Knicks · Playoff time! (page 26)

Detroit in trouble. While I think Orlando and Clev have exposed ways to beat Detroit, we don't want to play them

Thompson will beat up Jalen in ways that Cleveland can't, and overall I think they play very aggressively, lots of grabbing, scratching, super hard close outs. Injury risk really escalates

martin @ 5/17/2026 9:52 PM
Got to remind myself what the Knicks look like

BlueKnickers @ 5/17/2026 10:17 PM
Geezus Christmas

As good as the Cavs look tonight, the Pistons look utterly lost. Cade is playing like a rookie, no leadership showing up on their team at all

It took six games, but the Cavs figured out DET. Their bigs are destroying them

Cleveland is going to be a tougher team for us, but I like having homecourt advantage so it's not a big deal either way

martin @ 5/17/2026 10:18 PM
Cleveland it is

That said I’m still sticking w my cavs upset pistons prediction. Allen and Mobley finally showed some fire and signs of life so we’ll see

Do I win a cookie, or do I have to wait until the end!

Kidding aside I mentioned during the early part of the Orlando series that it was apparent Detroit could give it out on D but couldn’t take it. Yes it would be nice to score on them but the key to victory was physical defense against them. Yesterday Cavs trapped Cade repeatedly. If we see Detroit instead of Cleveland we should keep this in mind and obviously have our own wrinkles to it

Will be a loooong offseason for Detroit. What a piss poor performance all around.

Tons of empty seats. Surprised more fans didn’t stick around to congratulate them for the season

In the end we all thought it would be Knicks/Cavs as the two best in the east when the season started.
The path is always different. The trade for Harden was a suprise but one that made them better.

Detroit and Boston were regular season suprises but as we all know shit happens!

NardDogNation @ 5/17/2026 11:49 PM
Finals....here we come. Donovan Mitchell is streaky; James Harden is a bum and Mobley/Allen are soft. Knicks in 5!

We could feed her Ozempic and still beat the Cavs. Let her hibernate until the Finals before we bring her back.

IMO the key will be neutralizing Mobley/allen. We could dominate there but don’t need to; just don’t let them have field days. And after that don’t let Merrill, wade or strus have all star performances.

Media wants to talk about Mitchell but as you said he’s streaky. I’ll add that’s on offense. On defense he’s pretty reliably underwhelming.

Merrill was instrumental w his shooting and wade and strus had solid defensive assignments on Cade. I don’t think that formula translates to us but we’ll see

I am a little uneasy with Cleveland tbh. I think in general Knicks fans are feeling too good about this one. They played their best game of the playoffs last night and have a lot of weapons to contain. They are also able to exploit Brunson/KAT on defense much better than Detroit could. I was rooting for Cleveland because I wanted home court, but I think we should be prepared for a real battle and not the easy road many are predicting.

100%
Detroit was more of a known quantity, more straightforward. As you say, Cleveland has a lot of weapons, big and small

Nerrill was great in the last game and guys like that can hurt you, but the key definitely is limiting their bigs easy hoops and offensive boards. Mitch is important to this series now even more than the previous series and I think we will see him and KAT on the floor together more during this series.

You actually would hope for DM trying to score instead of distributing, because they opened up the game with him feeding Allen and Mobley for easy lobs and DET looked defenseless. Duren did nothing to stop them and after him the Pistons looked like midgets. We should be able to put up better resistance in the paint than DET did.
