We arent that far removed from last season, and our rooks got the fewest minutes in the league. Its a bit too optimistic to expect them to level up so soon. They need minutes.

C'mon, they practiced and played with the team all year. There should be noticible improvement. Stop making excuses for them.

Please don’t show Kolek’s combined stats for the first 2 games.

He’s been so bad maybe this is a complete anomaly. He went all last summer league and some pt during regular season ALWAYS looking under control but now he can barely complete a pass to his own team.

Tend to think this is an adjustment to a new system and maybe asking Kolek to move the ball more quickly vs pounding rock.

McCuller good news is he can actually 1) dribble and 2) get to the rim off the dribble —— BE STILL MY HEART.

Now if McCuller can stop setting illegal screens on dribble hand-offs he might not foul out in 5 minutes.

It should look a lot better than it has. But our main point of interest are mostly 2nd round picks and a late first taken with the idea that he was a stash player for the long term. 3 to 4 years is realistic developmental window before they are expected to be guys you can reliably plug into a rotation. And that's if they are NBA material.

In the meantime our 9 man rotation is pretty much set for the year barring injuries. Brunson(PG), Mikal(G/F), OG(F), Towns(PF/C), Mitch(C), Hart(G/F), Deuce(G), Clarkson(G), Yabu(PF/C).

Mitch/Towns/Yabu
Towns/Yabu/OG
OG/Hart/Mikal
Mikal/Deuce/Clarkson
Brunson/Clarkson/Deuce

It’s a fact. The bench played fewer minutes than any other team. But you expect them to show up a few weeks after the season is over like it never happened. Practicing is a completely different animal than actual NBA minutes. You should know that by now.

Of course I do but also being around the team, practicing with the team and playing many games in the NBA we all would expect a much better showing, esp Kolek, but also Hukporti than the players have shown so far. Sorry but you can't whitewash how bad Kolek has been this summer.

Yep. He should be able to bring the ball up against pressure and have a TO/Assist ratio better than 1. Those are things intrinsic to being a pass first PG. The shooting doesn't bother me as much. There are plenty of PGs who shot like crap in SL and went on to have stellar NBA careers. Brunson Rose and Trae Young come to mind. But Kolek isn't even doing a good job of setting up his teammates. That was supposedly his strength. And I'm not going to even talk about his defense.

Perhaps Brown has influence on the pace and this is not in Kolek's wheelhouse at the moment?
By that, Brown is the new coach and has dictated a fast pace he wanted the summer league guys to play under.
Im not saying Kolek is toast or had sufficient time to adapt. That will come by season opener.
He obviously think JB can play this way. Make the fast decision.
Running it back, Knicks were a very good offensive team last year. Brown is taking it to another level?

I forgot. Thibs also ruined Trevor Keels by making him fat and Grimes by making him a pussy.

Missed most of the first of the first 3 quarters. Kolek has 23 pts through 3? Did he steal someone's bag?

Sounds like Kolek knew that his passing alone wasnt going to get him by anymore. Looking forward to the recap clips Todd found

Im not sure if he’s doing better or Brooklyn is really bad. Probably a little of both plus Brooklyn played yesterday and is resting some players

Either way he needed this game in the worst way for confidence.

Kolek made 5 3’s in 1st half and had 23 —- not going to knock that aspect BUT I’m just not impressed with him to any significant degree.

In these 3 games he has really struggled to just handle pressure and he barely has touched the paint even with high screen action.

He’s constantly dragging a defender around on his back and his passing has been careless at best.

If he was jacking the shots he hit today and missing them off the bench in regular season we’d all be roasting him. He looks 5’7” out there and many of his release passes he has to 1 arm fling up into the air to get it by/over the defender.

Tough comparison here but thinking of watching smaller/similar stature PGs like Nash/Stockton and can’t recall those guys having to make so many sloppy passes just to beat coverage. Won’t mention his D and continued piss poor decision making on look ahead passes.

I came into today mostly thinking Kolek was just having a tough adjustment to new scheme and crappy teammates but ultimately I’m just unimpressed.
