Oh sh!t.

My cuz is planning to go to Europe this summer and asked me if I culd come along.

Damm, if I caught them this summer that would be AMAZING.

And dude -- I'm not as much of a music historian, but on Amazon even it has Use your Illusions from 1998...

I could be wrong though. I was born in 86, so most of the GNR stuff I hear is dated...
bobs3304 @ 2/16/2006 8:31 PM
GNR is like Zepplin mixed with like Metallica.

Just wanted to throw that out there -- anyone think thts a good comparison?

Caz Axl sounds alot like Plant at times, and then add in the grunge...

All right I'm way out of my league with this genre of music, but would you also say they have a little AC/DC thrown in?

I agree but tell that to a diehard Zeppelin fan and he'll want to cut your throat lol

GN'R where the considered the Stones of their era. It's unfortunate they had such a short run. of course it's definitely not too late to do something about that
bobs3304 @ 2/16/2006 8:38 PM
acdc has alot of the same sound sometimes, but their personality is SOO much different.

i'd say they have some linkin park in them too.

or maybe its the other way around.....

I always think of GNR as that bridge between hair metal and grunge music
bobs3304 @ 2/16/2006 8:40 PM
did gnr and nirvana ever play together?

definitely as well as the beatles, alice cooper, aerosmith, Queen, bowie, sex pistols, new york dolls, ramones. Those were their main influences being born in the 60s

yep, they paved the way for the grunge movement. At the time they were the only rock band that went against the grain. They refused to make music that was trendy at the time just to make a money. They played music they grew up on and happened to get lucky. You bring 5 guys from all different backgrounds and talents, barely making ends meet, lots of sex drugs and rock n' roll and you get Appetite For Destruction. The biggest selling hard rock record of all-time

Since Slash and Monkey man are gone there are no G'n'R and no Knicks

at the MTV music awards in 92 where Kurt Cobain decided to spit on Axl's piano(so mature lol). Only it was Elton John's piano who was accompaning guns n' roses in a performance of November Rain. GN'R were very big fans of Nirvana around 91 until Cobain started saying bad things about gnr being bloated which they were to an extent. I dont't think they ever toured together but GN'R did tour with Soundgarden(great band!)

bobs3304 @ 2/16/2006 9:09 PM
hey guns ---

you have any recordings on your comp. of that nirvana/gnr performance?
nyk4ever @ 2/16/2006 9:13 PM
Wow, it's great to see theres others that are as big of GnR fans as me and Guns are. I had the same reaction as you did Bobs to the demo, I listened once and was like its ok but then I kept listening and man its amazing and thats only a DEMO. Axl sounds better then ever on it and as much as I spite Buckethead, his solo at the end of IRS is pretty damn good.

Chinese/Isiah Democracy starts now!
Marv @ 2/16/2006 9:13 PM
All right I'll test you guys on some old-time rock - who knows of a band called Mountain, out of NY in the 60's, lead guitarist and singer was a guy named Leslie West. Unbelievable kick-ass rock. Anyone know them?

never heard of them but i'll have to check them out. I grew up listening to rock oldies from the 50s and early 60s. like fats domino, chuck berry, elvis, Drifters, Dion, Buddy Holly, Ben E. King, Sam Cooke, Platters, Bobby Darin, frankie lymon
