Knicks · Idiots who liked the Mo Taylor trade manup! (page 11)

diderotn @ 3/25/2005 11:36 AM
I like the Mo trade, it may not workout this season, but for sure next season we will all see why Isiah traded for him....sometimes, some players just don't fit, and that is not the case with Malik and Rose...
fishmike @ 3/25/2005 11:38 AM
I have never "bashed" Mo... has anyone else really? I have always just said its a bad trade because it hurts our flexibility going forward and cost us a draft pick.

You should probably stick to the roster flexibility argument, because based on the bloids, he's becoming the new darling of NYC.

Actually, there is more than one argument. Roster flexibility is obvious. He also brings nothing that develops our young players. Unlike Malik Rose. So, yet again, why is Mo here?

So, yet again, why is Mo here?

Coach Herb Williams hasn't tried to conceal his delight about adding Taylor's shooting. "The one thing I remember is we could not stop him when he played in Houston," Williams said. "From the outside and the inside, we couldn't stop him. For whatever reason, Jeff wasn't playing him. I don't know, maybe it was defense or a lack of doing something else. I always knew the guy could score."

http://www.nj.com/sports/ledger/index.ss...

Taylor hadn't been playing for more than a month because he didn't fit into Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy's rotation, and Williams wanted to know what to expect. Ewing could only tell him what he had seen in practice.

"I asked Pat about him,'" Williams said yesterday at practice, "and he said, 'No one can stop him in practice.'"

...

Most of the season the Knicks have relied on the outside shooting of Stephon Marbury and Jamal Crawford, and the midrange jump shooting of Kurt Thomas off the pick-and-roll. But lately, with Michael Sweetney showing both power and finesse underneath, and Taylor exhibiting his post-up game, Williams has more inside options, and the Knicks may have a new inside-out game.

...

"You ask any coach around this league and they'll tell you, if you're going to win consistently, you have to have a presence in the paint on both ends," Williams said. "The one thing I remember is we could not stop him when he played in Houston."

"Obviously, me and Malik came from winning situations, so we want to bring some of what we learned in Houston and San Antonio here," Taylor said. "We played for great defensive-minded coaches. So whatever we can do to help out, that's what we're going to do."

I'm just messin around , but I see your point (honestly)...

only time will tell...but bashing his skills just seems premature.

Mo-Mentum

>> So, yet again, why is Mo here?

Because he knows what to do with the ball in the low post

and he has a round head

Yeah, Mo can score. The only positive from the trade is that some of his moves may rub off on Sweetney. Hopefully, none of the negatives rub off.

So did Moochie and he came cheaper.

Ira... regardless of win orlose this year, who would you rather see get minutes, Sweetney or Mo Taylor?

Sweetney. But when he inevitably gets in foul trouble or needs to rest, Taylor is our other low post option.

My guess is that Herb was the one that wanted to get Mo. He likes to use the low post a lot and having Mo on the bench gives him more options to work the low post. Isaiah probably didn't mind giving Herb what he wanted since it ony cost a late 2nd.
Clean @ 3/25/2005 1:15 PM
Like I said the day the trade was made I love the trade. You can't make everyone happy. SO if you hate the trade so be it. If you want to see Vin and Cooch play go watch tapes of the old games or turn into a rocket fan. It is that simple. I have seen enough of them both. I know what going to happen before they even get in the game. Cooch will dribble the shotclock down to 5 almost dribbling the bal off his foot a couple times. He wil then drive to the hop and get trapped between 2 to 3 defenders and then throw up a prayer. Vin wil go to the post and get pushed around until the ball pops out of his hand like a nerd giving up his luynch money.

Because clearly Baker and Hooch are the main attractions of the NBA.

Yeah, so Vin and Cooch suck. Tell me something I don't know. Just because some players on your team suck doesn't mean you give up and make bad trades.
nyk4ever @ 3/25/2005 2:10 PM
I just don't see the big deal with Mo Taylor. I think its safe to say that 2 or 3 out of the 5 powerfowards that are on the Knicks now are NOT going to be on the team next year. With that being said, you need a backup PF for next year and I think Mo Taylor will be that guy. This means say goodbye to either Jerome Williams, Malik Rose, Kurt Thomas and Mike Sweetney. I'll take Mo Taylor off the bench any day of the year, he's good offense, no matter how many dollars he's getting paid.
simrud @ 3/25/2005 3:30 PM
How is it safe to say that 2 or 3 of these PF's wount be on the team next yer????

Taylor is not going anywhere, uless we take even worse money and givep even more picks.

KT is apparently impossible to trade as we have been trying for 2 years now w/out any success.

Rose is not going anywhere for the same reason Taylor is not.

JYD is not going anywhere, for yet again the same reason, he is alos grossly overpaid.

Sure Sweetney can be traded, but if that's the case, then you should hate the Mo Taylor trade even more.

but one of them might get packaged with TT/Penny at the trading deadline. Thats what nyk4ever is saying
simrud @ 3/25/2005 3:41 PM
Why? Because a team lookin for expiring deals will just take on a long term role player our of the kindness of their heart?

And what do you think we would be gettin back exactly? More long term older injury prone players, because real stars don't get traded just for expiring contracts with a bad one included as well.
gunsnewing @ 3/25/2005 3:44 PM
another Stephon Marbury like player making closer to 20mil a year as opposed to the 7,8 or 9mil that rose, jyd, kt and taykor make which will be a lot more manageable for the other team.
Cookdcokehop @ 3/25/2005 5:47 PM
forget the salary cap, we gave up two bums being vin baker and moochie norris for taylor. mo taylor is a under rated player he can score almost at will, i just wish he would play better defense and pass the ball more. only thing i didnt like bout the trade is we lost a 2nd round draft pick
simrud @ 3/25/2005 5:57 PM
So you are willing to give up 2 future 1st round picks, all our expiring deals, ariza and whatever other prospects we have for some overrated max player who has fallen out of favor with his current team, and probably for good reason, like, oh I don't know, Randolph?

i believe it took a lot less than that to get Marbury. I don't know where you get 2 future 1st round picks from + Ariza!

more like i lottery protected future 1st round pick with TT/Penny maybe Sweetney

It's called buying people out Simrud and also packaging them with expiring contracts. Like it or not, thats how things work in the NBA and it is done time and time again. If I had to choose one PF thats currently on the team that I think will DEF. be back next year, I would say its Malik Rose, I don't think anyone else is safe.

I'm still not a sold on Sweetney. I was a huge advocate of him getting playing time and I just haven't seen Sweetney really progress from the beginning of this year, he's doing the same things he did then that he is now, which is; fouling alot, not being in shape, and not being agressive in the post.
gunsnewing @ 3/25/2005 6:43 PM
i think if Sweetney ever gets in shape he will become a better finisher and his moves will be a lot quicker. Thats a big if though but I still think he's our most valuable PF. so if he goes its not necessarily because he's the worst of the 5. If Sweetney goes then I don't mind keeping taylor because we can definitely use his low post offense off the bench especially without Sweetney gone and rose and jyd since they play multiple postions and are great teammates. But Kurt Thomas must go for a draft pick please Isiah!

This is scary, because sweets is pretty quick now, he just needs stamina and more hops (both come with losing weight)

Can this freaking knick game start...is it going to be on ESPN or are gonna be blacked out...any confirmations on that?
