Michael Sweetny? that was the era of fat guys in NBA. It was a different era. It ended. He was. highly skilled center from Georgetown who we drafted 9th 22. years ago.

Eddy Curry had braids I believe. Perhaps when we recoil over "Five picks" for Mikal but consider that two will go out this year and we just made ECF's, and the other three jury out as to their value. Then consider Isiah trading what became Joakim Noah and Lamarcus Aldridge. Noah as a young player was awesome in that era. We traded Two pics that became Allstars For eddy curry who bulls had offered to retire due to his heart issue later determined to be his diet supplements as root cause.

Media keeps reminding us "five picks" for Mikal but we had a good year and that counts for something. Those picks this year are Detroit pick at 17th, and ours at 26th. While not efficient Mikal did contribute to our win total and playoff success this year.

If a choice is between Shamet or Wright who you take ?
Alpha1971 @ 6/7/2025 1:49 PM
For second round this year grab a shooter to replace Shamet ? Or a big to replace Precious. But play Dadiet and Beauchamp.

He was the 42nd pick. Second round picks, especial a mid selection really a "Wiff". It was a stretch. The kid had an elite shooting stroke and was literally 18 when we drafted him. Perhaps he'd outgrow his baby fat?
He is not yet 22.
He avg just shy of 20 pts in GLeague this year and had some big games. 37% from 3pt. At 6-5 good size for 2 guard. Maybe he makes it to the show?

For the second round pick, especially at 50, you take the prospect with the most upside. I'd prefer a wing, but it's pretty much out of their control that far down.

I remember it was seen as a but of a stretch when the pick was made. But yeah, the idea was he could develop into a 3&D type with some playmaking chops. But let's be real. The kid was not in NBA conditioning and never seemed to realize how quickly the clock was ticking. He looks in better shape now, so maybe there's still a window for him. Still looks to slow in my opinion.

so does JB at times. Im not advocating or defending. My point is mid seconds are a gamble. Given his age at the time and good size perhaps he'd develop. As said, he as not in shape or could not at the time.
Im her to just say its easy to "Wiff" on mid seconds. Hey, sometimes you take a euro and they never even come over! This kid is still like two years younger than Kolek.

Whiff is a relative term. Leon Rose and Co have used the second round really well. Except for Keels who never looked prospect ready, amongst second round types. But I think 50 will yield a decent player to take a investment in.

The detroit pick at 17 went in the KAT deal. The bridges picks are 19 (bucks) and 26. We would have had 3 picks in this first round, but obviously worth moving for the ECF appearance and building from there.

With the salary cap as it is would the Knicks have even used three picks. OKC is interesting as they will soon have to extend their inexpensive young players to some real contracts soon. Their cap situation will become a real issue and with all their pics in the future they may have to begin putting on their future picks and even start trading down to lower guaranteed rookie contracts. Their picks might become a commodity that's on sale for a discount.

The cap is designed to prevent building super teams, so they may have to eventually make choices on their players and use the picks to keep adding backup roster talent. Probably the only longterm players there are SGA and Jwill. The rest are up in the air. Not even Chet is a guarantee to stay if they have to pay him the big contract. Right now they aren’t even trusting him to play major minutes against the Pacers.

surplus talent spill over to other teams in need or traded for currency (picks). The area of parity is how teams can rebuild in a few years. Injuries though are biggest issue when a major max salary becomes unplayable and sits on the books. Teams int he middle of the pack can ramp up or drop down reboot reboot rather then rebuild.
Thunder can aggregate a few contracts and rather than pay Chet package him and get a major star in return if so desired. I suspect they could get Giannis very easy if the wanted to.

This kid isn't ready but he's 19 with all the physical tools. It wouldn't surprise if he went undrafted, honestly. But he could be a nice flyer.

BigDaddyG @ 6/10/2025 2:38 PM
Michael Ruzic is another intriguing Euro who could be in our range. Good feel and nice touch. Not sure if he'll ever develop enough physically to be an NBA big.

Andrews baby brother. I know some of you like Kolek, but this guy might be a better prospect at the same stage. Plus, it would continue the "brother" franchise program we have going with Indiana.

Watched most of it, not many passing highlights. I guess what surprises me about the willingness to trade Kolek is that he showed elite passing ability, in spite of playing some of the fewest minutes in the league for a rook, relative to where he was drafted. Was Kolek the worst prospect in the league?

As a rookie to have the most efficient passing game over a two game stretch in NBA history. In spite of being at the bottom of rookie minutes is impressive. Did it twice which showed it wasnt a fluke.

If the FO has some big deal in mind(a good one) and wants to include Kolek because he came back and didnt show enough improvement with shooting and D. That I could understand.

Regardless of his age, rookies who can pass like that arent seen often. And the chance of drafting a player who can pass like that even more remote. So I hope he gets a chance to show what he worked on over the summer.

Dont want to read about fans from other teams laughing how we gave up Kolek for a bag of chips. Wouldnt call this season a legit opportunity for any of the rooks.

Passing highlights at 50 second mark. I'm not saying if Kolek has "it" or not. I like his passing but I'm concerned with the hesitancy he had attacking the rim during his late season stint. I hope Kolek shows out. It would alleviate some roster concerns.but this front office is pushing all it's chips in and anyone who thought they it did a bad job with the young players before is going to be in for a shock moving forward.
