Knicks · Now That Everything Is Free In NYC, Should I Move Back? (page 2)

You’re a dick
I’m a detective?
Things cost less? Less than Walmart? Who pays for the difference? Taxes. If JP Morgan can't keep employees because they can't afford to live in NYC, then they either move or pay more.
Taxing the rich is class warfare and Mandami got his votes on that. That Silwa stayed in got him elected.
Not thats teh story, how Mandami gets this to work is a whole different story. He won't be able to bring radical change and like Obama who excited the masses and could not deliver on that level, so too will Mandami likely find resistance.
The gray areas of social assistance is already in place but the illiterate right thinks its dragging the country down. Its rooted in hate.
Medicare for all. Hilary tried to do it 20 years ago. We are one dumb country. We love Medicare but hate social singer payser. Fact is you buy a suppliment so those that can and want more pay for it. Countries/sociieties that provide healthcare thru tax revenue has less drug abuse issues and children do better. One can point to its deficiencies which is a very popular thing to do as the illiterate digest that and say its bad, but fact is its far better than nothing.
Nobody wants to pay taxes or pay for things that help socities thrive. We are tribal, we are the land of the free and tend to think of self reliance. We are a naiton of immigrants and once we have our slice we turn our backs on others.
Trump was not inflicted on us,, we the people created this with the believe we are entitled. Mandami is a message. Not a warning. Not yet. Things can get worse.

The govt run grocery store idea is very realistic, practical and already exists throughout the country and really world since DECA operates in almost all 50 states, Puerto Rico as well as Germany and Japan.
The “difference” you are hysterical about that supposedly is going to be covered by taxes. You are looking at the wrong “difference.” The real difference is in the markup on products charged by private retailers.
That’s why of all of Mamdani’s policy proposals this is the one republicans are freaking out about the most because it’s the most affordable and easy to implement. I don’t think universal pre-K is happening. Public busses is possible since bussing is the cheapest for of mass transit but I still give that 50/50.
The purpose of the commisaries, the funding mechanisms, the real estate they occupy, the demographics of coverage and density, and a host of details vs. other forms of potential subsidiaries no doubt stretch your limits.
BTW? Why are subways not included?
Are there not public child care institutions already?
I agree most of this won't happen and some of this can be pushed to by major employers. How? If they provide some of these services to lower salaried or hourly workers they won't be subject to tax increases? The administration costs are massive to a city that employed 300,000 people itself.
Make no bones about it, I do want some form of narrowing the disparity of those with and those in need without extreme class divisions.
Trump is the posterchild for gluttonous excess.
I get time for a change but there is pie in the sky stuff and reality. Not much changes because it takes an extreme motivation to do so.

Clearly there are A LOT of New Yorkers feeling that they have been or are already getting fooked. Thus leading to a candidate with his views and ideas winning by a landslide. And what do you know, all without 34 felonies and sexual assault convictions. Who would of thought.
NY would probably be able to cover all of his proposals and still have money left over. If they didn't have to send out more money than it receives yearly($76Billion 2024 Fiscal Year) saving GOP lead states asses for the most part.

The 1975 NYC bankruptcy has already been forgotten, collective memory is short and fleeting. I am glad that the tax-and-spend proposition can be tried on the scale of a single, but very large and prominent city, it's obviously time for a refresher.

Its nice to be idealistic and talk things into existance when in reality its much harder to do so.
Trump says in his campaign he would end the Ukriane war day one. Tells us for years he has a better plan for "ObamaCare", but not really.
Hilary told West Virginia to move on from Coal. Trump said he would bring beutiful clean coal.
I could go on and on. Mandami has said much but not how he'd do it and if so to raise taxes, what is the blow back? How to control rent beyond current measures? How to pay for things?
The Mayoral race was very tight if Silwa had dropped out. Damn near a tie. Cuomo is a tired hack desperate to regain HIS purpose and power. Mandami was gifted him as an opponent in my opinion.
Yes, lets discuss how to change. In real terms, not that DECA commisary on military base's as the model for how its done without even respect to the levels of complexity I rattled off.

I am discussing it. I bring up questions of execution of said ideas!

I find it pointless to use Trump as a measuring stick for anything, cause he is a flat out liar. So why bring up that comparison for anything?
Not for nothing, but if folks want to hold on to horses as transportation when automobiles are on the cusp, that’s their prerogative. A failing one. I don’t think any state holding onto coal would be a good thing, seems like moving and evolving behind coal would be a very difficult task but one that needs discussing but you seem to hedge away from that position?
That’s not progress.

