NBA · OT - sweets is motoring on... (page 1)

djsunyc @ 11/7/2005 10:39 PM
mike sweetney has 8 points and 11 rebounds in 14 mins...all on tim duncan.

again, we're looking at the same story as he races downcourt and establishes post position but doesn't get the ball.

GET HIM THE BALL!!!
CrashDMB237 @ 11/7/2005 10:47 PM
Why do people only create topics when he plays well? Did anyone point out that hes averaging 1 foul every 4 and a half minutes this season?

until he drops 20/10, we already have him replaced BIG TIME.
NYK3 @ 11/7/2005 11:05 PM
and TT is still a heartless bum...Gordon hit a game-tying shot with about 20 seconds left and TT got up emotionless as if he couldnt care at all and didnt give anyone a high five or anything
knicksmsg33 @ 11/7/2005 11:10 PM
he is doing good 10pts and 13rebs

he is very capable of this or close per night
BRIGGS @ 11/8/2005 1:07 AM
sweetney is a good basketball player, its not like we gave up junk. sweetney has played very well for the bulls, both in pre-season and regular so far.
Rich @ 11/8/2005 1:10 AM
He's a good role player.

Are you kidding? He shot around 35% in the preseason and didn't make up for it in any other aspects of his game.

Agreed. Bulls fans are getting excited over Sweetney already. I've seen many predictions of him putting up 14/9 or more this year. He's a nice player for them (I'm still glad to have Curry). TT, however...
Bonn1997 @ 11/8/2005 2:17 AM
14/9 would be a little surprising. He came into camp with the exact same out of shape body he had last year. It's possible but it's probably his ceiling unless he gets in shape. I'd be much more concerned about how many points he gives up than how many he scores, though. (Same with Curry.)

That's fair. Both need to work on defense. I think both are in systems that are focused on defense, so either one not doing their part will have problems. So far, the Bulls fans have only good things to say about Sweetney (aside from a few fat jokes) from what I've heard. I do wish him well. Tim Thomas, on the other hand, is getting 100% fugazy reviews.

rvhoss @ 11/8/2005 9:44 AM
i'd much rather have Curry. If he out stats curry, it's LB's doing...we all know sweets can draw the foul, and that's the same as making the bucket, but curry makes the bucket (well, when he makes it he does) I miss sweets ft%, but frye has a pretty good touch as well.

Curry Frye >= Sweet Kurt by a HUGE MARGIN
and we got rid of TT and gained a Q

Isn't zeke good?

bonn, please do not use pre-season stats when talking about players. it's pretty much a moot point. you can use pre-season to see how they play, fit in with the system, positioning, etc. but the stat aspect makes no sense. if that was the case, then jerome james was a bust the minute he put on a knicks' uni and these 3 games just solidifed the fact.
Allanfan20 @ 11/8/2005 10:10 AM
I rarely see a rookie who IS good at defense from the start. It takes awhile for these guys to get adjusted defensively, and a lot of them never do. The defense will come for Sweetney, and Curry for that matter. But Sweetney does more good than bad when on the court. Clogs the middle, scores at will when given the ball (Or at least gets to the line) rebounds well and hustles. A lot of people say Sweetney is a bust. A lot of people are also idiots.

Fair enough. I was just hoping Briggs had something--anything--to support his idea that Sweetney played well in the preseason. He looked bad when I watched.

This calls for a little perspective: If Sweets plays 21 minutes (his season average) in his next game (Wednesday vs. Golden State), he'd have to commit 35 fouls to equal Jerome James' average of one foul per every 1.8 minutes.
CrashDMB237 @ 11/8/2005 10:49 AM
Yea but whose sticking up for Jerome James? Certainly not me. In fact if I could, I'd take Sweetney back if it was straight up for Jerome James.

Yeah, I don't get the point of the Sweetney vs. James comparison
