Knicks · What will it take to win a Championship win this group (page 3)

I like that Brown is trying to get Brunson more off the ball but what I'm not sure Brown possesses is the willingness to get in Brunson's face (as the captain) and tell him he sits if he doesn't move the ball and quit with the "I cook and my teammates get scraps" approach. Problem is Kolek is weak defensively as well - but I'd still use him to make the point as we are simply going to struggle against physically defensive and tough minded teams like Detroit and OKC. Hoping Alvarado has some playmaking abilities because we've all seen the ball move more without Brunson (despite us needing Brunson's iso/hero ball at times as well).

It's the same story as we had with Melo. When Melo played like he always played ( ISO King) we were in the playoffs, like first or second round. He would have a stretch of games where he was DadMelo( distributing) and the team was just unreal when he did that. Unfortunately, in the playoffs he always reverted to isoMelo.

FO did its job at trade deadline plus.

Got GTA. Got Sochan. Got Mo extra minutes.

Ok. The crew to the ship is set. Now we steer it correctly.

From watching this season, the best version of this team

1) Has 30+ assists per game
2) Shots coming from 3 & 3 - beyond the arc 3 or within 3 feet of the basket. This is a geometric win.
3) Midrange shots happen only in the last 7 seconds of possessions.
4) Someone other than Brunson advances the ball. Makes it harder for the defense to set on Brunson.
5) Stocks are high. Steals and Blocks that is. The Wings are active.
6) Boards. KAT, Robinson, Hart are after it.

As Bill Walton would say, the team that scores the most points usually wins.

Leon for President. What we need to win a chip? Jeremy Sochan.
Our depth is absolutely crazy.
Brown is the perfect coach for Leon’s WING FACTORY.
Love this team. Talk about going for it.

We couldn’t put together enough talent around Melo. Best roster we had was the 2012 team that won 54 games with and that roster was absolutely ancient we had like 5-6 guys on the roster above 35 years old. Once Kidd retired it was over the window with Melo closed

The difference now is this regime is great at finding gems in the second round to fill out the roster starting with Mitch in 2018. Yes that was before Rose but Perry was here and that home run along with drafting RJ and signing Randle started everything

I have more faith in Brunson's ability to see the big picture than Melo who was reliably myopic about being the hero all the time.

Melo never gave me the feeling he cared enough about doing whatever was necessary to win if it took the focus off him. It is one of the reasons I never liked watching him play. And for a guy who always wanted to take the last shot he had a remarkably low success rate as a clutch shooter. Brunson by comparison is a demi-god in that respect.

I never felt the excuse he lacked surrounding talent to be a compelling argument, because I would have never tried to build a team around a guy like Melo. As good a scorer as he was, he was not a franchise player. He was firepower you add to a good team to put it over the top, not the other way around. Melo was too selfish to lead a team and be its best player. He should have been second fiddle to a Lebron or some other better player when he was still in his prime.

I'd like to believe Brunson is a wiser man and will make some judicious adjustments in the playoffs about when to freelance vs. being a proper floor general when the team needs him to lead.

Brunson suffers from ball hogging tunnel vision at times and it is a perfectly valid criticism. TBH, some of our best ball of the season was when he was on the bench watching. But he is capable of shifting gears and I want to believe he'll make better choices because I think his hunger to win is great enough to let someone else be the hero.

PassTheBall @ 2/17/2026 11:42 PM
We also need KAT to play defense.
NYKBocker @ 2/18/2026 7:40 AM
We just need to be at full strength
newyorknewyork @ 2/18/2026 8:45 AM
Health, KAT buying into the role he did for the 2nd half of the 8 game win streak, and MO's development.
Panos @ 2/20/2026 7:41 AM
An off-season to trade KAT, OG and Brickage
ramtour420 @ 2/20/2026 1:16 PM
Beating the Pistons in the playoffs is one of the needed tasks, or so it seems

I'm not sure Brunson can adjust enough after watching last night. My post AS-game optimism evaporated after one game. Last night showed us who this team is.

The rest of the season is a test of Brown's ability to push the team to play the game correctly, ESPECIALLY Brunson.

If Brown fails to get buy-in and he fails to install plays that get KAT, Bridges and even OG shots in rhythm when Brunson is on the floor then he will go down in flames.

Brunson is not as bad as Melo was, but I'm starting to feel he may ISO us out of more games in the future. Riding his hot hand will not get you very far.

Knixkik @ 2/20/2026 10:35 PM
It’s easy to overreact to last night. We have been down this road many times. Let’s see how it plays out.
PassTheBall @ 2/21/2026 5:01 AM
It will take a trade. Still a cool season as a top team. Let’s get Giannis this summer and try again. Too bad it will take OG.
SergioNYK @ 2/21/2026 9:24 AM
We're going to need those aliens Obama hinted about to abduct and kidnap the entire Detroit and OKC rosters.
ramtour420 @ 2/21/2026 4:49 PM
So I watched the first half of the Detroit game. I cannot watch this team. Mike Brown's offense is a good idea. But why is it just an idea? Why don't we actually do it? I don't understand. It's all ISO, and not just at the end of halfs. All game, like wtf. When I see Laundry Shamet trying to create for himself......I don't know what to think. Brown needs to sit our starting lineup if they are not playing the " spray offense". F it. We aren't winning $hit if we don't start passing with a purpose more than 5% of the time. Which is what we are doing now. Why is no one cutting when Towns has the ball at the 3 point line? Why is Brunson so hopeless at passing out of double teams? Don't they work on this ? I am flabbergasted. This is my 666 post too. I am fking sick of this shit. Soo much talent on this team. I cannot believe this. Come on!!!!

We go as far as our leaders take us and If nobody is hitting their shots, it’s the Towns and JB takeover as the backup strategy. Need to surround them with Steve Novak (catch and shoot) type players.

LivingLegend @ 2/23/2026 8:28 AM
Feel like Josh and Mikal have to play over their heads (or over what we've seen).

Going to assume Jalen/Kat/OG will all function mostly normal but can't have the 2 guys above be net negatives.

Of course ain't going anywhere without bench guys playing above pay grade.

Guess as I type this - we only have a shot if entire unit (1-10) are functioning at a very high level.
