NBA · It looks like Minnesota are gonna have to trade KG (page 1)

firefly @ 7/11/2005 4:11 PM
They have 7 players under contract next year. Their starting 5 looks like

Cassell
Hassall
Szczerbiak
KG
Olowokandi

with Hudson and Hoiberg on the bench. Oh yeah and Ndudi Ebi.

But what can they get in return? Cap room? Talent? You decide.
TMS @ 7/11/2005 4:15 PM
how does having 7 players under contract force Minnesota to trade their franchise player? don't you think it would make alot more sense for them to trade guys like Cassell & Sczerbiak instead?
CTKnicksfan @ 7/11/2005 4:20 PM
Don't forget McCants

What can they get for those guys? Minnesota needs to use the exemption and hope they can get two players for Wally or Sam which ain't happening.

They should really consider trading KG....they could get 3 good player easy.

My thoughts exactly. They are in really bad shape though. Another lottery season is on the horizon and it will be much worse than last year. They are a franchise in trouble.

so let me get this straight...since Cassell & Wally aren't high on team's wish lists, they should give up their franchise player to fill the roster quota? do the Knicks have to trade Marbury now too since they now have several players under contract & no one wants TT, Penny or Mo T? what kind of logic is that?

should they consider trading KG? maybe...if it will get them a couple of young studs that can help form their core for the next 10 years...if not, what sense does it make for them to trade away 1 of the top 3 players in the game?

In this case, TT and Sweetney for Garnett should work. It will help them fill more roster spots!

Look, I wasn't saying that they need to trade KG because of a lack of players. What I was saying was, because of the serious lack of talent behind him, they are not going to be able to get him enough help to make any sort of impact in the playoffs, or even get to them for that matter. Therefore they can either keep him, while he gets older and they get worse, wait until they can stock up on talent using what little cap space they have after KG's 22 mm per, or they can take the sensible route, trade him for a few good pieces, and find themselves in a far better position a year from now.

This is no indication of wether they value KG or not, it would be the same with any player. If the Bulls had had Jordan and noone else, they wouldn't have won any championships. One man alone cant do it. So they can either rot in mediocrity a la Knicks, or make a proactive move, ship KG out for some good young talent/picks/cap space, with an eye for the future.

I think it's the only sensible thing for them to do. In fact, they should have realized this would happen when they depended on two 33 yr olds for their supporting cast last year. That gave them a one year window to succeed, they didn't, now they have to start again. Having one of the best players in the game will not help them right now, unless they can get other good players in to help.
firefly @ 7/11/2005 6:18 PM
Fact is, and im speaking hypothetically here, if we offered them huge cap space (i,e, TT and Penny) plus all the picks we can possibly giove them, plus say, Crawford and Sweetney, even Ariza at a push, they would have enormous cap space in time for guys like Yao etc. They would have a core of nice young players via the draft and via trades, and they would be in a great position for the Greg Oden sweepstakes. Now thats rebuilding in one year.

As opposed to keeping KG, having no cap space next year, and having to scrap in the doldrums of the West cuz they cant afford to find anyone to play with him. See my point?

Yeah this is what I mean you maniac. Why else would anyone trade KG.....

As an example Miami traded Caron, Odom, and Brian Grant for Shaq. That isn't bad.

Minnesota has no one on the team besides KG. KG's contract is killing them on top of that Celtic reject GM they have is a retard.

Remember the big thread we had on this? With all the youth and redundant contracts the Knicks have now.....Can the Knicks get KG? Timmy and Penny alone could bring them under the cap and that is what they would need to rebuild that franchise.
EnySpree @ 7/11/2005 8:25 PM
Tim, Mo Taylor, and Crawford for KG, Wally, and Hoiberg works on Real GM.

Maybe the Knicks throw in a future 1st rounder for 2006.

Just throwing that out there......I would be looking to get under the cap if I was Minnesota. They need to start over fresh.

Successful Scenario
Due to New York and Minnesota being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. New York and Minnesota had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

With them drafting McCants over Green. It shows that they probably want to keep KG. Or trade him for another stud straight up and not prospests and ending salary.

The thought of Sam and Marbs would reduce concession sales of food at the garden plumet.
