Knicks' Leon Rose Reportedly Made Decision to Fire Thibodeau, James Dolan Backed Movehttps://bleacherreport.com/articles/2520...
There are more clear-cut articles like this that state the initiative came from the front office and Dolan supported their decision, no inferences required.
According to The Athletic's Sam Amick, Mark Puleo and James Edwards III, the decision was made by Knicks president Leon Rose, who had "the full backing of owner James Dolan."
Honestly the way Carton is talking I am convinced that Mitch is coming back. Carton has turned into Dolan's mouthpiece. He is adamant he has insider info aka Dolan's word that Mitch is coming back. He's taking a victory lap for this Shamet signing. And he is saying this will all be possible because KAT will take a paycut on his extension. So maybe they are willing to dip their toes into the second apron this year knowing they will get under it again next year when KAT's lesser contract kicks in.
are we even able to negotiate a KAT contract ext now?
im starting to think Mitch comes back, b/c why else are we penny pinching all around and not even using our picks? we are not even hearing that he's meeting with teams.
KAT could sign a 4/200m ext which would start around $44m per year. Even a 4/225m would start around 49m saving 12m next season.
we could also give Mitch a huge 1 year 30-35m contract with the intention that next season he signs a more reasonable deal. not sure if thats allowed in the NBA? but maybe then he could sign for another 2-3 years at 6m per year or so.

July 20 he can
well the closer we get to that date with Mitch being unsigned will def tell us something.
If KAT can take a deal like the above we can give Mitch a nice contract.

Hey I can cite bleacher report articles too. Funny, this one says Dolan spearheaded the firing of Thibs after players expressed to him they didn’t want to play for him.

Looking forward to Mitch coming back. Let’s wreck this league.

Exactly my point. We can both draw any inference we want. You mentioned confirmation bias. It goes both ways is what that means. If you want to read into the "reports" that Dolan overruled Rose or I want to infer that a unilateral action was unlikely, none of these articles provide proof of either interpretation.
Neither of us have enough information to conclusively state one way or the other. We can assume whatever we choose to assume. It is your prerogative.
We merely have differing opinions about the likelihood Dolan would fire Thibs without Rose's backing and vice versa.
The only thing I was disputing was your sources are not proof. They are gossip. Neither of us have proof to substantiate our assumptions conclusively.
