Well, Brunson is a better defender this year for starters and since Brown emphasizes more man to man defense that matters. Brunson puts a lot of effort into staying in front of his man now and he often does a decent job

We switch now due to court communication and awareness as a team. Thibs would have them switching, but it was lazier and more performative sometimes than effective

In general, the best defensive teams play man defense as much as possible.

KAT just wised up finally about 3/4's of the way through the regular season and stopped reaching and hooking. He's capable as a defender.

Thibs would have our defenders sag off the perimeter, because he was obsessed with plugging up the lane. It didn't work that well because we'd get burned on the perimeter and had one of the worst 3 point defenses in the NBA under Thibs.

You don't have to sag if you commit to man defense, communicate well and switch when one of your guys get picked off by a screen

Also, Browns stunts double coverage more strategically than Thibs ever did. It is not a given we'll double team the point of attack, but we do it enough that the other team doesn't know what to expect.
