NBA · Darko's a great shotblocker! (page 1)

Bonn1997 @ 3/18/2006 9:03 AM
I had no idea of this from his play in Detroit. I thought he was just a softie. He's averaging 2 blocks a game in his last 12 games and he only plays about half the game. He and Dwight combined for ten blocks yesterday (4 and 6).
EnySpree @ 3/18/2006 10:00 AM
He was doing that in pre-season and whenever he played the garbage minutes in Detroit. Dude can definately block shots. The guys in detroit said he could play but was just buried in the depth chart. Orlando's gain.....Detroits loss.
McK1 @ 3/18/2006 10:01 AM
picked up Darko on both my fantasy teams after the trade

any given night I'm getting 2-4 blocks 2 or 3 assists a few rebounds and a steal from Darko as well as 8-10 pts in his 20 min a night.
bigpimpin @ 3/18/2006 11:26 AM
darko milicic was the 2nd player drafted overall in the NBA draft the year he came out.

Lebron, Wade, and Carmelo were taken in the mix.

And you mean to tell me that there is actually someone who finds joy in the fact that he can block shots

hahahahahaha

Detroit ain't got time to cultivate young men when there is real work to be done.

The dude is young, inexperienced, and is now in the right place to get minutes.

Why do you care where Detroit drafted him? I'm sure Orlando doesn't care

Darko with Orlando and Detroit in comparison with J O'Neal in Portland and Indiana? I'm not saying Darko is AS talented as JO, but he's still proving that he can be a very valueable piece to a team, and I'm not talking in terms of trade assets. If he keeps improving and getting the playing time, D & D could be a pretty forceful frontcourt.

PS: Maybe Darko only plays half the game, but he sure as in hell is lucky, b/c he wasn't playing ANY of the games in Detroit.
bigpimpin @ 3/18/2006 6:18 PM
Bonn, it was to say that the guy is a BUST.

You can sugar-coat it 100 different ways, but the guy is a BUST.

he is Lampe.
McK1 @ 3/18/2006 6:30 PM
he's not Lampe. It just didn't work out for him in Detroit

Milicic can play.
simrud @ 3/18/2006 6:31 PM
Even if he "can play" he is still a bust, you don't just play if you are a top 5 pick. You better be a franchise player.
McK1 @ 3/18/2006 6:33 PM
where was he going to play on a back to back Finals team?

Orlando is rebuilding. they can afford the minutes and he is showing the skill that got him taken at 2.

Thank You! Some people just don't seem to get it.

He was "hype". In a sense, he was Lampe. What part of that do you not understand McK1?
McK1 @ 3/18/2006 6:36 PM
I get what you're saying.

And in my opinion next year you same people will be LOL'ing Joe Dumars for giving up Darko.

Maybe Dumars could no longer stomach watching Darko. You ever thought about that? No, but seriously -- everybody can't be telling the same lie. the kid is soft. You can't be soft in an NBA paint.
McK1 @ 3/18/2006 6:55 PM
Darko didn't fit their vision of a center; he wants to handle out on the perimeter, they wanted him in the post.

McK1 @ 3/18/2006 7:00 PM
Fun Fact (and back to the point of this thread):

in 13 games with Orlando Darko has 33 blocks.

in 54 games with NY Curry has 45 blocks.

in 63 games with NY Frye has 43 blocks.

Even if he "can play" he is still a bust, you don't just play if you are a top 5 pick. You better be a franchise player.

Then: Eddie Curry, Stephon Marbury, Steve Francis = Bust.

And so many other top 5 picks as well.

oohah

Exactly. My guess is most top 5 picks don't turn out to be franchise players. Maybe half turn out to be all-stars. Bottom line is I'd love to have Darko on our team.

simrud @ 3/18/2006 11:23 PM
To this point Eddie Curry is a bust. And so is Marbury. And ohneslty so is Francis. It comes down to winning. If a high lottery pick doesnt bring glory to the team that picked him, he a bust for that team. Will he someday turn around his career? Mabye.
