Mikal getting the bag
VDesai @ 7/31/2025 6:08 PM
Good deal for us. Less than max, less than OG and a little less than Jalen. Will help out apron situation I think.
BigDaddyG @ 7/31/2025 6:09 PM
I feel OK with this deal and I hope it endears Mikal to the fan base.
ToddTT @ 7/31/2025 6:16 PM
I wonder how many teams are envious of this deal.
fishmike @ 7/31/2025 6:26 PM
gives us a 3 year window with a core of Brunson/Bridges/OG/Josh/KAT.

I hope Mitch's injury history leads to a cheap resign and we get him back for 3-4 years as well. 50ish games a year and able to play in the playoffs is 100% worth bringing him back. Last year's playoffs really showed his value.

Feels like a lot, but some additional context.

yeah "feels" like a lot but in NBA context its a good deal. I thought he really showed up in the playoffs and did things you need to win. He had many big 4th qtrs when nothing was doing. Huge defensive plays in regular season and playoffs. Good crunchtime player. Always available... this is a good lock up IMO
SergioNYK @ 7/31/2025 6:38 PM
Mikal is a good player who had some iconic moments in the playoffs but his defense overall was a little disappointing and he disappeared too much on offense. Hopefully he's more confident and comfortable in year two. I'd really like to see him get back to being a DPY candidate.

5 years 300 million for a guy that avoids contact. Glad we won’t be part of that.

Nova boys doing right by us
EwingsGlass @ 7/31/2025 7:35 PM
Love it. This will be a bargain across the contract term. Let’s go get that chip.
Swishfm3 @ 7/31/2025 9:12 PM
Glad he's coming back. Always felt he was mismanaged by Thibs. Hopefully Brown will be able to utilize him better
Philc1 @ 7/31/2025 9:42 PM
Good move. Locks in 3 year window for a championship

I think this all is playing out nicely.
Unless there was a Giannis trade of some magnitude which was always going to be a low probablity of knicks fulfilling the issue was going to be price. We all know he did not see eye to eye with Thibs and that was taken care of right away.
Perhaps MIkal wanted to see who the next coach was and the vision for him and the team. As good as last season was it was obvious that 1 + 1=2 given the talent we had and did succeed to the ECF'S!

But 1+1 needs to equal 3 and that short answer to why Thibs was not retained. Bridges play was not maximized. We saw the symptoms. Was it due to minutes? Schemmatics? Core philosopy? We can guess.

I saw the "he could have gotten 5 years and........." But not if he is injured or does not really elevate his stats. This team is stacked and that is really not going to happen. HE did that on a shitty Nets team. For that matter so has Cam Thomas to a lessor extent! If his goal is total money extraction and willing to take the risk of injury then he could play it out and likely be traded. I think there was a hand shake deal when he was traded here of some sorts and everyone played nice.

In annual polls Thibs had his detractors. Not every player loved him.

Who cares what they think while they play golf next spring and we are in the Eastern Conference Finals again

NBA finals also works. Somehow NBA champs sounds even better lol

Probably part of the reason why they were so aggressive in bringing in Mikal. Feeling that he would be someone willing to be a team player and take less with the Nova connection. He was around all summer league also with the prospects. Seems to have bought in to the mentor role sticking up for and pushing for the bench players to get more burn. Granted he should have kept that in house and behind close doors. Wasn't feeling that.

Now we just need to figure out how to get Donte back.
