So happy our Knicks won it all but now the conversation has shifted to should the raise a banner to rafters. My opinion is that it should be on display somewhere. If not the rafters then have it on display at MSG, I mean its been 52 years since the last championship. Also related to the Cup, a guy on talk radio said it could be improved if the winning team got a draft pick just outside of the lottery. I like that idea, definitely gives the team something to play for.

Oh God, can you imagine a team like OKC getting yet ANOTHER mid first round pick for winning the cup? I think the tournaments starting to work, players have bought in, and the prize money is a nice little bump. I don't know what additional tinkering needs to be done. Maybe the cup winner is guaranteed at least a play-in spot for the post season?

I was 100% against hanging a banner but right now I honestly dgaf. Lakers and Bucks did it so it's not like we'd be going out of the norm and nobody is going to say it's the NBA Championship either. I'm also fine with them just hanging it up at the practice facility or Dolan's mansion or wherever.

I can see the practice facility eventually, but right now I'd like it somewhere where fans could see it and take pics and experience it. It seems like they are going out of the way to convince themselves this doesn't mean anything, when it does. If I go fishing a catch a fish (and its legal to keep) I'm keeping it, not throwing it back.

I'm 100% in favor of hanging a banner at MSG for this.
Consider how difficult it is to win: This is basically like a mini world cup. You have to first survive the first round, then you need to win 3 win or go home games.
In the NBA playoffs, *usually* the more talented (or more healthy) team wins, since you're playing up to 7 games. It's a game of adjustments. Here you need to be on top of in-game adjustments and you rely more heavily on X-factors - like a bench guy like Kolek having the NBA game of his life.
Winning this was sort of akin to Eli Manning's 2 superbowls or Kemba Walker's UConn title run. Your team gets hot and usually has to overcome several other hot teams along the way.
It's definitely not nothing - and I think not celebrating this with a banner is doing the fans and the players a disservice. Let's celebrate the wins. This NBA title or bust approach is pretty silly. We hang Eastern Conference Champ and Division Champ banners in the rafters... so this certainly deserves a place there too.

Also, what is up with Hart trying to stick his thumb in the Cap's ass? Is this something common among friends cause I never ever tonight of doing that and I'm swinging if someone tried to do that to me.

Small banner is not big deal. If they win it again, do it so you add a year, not a new banner. Nobody said a parade or in 20 years have the anniversary half time thing. Its not big deal unless they make it one. Knicks seem to not want to make a big deal about it. Looking at past "BING-Bong" circle jerks outside the arena is it really a big ass deal to be happy about something? I smiled and loved seeing them win. It was fun for the dudes on the bench to get a nice payday. Win first place in division, they put a banner up. I know Lakers/celtics have lots of banners. Good for them. Fuck Russo and his made up rants. Put one up, have a moment, then move on.

Fucking Billy Joel has a banner. Give me a banner!

Don't see how this motivates the players. It would suck for the guy at the end of the bench to get cut for a rookie.

If you are at the end of the bench that could happen anyways. I guess it would be motivation for luxury tax strapped organization to suddendly have another chip to either draft or trade. Imagine if we now had the 11th pick in the draft that's more capital that could be packaged in a trade.

I don’t think this team needs the motivation, they are hungry. I’d do it for the fans. If not in the rafters then somewhere inside MSG where us fans can enjoy it. We deserve to celebrate our team winning something.

Fun Fact: The Emirates Cup is NOT the first cup won by the Knicks! The McDonald's Championship (AKA the McDonald's Open)
The McDonald's Championship (sometimes called the McDonald's Open) was an international men's professional basketball cup competition that featured a representative of the National Basketball Association against champion club teams from Europe, Australia, and South America.
In 1990, the event took place in Barcelona, Spain with the New York Knicks, Scavolini Pesaro, POP 84 Split, and F.C. Barcelona competing for the title. In a thrilling overtime opener, the Knicks, led by All-Star Patrick Ewing, beat the Scavolini Pesaro and then defeated POP 84 Split, 117-101, in the final.
