
JB
Deuce
OG
KAT
Mitch

Got a good mix of shooting and defense.

Bridges and OG can shoot.
They just have to be set up early by our floor general!

So we going to play drop with both our PF and our Center? This might not turn out well unless Mitch is faster since he lost a few pounds.

Any different than with Randle at the 4?

On defense my main problem with Randle was his off ball defense and his effort. Mitch was slower than Randle last season. We have not seen him this season so we don't know but I have my doubts. If Rookie year Mitch makes a comeback then everything is good. Mitch could run from the middle of the paint and block a 3 his rookie year.

DLeethal @ 2/25/2025 3:50 PM
I'm fairly certain Mitch is an elite drop defender.
DLeethal @ 2/25/2025 3:52 PM
I think Knicks have no choice but to work Mitch in as starting C. The rubber has met the road with the defense. Worst defensive team in the league in feb, worst guarding the 3, one of the worst guarding the paint etc. It's Mitch or bust for this year and they need to find the proper 4/5 next year. Josh Hart becomes Iggy off the bench for us.

Elite rim protector? yes. I don't specifically remember him being an elite drop defender last season. I could be wrong but I remember seeing a huge difference when iHart took his starting spot.

Well, JB needs to get set up too!

Makes a ton of sense to put Miles out there in the starting line up, and Bridges and Hart on the bench. I was going to say put Bridges on the bench, but apparently, you can’t have Hart out there with another non shooter like Prescious or MR.

Miles, Jalen, OG, Kat and Mitch might be the best combo to start. I wonder if Miles hasn’t played more minutes in games because he is injured, or if Thibs is being stubborn and stupid.

franco12 @ 2/25/2025 5:11 PM
Kinda a slap at KAT!

For one - does anyone think Mitch can play enough minutes to justify starting? He has been out so long and conditioning and durability are an issue.

I do think Thibs said it because before he got hurt Mitch was our starting center. He never was benched. I think its respect to him to refer to him as such

And maybe he is trying to light a fire under KAT.

I think we probably see less than 10 mpg per game of KAT/Mitch - practically speaking

There was a stat last year that offensive players shot one of the lowest percentages on floaters against Mitch. That doesn't mean much against true stretch 5s, but it makes life easier for OG and Bridges.

Thinking more about this, it was noted last season that KAT was good at throwing lobs to Gobert. KAT might activate Mitch on offense.

I'll take your word for it. I don't remember Mitch as well as iHart because he is constantly injured.

Mitch has taken load management to new levels and he’d better bring the fire during playoffs
