Knicks · GameThread: Late Late Laker game, 10pm TNT (page 9)

Defense was good today. 15 in the 4th was pathetic.

Never could make that dagger 3

GustavBahler @ 3/7/2025 1:03 AM
We lost the momentum and the big lead IMO when we stopped pushing the tempo. We had LA on their heels and frustrated.
ToddTT @ 3/7/2025 1:03 AM
I would trade KAT and Bridges for Julius. Maybe throw in Josh too.

That Randle team would not work either. The player that made it all work was iHart.

Terrible game. Terrible defense overall. We defend the 3 ball so poorly and give up WAY TOO many open 3's. Have to blame Thibs defense there. Same problem all year. He can't adapt. Terrible end of game offense call, blame Thibs for no set play-- let brunson go 1 on 5. Out hustled ALL game. Embarrassing. Too many turnovers. We can't take advantage of Towns. Run some plays to get Towns free on some set plays and Towns needs to learn what to do when double teamed. Bridges disappears during games. We had a big lead and just let it get away. Probably worst loss of the year.

No, seriously. I'll be asleep.

Slept right thru the game. After waking up for 230 am pp, checked the score. Hey we weren't blown out !!!

Just epic malpractice.

The NBA should never have approved that trade.

That Luka trade smells like an inside job. The Lakers were about to be trash for years with a small amount of draft picks. The Mavs did not even clean out the Lakers of their assets. So now they still have assets and are title contenders for years to come. KLebron just had his career extended a few years. The perfect trade for the Lakers. I love how they kept it a secret from even the Jazz because if they knew they would be helping to trade Luka to the Lakers they would have backed out. The Jazz just killed the value in the 2027 Lakers pick they own.

Im so tired of this. I love the Knicks and this is clearly the best team we’ve had in a while, but out limitations are so clear and aren’t changing any time soon that I’m having a hard time getting excited about the rest of the season. And this game, ughhh, it’s the same problems. And now Brunson will be out after a questionable play… Sighs…

It’s always like that with the Lakers. For me, this is probably the first time I’ve really considered quitting the NBA. Their track record is already crazy, but this move is as dirty and ridiculous as you’ll ever see one.

Bridges needs to really really step up..... he was the start of his team in Broklen, he is not doing anything. Josh was good first half taking shot, going to the basket, second half, he went back to not look at the basket. KAT..... I think mentally he is not with the team right now.
As for the bench..... damn, i miss last season when our bench used to kill the teams....
Clean @ 3/7/2025 4:35 AM
This is who Bridges is. The Nets fans on reddit was complaining about him not being able to create his own shot and they were right. Our offense does nothing to get him open so it is what it is. The FO has been good but they watched how teams gameplanned Brunson out of games in the last 2 playoffs and ignored the need for additional playmakers. Randle was flawed but he was a playmaker. He was injured the last 2 playoffs. We went all in on a team that only has 1 playmaker and a bunch of players that need playmakers to give them an advantage or open shots. We used rebounding and defense to cover for it in the past but with iHart gone that is no longer possible. Kolek might be a playmaker but we are about 3 years away from Thibs giving him a legit try.

If I was a Mavs fan I would never watch basketball again.

You mean to say it'll be exactly like the Fisher, Hornacek, Fizdale era?

As long as it isn’t a serious injury that will cause long term problems, I think this Brunson injury might be a blessing in disguise for a few reasons:

1)Too much Brunson. - I did not like the direction we were going in by over relying on JB to play hero ball. While his clutch heroics were amazing, it feels like our offense and team involvement have taken a step back. This leads me to my next point…

2)Player development - Let’s think about November 2023 before Mitch got hurt, iHart was basically considered a 15 minute backup, who many of us thought should be getting more minutes, then Mitch got hurt, and Thibs was forced to play him big starter minutes. This forced Thibs hand and allowed iHart the opportunity to show what he can do. I think this situation will force Kat and Bridges to figure it out. KAT has been needing to figure out how to pick his spots and the same could be said for Mikal. Mikal seems lost lately, having him more involved in the offense might be just what he needs. This might also force Thib’s hand to have Kolek be thrown into the deep end of the pool and show what he can do. Kolek is an even better passer/ facilitator than Brunson, it is time for him to get some minutes. There won’t be anymore standing around and watching Brunson for a while. Time for guys to step up to the plate.

3) The Standings - Everyone on this board knows that the number 3 spot is probably the worst spot for us outside of being #7 or #8. We are going to lose some games for sure with Brunson out, which I don’t mind if we are allowing guys to settle into roles and hopefully develop something more sustainable. Losing some games and falling to #4 wouldn’t be the worst thing to happen to us. We really need to take the next step and get to the ECF. Our best chance is definitely by going through Cleveland in the second round.

That thought crossed my mind as I was typing.

That futility broke my streak. I had gone about 20 years and only missed like three games.

Once we were established perennial losers, I think I may have gone full seasons without watching a single game.

KAT has been terrible, but I think him and Julius are a wash out. The biggest missing piece in that trade was DEVO. We miss his great shooting and more importantly his clutch shooting. Him and JB made a good tandem in the final minutes.

I agree that the 4th seed might not be all that bad. Pistons give us fits and we would line up against MIL or INDY. And avoiding Boston in round 3 is our best shot to get there, for sure.

DLeethal @ 3/7/2025 9:34 AM
If Brunson is out, Mikal needs to step up and become a 20ppg scorer for us. It could be a good opportunity for him to get his confidence back. Mikal/OG/KAT is still a play-in caliber team, we should be able to stay afloat to a reasonable degree.
