Israel rounded up members of the Hamas-led Palestinian government Thursday, and warplanes fired a rocket into the Palestinian Authority's Interior Ministry building in Gaza City.

Early Friday, Palestinian and Israeli sources said offices of President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah Party were also hit in an airstrike. Details of the attack were not immediately available.

The Israeli military said it targeted the Interior Ministry building because it was being used for "directing and planning terror activities." There were no immediate reports of casualties, but the building was in flames. (Watch images from the aftermath of the strikes -- 7:02)

Several other airstrikes hit in and around Gaza City about 2:30 a.m. Friday. Targets hit included a Hamas training camp and what the Israeli military said was a weapons storehouse. The raids knocked out power to some parts of the territory not blacked out Wednesday, when aircraft took out the main power plant before Israeli troops moved into southern Gaza.

The arrests of Palestinian Cabinet ministers and parliament members took place as the Israeli military continued its thrust into Gaza. The Israel Defense Forces says the action is part of an attempt to rescue kidnapped army Cpl. Gilad Shalit.

Israel dealt the severest political blow to Hamas since it won the Palestinian elections five months ago by arresting 64 of its ministers and parliamentarians in a series of overnight raids throughout the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

The majority of the faction's most senior political figures outside Gaza were detained in an unexpected nocturnal sweep early yesterday, which Palestinians swiftly interpreted as a move to dislodge the Hamas government and which the Group of Eight industrialised countries said raised " particular concerns".

See Nalod and Simrud, Israel is all about peace. 1 guy gets kidnapped and the cut off power and bomb which is sure to cause death and misery for 10's of thousands; especially the most vulbnerable like the elderly and the very young.

Israel, a beacon of peace.

Israel cares about the lives of every single one its people. They reacted, especially here. That region was so close to some kind of peace when the Hamas led government ruined everything.

Iceland seems like a very peaceful country--many of the Scandanavian countries are quite passive. Everyone is beautiful in Iceland--its almost unbelievable.
Israel is perpetually on the defensive. The cournties that surround Israel do not realize the state and call for it's anhilation. Jews are known as Zionists. So is it possible that Israel HAS to show strength? Of course it does. These people do NOT want ANY Jews on this Earth--so what should Israel do? It isnt about one soldier or one incident.

And by the way, Israel could literally wipe ALL of it's neighbors off the map quite quickly.
