It was awesome seeing Shamet take that deal while lesser players were signing for 2-3x the amount on the same day. It's beautiful to see guys that want to be here so bad. He's close to becoming a low key legend in NY for it.
From what I read his girl is based in NYC with a substantial career herself and he seems to be into other things outside of basketball so it makes sense. With his stint in BKN prior he his engrained now 3 years and having made 30mil he should be building a nice finanical base as well. Naturally he could have made more per year on a shorter contract so perhaps like 8mm for two years? Did not see if 4th year is guaranteed or a player/team option. If its a good deal and healthy the deal can be good for team as trade fodder when the window deems it so.
As for Mitch? For all we know knicks might be done with him regardless of price? Media is fueling all kinds of things and just because we go over the apron don't mean we stay over it. I don't think he does us any favors but fact is knicks were very patient with him over the years and it paid off for both team and player! Is he more than a 23 ppg role player? 19min playoff? His x-rays of his feet and ankle might tell a story not being told. His minutes reduced and no back to back, and limited to 60 games which is a vast improvement over the 17 and 31 games over the previous two seasons.
Duece trade low? The kid had abdominal surgery and perhaps lost his lift. He looked bloody awful but our depth carried the chip run on! He needs to demonstrate his health regardless and one should expect he should be back to form in the fall. If not you let him walk. Duece served us well and was a great value. I can see him as trade fodder. Just keep his ass out of Miami! Don't want this kid haunting us and make look Riley look good again.
Glad Shamet is back! Good story, good kid, good defender, shooter.........and for what DDV gave us at half the cost. Love DDV but he did blow out his heel in April and would not have given us anything to the chip, and next year.
Anyone know of he and Ron Baker played together? I think they about 4 years difference in age so they might have missed each other or perhaps Landry was a freshman? Both at Witchita State.

1. He playing a role on a really good team.

im not the one running around putting words in Shamets mouth. Im just rooted in reality that he barely got on the team last year.
But im a big fan. He filled in the role left by DDV departure and PROVED to be a valuable piece and an great bargain. Im a bit rooted in reality that injuries happen. He fit MIke Browns system fantastic and it all came together great for him and the team.
Yes, all contracts are subject to hindsight but its a good value as PHilC parroted for many reasons including that if he stays healthy its a trade asset when the window starts to close or we have another need, He makes Deuce expendible either by free agency if it comes to that or he is a trade asset for this season. Obviously Mike Brown loves the kid. They were a great fit for each other and chemistry matters!
Thise 101 games were spread even over two seasons. If Deuce is traded for a big its perhaps Kolek or Dadiet are stepping up. one cannot expect any player to exist 82 games besides Mikal.
