Sorry but coaches and the front office don't actually play, and no one was more responsible for the Knicks resurgence then MIP/ 2nd Team All NBA Randle. Brunson/ OG/ KAT- none of those guys make sense unless Randle raised the floor enough on the Knicks to get them out of the 30 wins per season hell hole we lived in for 20 years. Bitch and complain about his attitude and playoff performances but acknowledge that there's a huge difference between losing and winning 50 games a year.
Randle is one of the best in the NBA at grinding out average possessions and has been so for the past 6 seasons doing his 20/10/5 thing. His value to the Nets is that they won't be a bottom 3 team so they don't have to worry about relegation of their picks. Same value as Trae Young where because of the reforms no team wants to be bottom 3.
Yes.For an average team, at an average salary. For an average result. Can he overachieve for 50 wins? Possibly maybe. Is " contract year Randle" a thing? Yea

This.
Randle is a good player. He’s a double double machine. Basically more athletic and fit Zach Randolph. You can win 45-55 games with him but he ain’t winning a title. KAT is a way more dynamic player despite the fact the refs hate him.
His second year he was runaawy most improved player (George Mikan trophy). Was also 8th in MVP voting.
All NBA twice!
3 time allstar.
All as knicks. He peaked here. Not in LA or NOLA.
It was a damn good free agent signing. in fact we parlayed him and DDV from free agency and turned that into KAT!
What a freaking bargain!!!!
Nobody thinks he can carry a team to a chip as the lead dog.

He also set the precedent for negotiating a team-friendly contract. Right after dragging us into the playoffs and winning the MIP award. And curing covid.
But I digress. Randle is trash. Good riddance!
Oh yeah… Jalen also isn’t coming here if we were still perennial losers.
I hope he tears shit up in Brooklyn and opts out the following year. I can’t root for the Nets.

Carried some bad teams and led us back out of the dark ages.
Some blaming him for Minny being ousted? They lost to SA without Donte, healthy Ant, Mcdaniels and Dosunmu all with injuries. Prior to a need for him to once again change roles to once again neing the main scorer, he was playing his part well. Similar to what KAT had to do.
When trade was made KAT was considered soft and not worth $60 million. Minny thought Donte and Randle had same value or better. Prior to injury the sentiment proved right by decisive win over Denver and last years run. Many not thinking KAT would sacrifice his game for the sake of the team. We were wrong. There was never a doubt about KATs talent, just his mindset and like Randle, ability to not do stupid things on the court. We all saw KATs desire to win and willingness to play a lesser role. We are all damn happy the way it turned out. Chip proves that he was exactly what we needed. Could Randle have done the same. We will never know.
However, don’t get the hate for Randle or any other former player. Specially ones who took us out of being the jokes of the NBA. Maybe some not around those 19 years of bottom feeding.
Most of all, We are the fucking CHAMPS now!! Let’s act like it. Leave the hate for the fans of gutter teams. I love my team and would not trade anyone who won the chip. Also love any players that helped us get them all and were part of the rebuild and road to what we have today.
Btw, not sure Donte would want to be back. Like Brunson, he enjoyed having a bigger role.

40 wins for the Nets would be huge! They just want to be out of the bottom 3. Also, I think KAT and Randle are buds, hopefully there's some simpatico between the two teams this year, I never bought into them being rivals.
