The framework makes a ton of sense. More sense in the summer though. This Knicks team better step up so this stuff goes away. Win a title this year and all of this goes away. But getting Giannis/ Holiday would be amazing but almost too good to be true.

this would still require MIL trading Giannis for KAT basically, but POR could add some draft compensation for the Jrue/Mikal swap.
Plus we could add the WSH picks.

The suggestion is that Portland owns Milwaukee picks in 28, 29, 30 for the Dame trade and some or all would be included. No idea the details.

Well I think if you can get POR to give up 2 of those picks it's a good deal.
Salary wise would look something like...
MIL - KAT, WSH picks, 2 firsts from POR? NY - Giannis, Jrue POR - Mikal, Yabu
Philc1@ 1/27/2026 10:02 AM
Both KAT and Giannis have player options after next season. KAT is one year younger but Giannis is better and better conditioned. Obviously I would love Giannis at the right price but if nothing happens I’d be fine either way. In 2 years KAT will want another super max when he’s 32 but so will Giannis when he’s 33.

Wouldn't be surprised if Yabu to New Orleans was a part of this for Alvarado and then Kolek would be included somehow?

Incoming! Rich Paul wants in on the action. This will end well for everyone I am sure

I think it does too.
Portland goes from 35yo Jrue (soon to be 36 this summer eek) to 29yo Mikal and Mikal adds some vet presence on a decent contract for 4+years. Next year Lillard will be back and he will have ball in hands surrounded by Mikal, Sharpe, Deni, Klingon. That's a fun Blazers team and they already a play-in team right now.
Milwaukee gets KAT and lots of their picks back, and possibly Scoot? They can extend and then move KAT again if they wanna really tank.
NY takes a risk on Jrue for this season and 2 more. He provides defense and ball handling next to Brunson. I don't know Jrue's game very well but he seems more like a natural PG compared with Brunson, and this will make Brunson even more dangerous off ball. I'd guess Knicks would target Alvarado type to bring of bench cause Kolek just doesn't have it now.
I'd want to play Giannis at C long term and still bring big Mitch off bench.
Philc1@ 1/27/2026 10:45 AM
Meh, would rather just keep KAT and Mikal.
nycericanguy@ 1/27/2026 10:47 AM
I will say Jrue and Giannis are injury prone and could easily just get worse and worse. I could see Jrue falling off a cliff next season.

100% true. It'll be the cost and risk.
For me, it's a 2 season risk outside of this one for Jrue. And his $37M becomes expiring during the 2027-28 season. SG is the one position that is most easily fill-able via draft or trade IMHO.
Giannis would have to move to C eventually. He seems like the guy who would work continuously on his 3point shot ala Brook Lopez. Strangely, he is shooting 39% on low volume this year.
DLeethal@ 1/27/2026 12:06 PM
Wouldn't be shocked if we trade for Jrue + Bucks picks now with eyes on summer Giannis trade. Although lots of smoke trending towards a deadline deal for Giannis. I believe his big extension is contingent on getting traded before the deadline.

Giannis in my opinion would be deadly at C, especially as he ages. I'm not sure why it hasn't been tried yet. He has the attributes and skills of a modern center, on steroids.

Here’s a more likely scenario:
Buc’s fire Doc Rivers Buc’s hire Tom Thibodeau Buc’s don’t trade Giannis Buc’s make the playoffs
martin@ 1/27/2026 3:15 PM
This video notes that Giannis needs to be on a different team by this deadline if he wants to be able to sign max extension this coming Oct, I guess you have to do it by Oct? IDK but that seems like the prevailing thought.
As well, if Rich Paul wants to be able to represent Giannis and get paid for the extension, he needs to be rep'ing Giannis by Thursday, a week ahead of the trade deadline cause of another player union rule or something
martin@ 1/27/2026 4:06 PM
Some good stats breakdown of Jrue. Short version not bad at all.
LivingLegend@ 1/27/2026 8:09 PM
I don't know about this one - love Jrue but he looks washed.
Also wonder if Hart/Giannis are such a great fit as Giannis would likely start dominating possessions Hart has been getting and Josh not the best spot up guy or defender.
How about we go low key and re-route Mitch/Pacome for Missi/Bey/Alvarado (works in checker)
Separately we move Yabu/Clarkson for Sochan (works in checker but may take some 2nd round picks).
Lose injury prone but impactful Mitch plus 2 turds in Pacome/Yabu but get young athletic/defensive big in Missi, defensive PG in Alvarado, scorer in Bey and in separate deal defensive/ball handling PF in Sochan (who can play off Kat & with OG/Mikal).
Giannis coming off another calf injury (2x this season) tells me to pass for now. Unless the Knicks trade for him and give him 2-3 months to let that injury heal it just seems like a bad idea. Ready to move KAT but I think we have to stick to our standards of not trading for currently injured players. We are still looking for old vets past their prime (Jrue) which brings up many painful memories through the years as most did not work out (Vandeweghe, McGrady, S.Francis, etc). I really think we would be better served trying to acquire another solid defensive minded center as our best lineup needs a rim protecting center. Mitch, Hart, OG, Bridges and Deuce (and Shamet) show a different energy vs Brunson and KAT. If we move KAT we need Brunson for offensive purposes in close games but we still need a C that offers similar style as Mitch to complement.
Which C is similar to Mitch in terms of his play style, hustle, defense and rim protection? Kessler (hurt), Mark Williams, Robert Williams (hurt)? IMO that's what we should focus on if we are moving KAT as there is very few C's that rim protect and are great from outside (Myles Turner lesser but does both to some degree)... We're running a system so why not be able to run it similarly and maybe add some depth in a trade for KAT?

We've been linked to Nick Richards and Yves Messi.
Giannis would definitely get some run at the 5 if we trade for him as well. Giannis is huge, no reason he can't play 5 in this system for 10-15 mins a night.
