+1. And I love the guy. He was my man when he was with us. Our relationship was mutually beneficial relationship. We signed him ( props) he developed. We traded him into a perfect situation. Did any of you think we would have Towns when we drafted KP? Yet, here we are

I was surprised Randle got extended a year early right after a historically bad playoff performance against ATL.

But good FO's with a long-term plan are managing assets and they eventually flipped that asset into KAT which was pretty great.

KAT can be a dum-dum sometimes, but I've never felt he's given up on the team during a game like I did with Randle. And I feel KAT is ultimately more coachable than Randle and in general a better locker room guy, all things that matter to me.

it took a while for me have faith in this FO again after they started off by drafting Obi... because to me it was literally ANYONE but Obi.

You had Maxey, Cole, Hali, Vassell and Deni as options, on a team that had a PF yet desperately needed a playmaker/PG. you could have literally had a monkey pick a name out of a hat and 80% chance they would have done better. obi never made any sense and I'll die on that hill.

Again, all good hindsight and recall that was the year covid hit. It stopped the March Maddness tournament. The draft was in October and I think no teams had a chance to do private workouts. That draft was full of mistakes by other teams as well. IQ was a great pick by us which sort of made amends for OBI? We took the National player of the year who had some crazy athletic ability. Remember we drafted him after an ok first year by jules. Perhaps we thought Jules would not stick and OBI would ascend bigly.

it definitely wasnt in hindsight for alot of people. I don't think i've ever been so upset by a draft pick in my Knick lifetime. The Knox pick for instance ended up being awful, but at the time you could see the logic... even the same with the Frank pick. But the Obi pick just seemed illogical.

Obi was older, played in a very weak division, couldn't defend or space the floor. and we had just signed Randle and badly needed a PG. Hali was the obvious pick at the time, very surprising we passed on not only Hali, but all the other PG's/playmakers.

I get it. My take was it was the "Safe" pick? Obi sort of never hit the ceiling. Solid contemparary role player. Randle was a 2 year contract and perhaps the hope was OBI would exceed him. It was that very season Randle became an allstar. Maybe at that moment we made the pick Randle did not factor in long term?

Also the prevailing thought was Leon, tight with Embiid would make a play for him!
By seasons end, Thibs was COY, knicks exceed expectations and win 50 games. Jules becomes an allstar!!!!

Your not wrong BtW. IM just looking at context at the time decisions were made. If you were screaming to not take OBI and Hali or Maxy instead kudos to you! Good call.

The draft was crazy in hindsight! It occured two weeks before the season started.
