Sorry, but I think Shaq was MVP. I think Nash was a clear second, but i would like to see the racial composite of the voters because it really seems skewed. I think that if Miami the whole season without Shaq, there is NO way they are even .500. I think Shaq made Dwayne Wade better.
On the other hand, Pheonix actually has a guy I think couldve easily been a clear 3rd place in Amare and then top 10 in Marion, on top of which Joe Johnson played closed to all star levels.
Nope Shaq was the MVP, and while its not a runaway, nevertheless its digracefully wrong.
Shaq is definitely MVP in my book.
Nash is the fashionable choice--the new kid on the block among MVP candidates. I'm not surprised he got the award.
BRIGGS, not every snub towards African-Americans is racist. please

. Voters simply got tired of Shaq. I thought Shaq should've won it, but the latest trend was to love Nash while not realizing that all he was doing was what he had been doing with Dallas the past several years. I agree with Bonn.
Nash didn't deserve it. He had a great season, sure, but not an MVP season. I'd say he isn't even the MVP of his own team-- I'd rank Stoudemire and Marion ahead of him. He won the award based on the media hype machine, which in turn is based on sloppy thinking.
IMO, Nash as MVP is a joke. I agree he might not have even been the MVP of his own team. If this was an MVP year, I'm not sure how John Stockton doesn't have 3 trophies right now.

Awesome post VDes. Short and sweet and I def. agree with the Stockton remark. Shaq should be the MVP every year he is the league because there is not one player more valuable then he is.
first ricky davis now diesel......voting this year looks suspect
i'm not sure on shaq. he spent a significant portion of the year at less than 100% and wasn't the same dominating force he has been before. you could say he was coasting in a weaker, smaller conference, or that he was stepping back and letting wade develop. either way, i don't think we should give him the MVP when it isn't even his best season in recent years. not sure who else to give it to, though. nash is a problematic choice as well.

Absolutely. Nash put up phenomenal passing and shooting numbers this year, but for Stockton it would have been just another year at the office. Nash didn't do anything this season that Stockton didn't for about a decade. By way of comparison, Stockton only got one first place MVP vote in his entire career.
And to make matters worse, Stockton was a far superior defender. Nash put up a Stockton-type effort on one end of the floor, but on the other he was a seive whereas Stockton was strong.
Here's a list of some guys I'd definitely rank above Nash:
Shaq (should have won it)
Duncan
Garnett
LeBron
Nowitzki
Stoudemire
Marion
And a second tier of guys I'd also consider ranking above Nash:
Iverson
Wade
McGrady
Ginobili
Kobe

perfect, if john stockton was never MVP, than Steve Nash being MVP is a joke--anyone want to ask why?
http://aol.nba.com/playerfile/john_stockton/?nav=page
not only that johns tockton was on all defensive teams, he used to be top 5 every year in steals, nash doesnt even play D. Steve played grat this year, but this is a disgrace that has racial overtones.
give me the composition of the voters please.
Shaq definetly deserved it in my opinion; no question here
I think Nash won because he's white, and I'm white.
Racial? HOw many of the last MVPs have been white?
I think it was shaqs to lose, but he would nurse injuries to get ready for playoffs, and rested at seasons end.
PHX had the leagues best record, and while Marion and Amare are more dominant big's, Nash was the Quarterback, the stick that stirs it, the processor, blah blah blah.
If shaq stayed in, and miami finsished strong, it was his. No doubt.
Does that make it right or wrong? It makes it more interesting!

The NBA will always promote white guys when they have the opportunity.
i voted for shaq. i hate canadians.

although nash is canadian, he has that All american Boy look, hey stern is a master marketer, and this was a great chance for the NBA to have a white MVP in a league starved for white stars. Plain and simple. Nash was a clear second place MVP candidate, but shaq changed the powers of two confrences by just switching teams, now the east is favored to win its second Championship, just because of that move alone.. I have had problems with the way stern has manipulated the league to suit his marketing schemes... I can live with this.. The suns will be eliminated in this round while shaq will play for another ring... That says enough for me...
congrats nash...
Isiah should have been the runner up. Without him, Nash never would have become a member of the Suns.
I think when StumpBury read Nash got MVP he must have run and vomited in the garden! This guy can't catch a freaking break.
PHx decided they want to run and play euro ball so they got players who can run, and a Euro coach to run it. Very fundamsntal.
We decide to get younger, shorter and more athletic by playing our veterans!
We must buy out Penny !
In my opinion, Shaq and Duncan are the most deserving MVP candidates, but I think that the main factor in giving the award to Nash was the Suns' turnaround. They had Stoudemire and Marion on their roster last season and they were a lottery team. Nash arrives and they have the best record in the NBA so he certainly made his teammates better.
I think Allen Iverson deserves some serious considreration as well.

I mean couuld they mention his name at least? His team is in the playoffs and he is the reason. Without him they are easily one of the worst teams in the league.
Steph should be all the more determined next year. I hope this inspires him to elevate his game to superstar status.
