Knicks · Would you target Giannis if he is available and what are you giving up? (page 2)

I don’t see the Knicks getting Giannis without giving up Brunson. Impossible in my opinion. You lose 3 pt shooting with Giannis, but you get a ball dominant two way player that is a perennial MVP candidate.

I’m not saying I pull the trigger on this, but it’s the best case I can think of. Bucks have Lillard so it doesn’t make a tone of sense for them unless they can flip him for picks and youth.

We end up a bit weak at PG and I’m relying on a wildcard of Joku/Kolek to fill that void.

But, you get a pick and pop in Giannis/Kat that should make Bropez look silly.

We're not trading Brunson for Giannis. Brunson is about as untouchable a player as it gets in the NBA right now.
DLeethal @ 4/7/2025 10:01 AM
Brunson is Derek Jeter to this city. He's not going anywhere. It would be a deal centered around KAT and Bridges probably and it would require us being on a short list and MIL wanting to stay competitive with Dame.

I dunno. Not drunk. Maybe just stupid. But unemotional. You can say I have zero loyalty, but do you think the Knicks would turn down a trade centered on Brunson for Giannis? I'd have to listen.

At the end of the day, its a business. Yeah, we all love Brunson. But if it came down to it, you have a top 3 player and a top 10-15 player. The team is more built for Giannis than JB. I am not forcing a trade or anything, but if I am answering the question presented, would I make a trade for Giannis? I mean, why am I the dumb one for thinking its beneficial to the Knicks? Could you imagine wingstop with Bridges/OG/Giannis? The Pick and Pop featuring Giannis and KAT with both Bridges and OG hanging in the corners?

I don't think this trade ever happens, no. But if it were plausible, I think the Knicks would have to listen and I do think its the kind of move that would take them over the top as favorites.

its not just the players it's their roles. Brunson is a floor general and a true leader of men. We have not had that since... I dont even know... Derrick Harper? Brunson is one of, if not THE clutch players in the game. His play after losses tells you everything you need to know. Giannis is 100% built on speed/size/power and when he starts breaking and missing games it's over. Brunson has the kind of game that's going to keep him in the league until he's 40

Reasonable argument. Perhaps the best that could be made. I think the best argument in favor has to be the two way nature of Giannis. He is a perennial MVP candidate and DPOY candidate. Brunson manages more assists. Less points on lower “usage” but GA gets to the line more (and shoots worse while there). I think the average GM would take GA over JB.

I credit the opinion on this board to sentimentality, but the injury argument is certainly well founded. GA is less healthy than JB and I don’t expect that to change. That said, I’m not sure that Brunson’s bowling ball on offense and bowling pin on defense dynamic lends itself to staying healthy. But he certainly has a skill game that is more based on footwork than athleticism and that should last longer than most.

I love JB’s personality and kind of think GA is a bit of a primadonna. So, there’s that. But I think the two way nature of GA’s game is probably the predominant factor in my argument. You take a guy that you are covering for on D and replace him with a guy that can defend the best player on the opposing team - but doesn’t have to.

nycericanguy @ 4/7/2025 5:17 PM
knicks would never trade JB, but KAT & OG or Mikal could be an interesting package for MIL. Especially the way OG has raised his value.
jskinny35 @ 4/7/2025 5:31 PM
For me it would only make sense to view Giannis as an upgrade to KAT. Yes outside shooting would be worse but the defense, tougness, intangibles and versatility would more than make up for KAT's proficiency from outside. Brunson's life would be much easier as you can give the ball to Giannis and also count on him helping him defensively. We would really need to sign another outside threat as our 5 and out offense would have to shift significantly...but our defense would be back!
ramtour420 @ 4/8/2025 1:09 PM
We have probably the best potential offensive player in the league in KAT. There are only a few guys that are ahead of him as far as skill. But that's because KATs only utilized for his 3 point shooting and the driving opportunity that it creates. Zero plays from the playbook are required as it's all ISO. KAT in a PnR?You know the proper one like the Suns had with Nash or Utah had with Stockton .Would average +10 more points per game, likely leading the league. He is also he best potential passing big man or at least as good as Jokic. Again, he would have to be put in a system that runs plays for that. Something like the King's had with Divac. Or Blazers with Sabonis. The fact that we are misusing him under Thibs is a freaking murder, it's a crime, a felony.
ramtour420 @ 4/8/2025 1:12 PM
To trade KAT for GA. . . Then they will get a coach that will run plays for him and will have a big to play Center. I hope Mitch can start with KAT for us
