Those are the options. They are very black and white.
And no one is paying him that much money. Not even close. His success is very clearly tied to his role on the Knicks. He is not some elite player that teams are going to try and overpay.

I did a breakdown of the money on the draft thread, but in short they can stay under easily if they want to bring back shamet and Diawara but let Mitch walk. It really comes down to where they are at with Mitch.

WTF happend to his pinkie BTW? We read of his "mental health" and now this all he not talking to media about? That break I read. is called "Boxers" type break so he might have hit somehing in anger? Like his truck? A wall? He caving in do to some domestic issue with his marriage? Its none of our business but it might speak to signing someone to a contract? I love the guy but is a business also.
Maybe Leon has designs to bring back iHart? That team option at 28mil has a lot of factors behind it. Im not really following Thunder other than thats a big number for him and Chet shit the bed vs. Wemby/Spurs. Fans react without patience so who knows what his value or if they planning to do anything there. They won 64 games this year. Shit happens in playoffs. Chet just turned 24 last month and that big contract hits next season. Jaylin Williams on a nice contract for the next 2 years at under 8mm per.
They could give ihart a longer smaller per annual deal vs. 28mm.
Who might be on Leons radar? We are just left to enjoy the finals and see what happens and how it happens.

Yes we can absolutely keep him if we want. I think he’s earned money but I don’t believe teams will offer him anywhere near MLE money. Teams are realistic about him being a longtime journeyman who is just fitting a specific role perfectly. I think this run has mainly just gotten him out of the year-to-year minimum contract stuff and will get him a real contract.
Duncan Robinson made 15+ annually with both the Heat and Pistons.
I don't think its to far fetch to believe that there may be a few teams/GMs out there, that may view him in the same caliber.

Are there reports of Dolan preparing to go over the apron? genuinely asking. Enjoying watching both Mitch and Shamet in Knicks jersey but. for different reasons, I'm ok to watching them both walk or traded.

Duncan? You have a point! The stats are not far off but He plays more games than does Landry. Duncan 41% from three vs. Landry 39%. Only thing I can think of is Duncan getting that Kyle Korver money becuase at 6-8 he does that Bill Bradley running thing to get open and got that money catch and shoot that is a rare skill set. I don't have those stats but Landry is improving there?
Landry numbers are not as good as Duncan's, and perhaps its a head scracher why Landry has been disregarded if he is that good and had to fight to stay on rosters?

Not a bad comparison in terms of impact, but Robinson has been a starter most of his career, Shamet never has. But you never know.

Jerome James is a good comp and did make me think until I thought about who actually gave him that contract. Isiah lord Thomas.
To his credit Isiah was an enigma. did some good draft picking. but he also did some insanly stupid things to counter.
Funny thing......if we win this whole thing to repeat we still need to get better and the question becomes is it worth it? Two in a row or drop back a bit and retool? Its not easy to repeat and teams cannot sustain the contracts espeially as the team ages.
Thats another question for another day. But don't think Knicks FO is not thinking it as the draft, Free agency comes up fast when finals is over. If your picking confetting out of your hair or licking ones wounds is a big factor in what gets done and how!

Very unique situation for a young starting center. I see what you’re saying but totally different level of player and role. If there’s a team out there who is ready to make a jump like okc and has money to spend and thinks Shamet is the missing piece as a starting SG, that would be similar. I would be shocked if that’s the case.
