Trade rumors surrounding New York Knicks forward Guerschon Yabusele had been circulating for well over a month, and the team finally found a landing spot for him.

According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the Knicks have dealt the 30-year-old to the Chicago Bulls for guard Dalen Terry, who was selected in the first round of the 2022 NBA Draft

Yabusele's $5.7 million was reportedly a major obstacle in trade talks leading up to the deadline given his struggles this year, but New York ultimately moved on from its free agent signee from this past offseason and will now add Terry as backcourt depth off the bench.

Yabusele's Knicks Tenure
A first-round pick in the 2016 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics, Yabusele left the league and played for the Chinese Basketball Association's Nanjing Monkey Kings during the 2019-2020 campaign before ending up with the EuroLeague's Real Madrid, one of the best teams in Europe, and playing for them from 2021 through 2024.

Yabusele signed with the Philadelphia 76ers ahead of the 2024-25 campaign and was a bright spot for them, averaging 11.0 points and 5.6 rebounds on 50.1 percent shooting from the field over 27.1 minutes per game while appearing in 70 contests.

The Frenchman proceeded to sign a two-year deal with the Knicks worth $11.2 million on July 1, 2025, and he was expected to play a key role as a reserve for the team as they positioned themselves for a potential NBA Finals run.

Yabusele struggled mightily in the Big Apple, though, as he averaged just 2.7 points on 39.3 percent shooting from the field while averaging 8.9 minutes in the 41 contests he played in.

Now, he'll have a chance to rediscover his game with the Bulls and potentially earn more playing time for a non-contender.

What Knicks Are Getting in Terry
Terry, who was picked just outside of the lottery in 2022 at No. 18 overall, appeared in 97 games over his first two seasons in the NBA for Chicago and averaged 2.7 points over that stretch while logging 9.2 minutes per contest.

During the 2024-25 campaign, Terry suited up in 73 games and posted 4.5 points per contest on 44.8 shooting from the field.

He saw his minutes per game total fall slightly from where it stood at 13.5 last season to 11.1 with the Bulls this year, though, and he was averaging 3.5 points per game for them across 34 contests.

Terry is on an expiring contract before reaching restricted free agency in the offseason, and it remains to be seen how the Knicks utilize him.

Leon should have known that " You cant trust a big butt and a smile "

Well that is a win dumping Yabu without trading any picks. Getting into the lesser trade market just got much easier with a legit expiring.

I am almost more interested in the buyout market though. Seems like Conley, Middleton, and Lonzo are all gonna hit the buyout market.

Shocking the Knicks didn’t have to attach a pick to this deal. It won’t go down as a major move, but it’s a really good move and maybe the difference between them being a second apron team or not next year.

Lets not forget the rumor Yabu heads to Israel for the 5mm he gives up. If true, this makes more sense for Bulls.

great trade. Yabu the player had negative value because of that PO next year. Now we have an expiring we can use in trades. Can't believe CHI couldn't finagle even a 2nd rounder from us.

gotta resign Mitch at all costs, look what he did to Jokic last night. and that could be a finals preview.

Good

Can we somehow get Missi, then let mitch walk after teh parade this summer?
Im not focused on after this season and at the same time have no idea what the market is, or salary expectatins that Mitch and his agent hope to accomplish. He has 25mm talent on a 5mm healthy body. What does his xrays say about sustainability for the next few years?
Mitch is a great compliment to KAT for this season of NOW! Lets see how things shake out after the parade.
nycericanguy @ 2/5/2026 8:20 AM
Missi is not good and certainly not a Mitch replacement. that would be a big downgrade.

So let's be clear here.
Cavs, Warriors, Boston, Hawks make moves to potentially improve their chances this year.
Knicks manage to salary dump a contract they signed 4 months ago? That's it?
Panos @ 2/5/2026 8:40 AM
Yabu now set up nicely to have a 30pt game at msg

We're better than all those teams you mentioned. I'm all for dumping KAT but I still see us as favorites for the title.

A different Delon Wright

Let’s talk about the newest Knick, Dalen Terry, and what he could bring to the table right now

Offensively, he’s mostly been used as a spacer and secondary handler. His three-point attempt rate sits at 41.6% (46th percentile),The efficiency hasn’t been great, but the context obviously matters. His shot quality has been rough (26.2 Shot Quality score, 9th percentile), and has a 54.3% true shooting (31st percentile) with a -1.9 CraftedOPM (13th percentile).

Defensively is where Terry starts to show some flashes as he grades out as a real positive on that end, posting a +0.8 CraftedDPM (73rd percentile). He’s active in passing lanes at 2.9 deflections per game (66th percentile), rebounds his position well, and holds up as a versatile matchup piece. Most of his assignments come against guards and wings, and he’s actually been strongest versus small forwards, where his length and anticipation show up. Even the rim deterrence numbers quietly pop for a wing (77th percentile), which basically speaks more to instincts and positioning than blocks.

Terry doesn’t need touches his creation load this year (24.4, 38th percentile) and creation score (2.5, 45th percentile) tell you he’s not here to do too much.

There are some offensive flashes worth noting too. He finishes well when he gets inside, shooting 66.7% in the paint and over 53% at the rim, and his shot diet is heavy rim and corner looks, which could improve his efficiency once he starts to figure out his spots.

Low-cost wing with size (6’6”, 7’1” wingspan), defensive versatility, shoutout @_the6thman
for being on this from months ago 👊👊
