This stuff really may be the HUGE key ---- particularly in Indy we have to somehow force Hali side/side, east/west and to his left if at possible. I don't like relying on Mikal as a single defender on him (I'd try Wright full court and give OG some key minutes against him with Kat on Siakim.

OG help defense is a menace though as long as he doesn't give up easy kick out 3s.

The one guy I'm very wary of now - well 2. Mathurin thinks he's great all of a sudden but really worried about Nembhart having some type of lucky/breakout game. He's been so quiet.

It's even better than I thought - GREAT ENERGY.

This should do it!

Just look at those Martin - things of beauty.

The ball pressure and the slightly bigger size/length from Shamet/Wright have made a difference all over and to a degree on slowing TJ.

Deuce see's TJ check in and melts like Wicked Witch of the West

I don't know man - he looks awfully good and part of his game is his natural strength. I think we all see it - he is just undisciplined mentally and undisciplined at an ELITE level .

Right now he's avg. 25/12 on 52/42/80 splits.

He's had games of 35/12, 20/7, 24/15, 24/12 and 24/13 with those highly efficient shooting #s.

Last night he outscored and out rebounded the entire Pacer's frontline 24/13 to Turner/Siakim/Nesmith 23/10.

Kat played 36 minutes - the 3 Pacers played 74 minutes.

Outside of all the dumb fouls and decisions he's playing at an all-na level -- I'd say his weight is probably ok right now.

I dont think losing 10 lbs takes away his strength. and teams always have to respect his 3 which is why he is able to drive so much.

Scoring is never an issue with KAT. But he's listed at 248 and really looks more like 260 and that's just alot of weight and size to be running around with. especially playing PF.

You may be right - I always felt best playing at lowest weight I could get to without feeling weak.

You feel quicker but just saying he's playing really well and even if he's 260 he's driving right by SF/PF/C on way to hoop.

Forgot to mention - though that was Brunson's best defense of the playoffs.

This game he hedged out and actually was a presence vs last game where he was trying to get out of the action and actually picking Mikal on some plays

He also held up in some 1 v 1 spots.

I agree re mathurin. He is talented but also a bit kooky.

Nembhard hurts you if you forget about him or don’t treat him seriously

We should also remember nesmith. Not sure what’s up. He may be hurt. He only played like 15 last night and I don’t recall any moment in particular which lead to his benching

Mathurin playing well but also getting a Shai level whistle. If he goes to the basket he's getting a whistle every time. Getting more calls than KAT and Brunson which is super annoying. He has 20 FT attempts in the last 2 games....only 37 minutes!!! That's insane!

I really thought going in we could slow it down, beat them up and control it KAT/Brunson being too much for them. Maybe we still can

Shamet is a guy I was high on, similar career trajectory to DDV. Thought he'd get much more of a chance here but then the injury happened. But maybe he's a guy that can have a bigger role for us going forward.

Crazy thought but would anyone trade Deuce for DDV back? MIN needs a younger PG, and a guy like Deuce actually fits with ANT more than DDV in the starting backcourt because he can defend, shoot and still let Ant run the offense mostly.

VDesai @ 5/30/2025 4:26 PM
Is Shamet's defensive performance repeatable? I know he always gives a decent effort, but he's usually overwhelmed because of size. The way he defended last night was incredibly impressive...even against Siakam
VDesai @ 5/30/2025 4:34 PM
Brunson is averaging 33ppg on 51.4%/36.1%/93.3% for the series...

Yeah Pacers don’t have a SF that’s big, Shamet can hold his own against 6’5 to 6’6 guys

IMO he has done the best job on TJ. For whatever reason TJ gives Deuce problems. I would have thought Deuce would shut him down but not so, or at least not consistently

Shamet is like a spider monkey out there making every second count!

he was getting scored on at will and Im sure that's what got him dropped from the rotation. It was bad. I thought he was playing hard and challenging shots but he was just getting scored on so much.

Last night he and Mitch were playing defense like it was the last possession of the game and they were up 1... like the whole time they were out there. It was wild. Had not seen that from Shamet. Love it.

Refs such tools.

The good part is he isn't having to guard really physical players in Hali, Nembhart and TJ -- plus other guys like Nesmith/Turner prefer to stay outside most of time.

He can hold up for 15 minutes.

Deuce is a basket case against TJ -- it's almost like TJ makes a 6" head fake to left and Deuce overreacts jumping 2 feet and TJ is gone the other way. Shamet/Wright doing a little better job thus far of conceding space, staying disciplined and using length when TJ shoots.

Hopefully this continues and refs don't insert themselves to our detriment.