Is it trump that was lying or in part a voting population that is basically lacks any critial thinking ability to decifer the bull shit BEFORE he was voted back in?
The issue of horses was predicated on the amount of manure on unpaved roads and gallons of urine in the streets.
Wonder why all those old photos everything look blacked on buildings? It was the dirt/dust/mildew from all that bacteria.
Hildary did not have a well thought out plan to tell folks how to transition other than "do better". That shit did not fly. But Trump promoting "Clean Coal" was comical. He won.
States did not hold on to coal. In fact Kentucky has a fund to aid workers with black lung disease. BUt they don't like to make dispursments on it.
My point is we can talk about it. sure. Lets talk how to pay for it. Tax the rich is always popular! NYC has some high taxes as it is. Sure they will lose jobs. Thats How NYC works. My earlier take was also predicated on fair market value/Supply demand. People want things done and fewer workers available will also in time be able to charge more for services.
Mandami brings hope. I can appreciate that. Now how does a man who oversaw as an assemblyman 6 staff workers now be the lead executive for 300,000 and maintain a balance with the largest of financial institutions and a base of billionaires who get things done??

Your responses don’t make sense to me.
How does a new parent expect to raise children when they have never done so before? How would we expect Lincoln to be a decent politician when he failed to get elected over and over again for decades? How can a CEO who has never been a CEO before know who to be a successful CEO?
What’s the point of your last question?
Your bringing up Trump as a marker for anything falls dead flat for me. He is not a benchmark for anyone else and pointless in this context. We already know who he is, so why bring it up?
No one had a clear plan for the Internet, don’t mean it wasn’t a good idea or an insurmountable one. You seem to have taken a strict view that unless you can articulate enough, it’s dead or not worth it. That’s not that state at which we are at with the mayor elect?
Ok, lets talk a few generalities.
Its a big leap to go from an assemblyman to Mayor. He had a staf of 6 people. Now he the mayor of the largest city in the USofA!
He in over his head? Lincoln? That old timey shit is not a good comp. Lets talk CEO. YOu think a divisional sales manager, who has but a staf of six is able to lead a major corp? If it was a public company it might be a breach of fiduciary duty by its board!!!!
No clear path for the internet but it was born from demand. Well it was grown basically from porn industry. LOL....but the success of it was not the internet itself, but those who leveraged with precision! Like Amazon. Sold books then CD's.....as the capacity grew, so did the offerings.
Mandami is the Mayor elect and I do with him well. Really. Thats the reality. I recall a Briggs statement of Trump to the tune of "hey, might as well try it, what can go wrong!".........even as Jewish man I am not phobic to Mandami being a muslim. I expect he'll uphold integrity and treat all properly. Shame on Fox and Trump for speaking otherwise. Mandami has pandered to enough to make one suspicious.
As for Trump? I have to use him as a baseline for voting and support from millions that I deem politically illiterate, or bsically naive his lies......but you can't rule that out becuase it exists. He lies. His base eats it up. The hypocrisy that exists is staggering to me! When Marjorie Taylor Green starts to make sense you know we have issues!

Trump has zero to do with what the mayor can do or what his prerogative will be. You keep looping back to a dead topic that has nothing to do with what is at hand in NYC. It's a side show act to this particular topic but you keep edging back there. Have at it.

I said one statement that he is a raging anti-semite. If that is rhetoric so be it. He is using the word "genocide" to describe Israel's defensive response to Hamas. He does not support Israel to exist as a Jewish state. He refused to condemn Hamas . He supports a BDS movement against Israel. He is a member of the Democratic Socialist of America who celebrated Hamas. He declined to condemn the term "globalize the intifada" I am sure this affects me much more being Jewish. Maybe if you aren't Jewish you read this and you don't see the anti-semitism attached to each of these actions/ statements. There are also more anti-semitic actions associated with Mamdani that I didn't note btw.

The articles are stating quotes attributed to Mamdani. If you want to write off all the articles and quotes as flimsy then continue to stick your head in the sand and ignore it. Do you have any Jewish friends? Have you sat down and talked with anyone Jewish about this topic? I am sure there are a lot more people that could educate you better than I am doing, but the belief will be the same
