Wizards Buy Out Atkins
18th January, 2006 - 3:05 pm
Press Release - Washington Wizards President of Basketball Operations Ernie Grunfeld announced today that the Washington Wizards and guard Chucky Atkins have agreed to a buyout of Atkins’ contract.

“Chucky is a veteran player who is in the last year of his contract," said Grunfeld. "He has been a real professional and this will allow him an opportunity to look for a situation that will give him the playing time that he desires."

In 28 games with the Wizards this season, Atkins averaged 6.7 points and 2.5 assists in 19.7 minutes per game. [READ]

he'll probably end up with memphis since unless we cut someone.
bigpimpin @ 1/18/2006 3:13 PM
i had Chucky Atkins on my fantasy team last year. I kinda knew he was a bum when the only category that he helped me with was "three point attempts".

That's bad, aint it.
djsunyc @ 1/18/2006 3:28 PM
big - same thing with me and jerome james. the only category he helped me in was "triple whoppers eaten"
gunsnewing @ 1/18/2006 4:24 PM
any chance he signs with us for a minimum? he's an excellent 3pt shooter. He might be the best we can do
jaydh @ 1/18/2006 4:25 PM
we dont need chucky. with marbs healthy, where is he going to get his minutes?

he'll take some minutes from Q and Nate. He does one thing neither crawford, Q & nate do consistently and that is hit open 3's

i dont see how nate isnt a consistent 3pt shooter.

Surprising. Atkins averaged 14 PPG and 4 APG last year. I didn't think he was a washed up vet. I thought he could still play.
crzymdups @ 1/18/2006 4:52 PM
wow. If Marbury is out for any kind of extended stretch, I would say cut Qyntel immediately and sign Chucky for the rest of the season.
Nalod @ 1/18/2006 4:52 PM
One midget per team. No more.
crzymdups @ 1/18/2006 4:53 PM
Chucky also played well for Larry in Detroit, didn't he?
gunsnewing @ 1/18/2006 5:13 PM
I'm backing off. No to Atkins eventhough he makes better decisions than Nate. Too similar and redundant

Was that negotiated in the new collective barganing agreement? If so, Knicks must have been given a waiver because they have the smallest starting backcourt in the NBA
EnySpree @ 1/18/2006 6:28 PM
Hey guys.....Atkins has trade value....why did they buy him out? They could have gotten something for him....

This has got to be one of the dumbest moves. I would have tried to get something...a second round pick or something.
Rich @ 1/18/2006 7:27 PM
I would expect him to be a Knick somehow.
