that's a huge exaggeration. The Nets won 9 more games than the Knicks last year and barely squeezed into the playoffs. The 96-97 Knicks won twenty-four more games than last year's Knicks and were a championship contender.
Lets not bring that team up. Approaching 10 whole years later, that season is still a sore subject for me. We could have won it if it weren't for the brawl. We had EVERYTHING in order to beat the Bulls. Defense inside and out, shooters, interior offense, penetrators. shotblocking, enforcers, leadership, talent, depth, youth, Ewing in his prime, LJ barely passed his prime, Houston before entering his prime, Starks coming off the bench, everything. Don't wanna ever hear the '96- '97 Knicks ever again.
So instead of building an All-Star team (which BTW, I nthink would be wrong...Kidd needs the Ball in his hands to make things Happen and Jefferson and Carter needing like 20 shots per game each) Rahim may not have been the best fit for them IMO. I think they are building a team the right way....they have their scorers and are now looking to fill in the gaps, considering almost everyone in the leagu is not healthy enough to play for them...I think the Chicago Bulls reference is very accurate.
I don't get all the laughing. Teams sign guys like Padgett all the time. Nets signed Padgett. Everyone acts like they think he'll be the key to the season and he'll get 35 mins a game. He'll be a back up to Antonie Wright and will get like 5-12 mins a game. Nets already have there 9 man rotation they just looking to patch up a few spots. Every team does it.
MX, I agree with you 100%...not every signing has to be a homerun.
