Knicks · The Giannis thing won't go away..... (page 1)

Its good click bait in blog space.
That Mikal is often mentioned is ammuisng and its all pushed out becuase he can't be traded for 6mos.
If the idea is to pair Giannis with Kat, the in my mind OG is the big salary that moves.
Likley Mitch as well along with some draft capital/yoot. If Dadiet shows promise he can be considered a lottery or near type prospect given his age.
Perhsps if Knicks don't show well prior to the trade deadline you do this?

It was never a thing

Until we sign Thanasis to a vet min, I'll remain skeptical that there's any real legs to this story.

BUT I think you'd have to move KAT in a move like this. Numbers are very close, and then add on the extras. At least Milwaukee can claim they got a star in return instead of top tier support like OG or Mikal.

Nalod @ 8/7/2025 11:49 AM
Maybe make Thanasis an assistant coach? LOL.........
I agree thee are no legs to this but it keeps going because knick fans love this shit!
BKN can make a big asset haul of picks and some yoot but MIlwaukee then in full rebuild which can be a bad place to be for a small market team.

What they are doing to Giannis is wrong. No upgrades since the championship. They gave him Doc Rivers and Kuzma.

I think he ends up in Toronto somehow.

They gave him Lillard. They tried. It did not work. It was not a chip lock but if other things worked out they were good and in the mix.
He can ask out and it can be orchestrated so nobody looks like the bad guy.
Question is what can they get in return that keeps them relevant and picks to build back on at the same time.
Giannis home life in Milwaukee? Might be pretty good. Not every great player gets to demand winning environment. where can he go where he can win right away wihtout a team being stripped? His contract is a mirror of KAT so there is that. But they will want more. How much more?
While he is a better player than KAT, they are very different.
Also doe he want to live in NY? Knicks? Media crush? family life?

VDesai @ 8/7/2025 3:50 PM
Slow time of year.

Everyone knows Giannis is the biggest superstar name that theoretically could ask out that would have an interest in NY. Nothing is imminent or been any reason to take it seriously, but he is the no.1 Big Fish and no one else is close. That's why you'll see people talk about him until his status totally changes or he gets too old to be elite tier.

EwingsGlass @ 8/7/2025 7:32 PM
It makes no sense. I’d never pair Brunson with Giannis and I wouldn’t trade him for Giannis.

I am totally fine running it back with our dudes. Kat showed me an impresive grit in last years playoffs. Bit less whining about calls and came up big at times with a needed bucket. Was fearless from long range and held up to potential his all nba status. Tighten up that defense a bit and lets get a ring. He is not Jokic or Embiid (Healthy) but he showed up.
Mikal pushed back on Thibs on the court and was cool about it. If it needed to be done, it was cool. Does he disappear on offense? not go to the rim enough? Did his coach not utilize him properly?
If Thibs did not coach up Mikal, he did get OG to his best pro season. Kid is a pleasure to watch especially on defense. Dig the level emotionality and the subtle work in the passing lanes, until he strips the ball and his opponents soul on the court. Not a natural fast step on offense but he improved getting to the rim and using his power. not afraid to get his shot blocked. Deadly from the corner 3! A modern Dave Debuschere! For that matter Mikal might be a modern Bill Bradley?

Giannis is a MIlwaukee Buck with a chip. We have our guys and while I won't deny his exreme talant or that he would not be worthy of pursuing, Im just not into breaking up this team for it. Im sure Giannis would endear himself Knick fans in time expecially if we win a chip but there is a nice story with KAT brewing. In 10 seasons he had had 3 off ones. Injury, Covid and losing his mom as he did was pretty awful.
His stat lines are an interesting read....

Giannis will have leverage next offseason to force a trade to his liking, he is signed for 2025-26, 2026-27 and then a player option for 2027-28. It seems like that's when the Milwaukee front office will have to make a long term decision.

Seems like the Knicks gave themselves a sliver of an option to make a Giannis trade before this coming deadline too. Knicks got options to play it out or be in the Giannis trade game if they want.

I'm curious... why wouldn't you pair Brunson with Giannis?

His deal is same as KAT's. That player option is for 62mil that year. The leverage is about opting out and being free at age 32 or 33. Im thinking Mil is a bit landlocked using draft capital for Lillard with a bit of swaps. Giannis seems to be doing everything correctly as is Milwaukee. They made a very reasonable effort getting Lillard and I expect both to continue to be graceful in how they would execute a divorce is so determined.
Bucks need draft capital and can't let him walk, but also undestands an "Embiid" scenario could arise where you have a big contract with a chronic condition and no one is to blame.
