Knicks · Start of a new era... (page 1)

LongIslandKnicksFan @ 10/17/2005 12:38 PM
I didn't really recollect my thoughts to think about it, but this is the start of a new Era. I can see Lee being what he is compared to... An Oakley type player, and then we have Curry, as our Patrick Ewing, Nate Robinson as our John Starks, Jamal Crawford as our .... Derek Harper? lol Who would you compare each player to in the early 90's to the guys of today?
HARDCOREKNICKSFAN @ 10/17/2005 1:22 PM
With the News of Allan's retirement, it really is a new era.

Those comparisons sound okay, but where does Stephon fit in?
Nalod @ 10/17/2005 1:38 PM
Please, no more comparisions to the Pistons or the old knicks!

Espeically the old knicks! THey were good, but not good enough. Plus its just no fair to them.

Besides, you can't just take one squad and compare it to ten years of teams. Like Rolando did not play with Spree as just one example.

HOw many times we gonna do the: channing is Camby, Eddie is Ewing, Butler is eddie lee wilkins, or Steph is Starks, Lee is (fill in white guyjonly)..........

How about we compare Scott Sterlings 1980s sucko knicks with Laydens sucko knicks?
HARDCOREKNICKSFAN @ 10/17/2005 2:10 PM
Nalod, it's just that fans are happy to see something that can be as good (but hopefully better)than the last classic squads.

No need to compare to LayDown's roster- this team is so far above and beyond those dark days, it's not even worth the mention!

Don't worry, be happy!

What Era will this be called when the Basketball junkies write their books?

HA!

what is it about that game that is indeed so compelling? it's like that male need to classify and categorize everything, remember that john cusack movie of a few years ago or the famous scene in diner?

pretty soon we'll be doing that with posters - hey, bobs is playa, right, and knight is TMS, and . . .

EnySpree, enough with this pic already.
EnySpree @ 10/17/2005 2:24 PM
You gotta admitt Martin it fits!!!

This is the Age of Isiah!!!
nixluva @ 10/17/2005 2:32 PM
I'm glad that Isaiah has given us a fresh new team to root for. I was TOTALLY down and out by the middle of 03-04. We had NOTHING and no hope for the forseeable future. I couldn't take it.

Then once we got rid off Layden, I felt a little better and from then on even with the disappointment of last year, i've been more and more happy with the things Isaiah was doing. Now i'm extatic. We've got something to look forward to over the next few years and it feels good.
Allanfan20 @ 10/17/2005 2:45 PM
we have Curry, as our Patrick Ewing

Ohhhh Heeeeeeeeeeeell nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Lee compared to Oakley, I think is also a bad comparison b/c I see Lee as more skillful and more athletic. A lot more athletic actually.

I still don't see how people can compare Channing to Camby either. 2 completely different players. Channing, though tall, lanky and athletic, is a lot more controlled on both ends. On defense, Camby was more of a guy for the help defense and played the passing lanes. And Channing is more skillful offensively. A LOT more skillful actually. 2 completely different players.
LongIslandKnicksFan @ 10/17/2005 2:49 PM
I'm not comparing them totally. Ewing was a WARRIOR. Curry is nowhere close to that yet. Curry, in my eyes in the next franchise center for the Knicks. They don't come very often. So that is why I made the comparison. Curry will never be as great as Ewing, but he is a solid contributor and GOOD OFFENSIVE center, which is something the Knicks have lacked since Ewing left.
Allanfan20 @ 10/17/2005 2:52 PM
Curry = loafer, on both ends truthfully. Lets see him get in good shape. But for now, Eddie Curry's name shouldn't be placed in the same sentence as our last franchise center. Patrick Ewing. Curry has to get in shape, show that he's committed on both ends to prove he's our franchise center. IMO, he's no shoe in.

Outside NY and many media personalities hold the same opinion about Ewing. Hell ask Marv Albert and Frazer what they really think about Ewing. Ewing to me was the greatest Knick of all time because for many years that man went out and just played his heart out. No pun intended but I think Curry is more about being comfortable rather than winning right now. Hopefully that will come in time. Shaq is about both, Duncan is about both. I agree with Shaq that Curry has all the potential to succeed him as the best post player in the league but it will take a serious change of personality for Curry.

HARDCOREKNICKSFAN @ 10/17/2005 3:08 PM
I see it as Curry's work ethic moreso needing improvemnt, as opposed to a personality change. He's got the best coach in the biz working with him, and I'm sure Larry won't ease the effort working on Curry's game without seeing significant improvement in his defensive desicionmaking, spacing and rebounding.

While Curry doesn't yet deserve any comparison to Ewing, the hope is that he'll get at least close to that level.

Curry makes things look too easy sometimes. He did show his confused side yesterday.....I hope Larry can get him to stop looking confused and just dominate. He is scary....the kid is huge and quick.....like a wild bear!

He has to figure out how to be effective even when he is not 100% on his game. Ewing and all the good centers did that. If Ewing wasn't really into it he would turn around jumper you to death. Maybe that's it.....dude just needs a go to move.
Allanfan20 @ 10/17/2005 3:42 PM
Yup, usually something real simple like a nice turn around jumper or baby hook. When all else fails, you always have that.
Bonn1997 @ 10/17/2005 3:44 PM

I like how you did that! You came dangerously close to putting the names in the same sentence but cleverly avoided it! I guess I'm a little too bored at the moment!

LOL. Apparently that Bonn1997 guy had a great sense of humor even back in 2005!

12+ years and we're still waiting for the start of the new era!
nixluva @ 1/17/2017 10:54 AM
I disagree with this notion that we're still waiting for the New Era! It's already here and just waiting to fully emerge. Once we drafted Ewing it didn't immediately lead to a finals appearance. We just drafted KP and the coming draft will bring new players as well. No matter what this year's team does the New Era will continue to emerge by natural causes.

I still remember how I felt during the last days of the Layden Era and it was bad. I didn't see any hope at all. At least now we know we drafted KP and he has so much upside. We know we have ALL OF OUR PICKS going forward. It won't be hard to make the switch to a youth movement around KP.
