Meds!
They probably will prescribe you vicodine. That shit will have you bobbin like a heroin addict, no lie.
I had my girl home with me and she sucked as far as help. I actually went my first 2 days without the vicodine! Talk about crying and cursing out loud! She was giving me tylenol with codine. That shit was like skittles to me.
Trust me as soon as you get the prescription have someone put it in for you. When you get home you will be high on the hospital meds for a few hours or maybe till you get to sleep.
Damn man, you will definately need those pills! I found that 1 pill wasn't enough. I was taking two just so I can get up and do things, and sleep. Be carefull cuz those things are addictive. When you start taking them you will start to enjoy the effects. Lol. Enjoy the ride man. It will definately be something you will think about all the time.
Good luck with the surgery. Make sure those mofos label the correct leg! My docs came in and marked my leg and double and quadruple checked. Before I went in
I mentioned it again, lol.
The whole experience is gonna be a great story to tell your grand kids one day.
get well brother. hope to hear you are back on your feet soon.
on a brighter-note: med induced sleeps have you looking like Beetle Bailey under a tree.

Killa,
- Get a shower stool. Showering can be very dangerous.
- If you don't have metal crutches get some, they are lighter and I found them easier to use.
- Get canned drinks and food you can put in a knapsack from the fridge to the bed, crutches make it impossible to carry anything.
I'll see if I can think of anymore stuff that might help, but that is what immediately comes to mind.
oohah
Yeah I'll have to get a shower stool.
I have metal (aluminum I think) cruthes, they're pretty light.
will have to remember the backpack thing, I've been using a plastice bag to transport things. I can wrap it around my fingers while I use the crutch, but I can put way more things in a backpack than a plastic bag. Thanks man, I never realized how hard it is to use crutches before. My arms will be very strong before this is all said and done. I guess I can feel good about that at least.

it's just temporary--mcdyess is back with the same thing:>) think about this< i cant use my right arm and my left hand started developing arthritis bad enough that kept me from posting for about 3 weeks going back a few months ago. there was a couple of days i was tempted to use my nose:>) a little more meds and my left hand is OK--- you will be 100% and back on the court in no time. rehab strong and you will be fine.
Your nose?!?!? ROFL!!! You need one of those voice activated typing programs!! Thanks man, I plan on rehabbing very hard, but not getting out on the court any sooner than they tell me to. I'm actually in no rush to get on the basketball court, I'd just liketo get to a point where I can move around decently. If it takes me a year to get back on the court, thats the least of my concerns. I just want to follow all of the rehab directions, and eat well so I don't become a fat(er) pig than I am. I was trying to get into some decent shape.

I have vicodin, I have the pills right in front of me. But my wife doesn't want me to take it because its habit forming. I'm not hurting yet, so Im not taking anything. I'm not big on getting high, until its necasary, and I do realize it will be, right after they cut my leg.
It's so sad the gods punished you for supporting Marbury, but the universe works in strange ways. Maybe this will straighten you out.
Feel better killa!

Tell her there's some things
she can do to ease the pain. ;)
I've had a basketball-related injury before too. In college, I had a smaller, very quick guy guarding me, I faked left, faked right, and then tried to go left... but my right ankle didn't. I managed to get the shot off as I was falling, and I think it went in... however I suffered a level three sprain to my right ankle and got a hairline fracture of the 5th metatarsal. Couldn't walk for weeks (had to stay off the foot for 6 weeks, because of the fracture), and had my roommates and classmates wheeling me around campus. I even got the professors to move my classes downstairs. :P It'll get better, just takes time. Hang in there, killa.
Try not to take it buy you will definately need them the first 2 weeks.
They had me rehabing as soon as I got home. I'm sure they have you a sheet of paper listing what they want you to do at home. Do it.
Oh yeah physical therapist will kill you everyday you step in their office. Prepare to work. After you get full range of motion its all strength training from there.
Like I said man my knee is still not ready for basketball. I guess I will be soon but I haven't played a real game in so long my ego won't allow me to play unless I know I can represent Brooklyn to the fullest! I play one on one with my son that's about it.
Oh baby damn the rain! Your knee will be like dopler 7. You will be tracking storms better than Sam champion! In other words when it rains you will feel it before it happens, and your knees will be singing till the storm passes.
Peace brother. Stick a pad in that back pack so you can keep those lyrics fresh!
Def learn how to walk down the stairs on cruches by yourself. Its possible, I was on cruches for 3 months with 2 torn ligaments in my ankle, and learning how to walk anywhere with cruches def helped.
Also, make sure you put pads on the cruches, you know the parts that go under your armpits. I can't stress how important that is. The ones they give will feel at first, but then you'll realise that walkin on them for 5 mints and 20 mints are different things.
The backpack advice is real big too. BUT, don't make it too heavey cause it can throw you off balance.
One final thing, as you get good with cruches, you'll be suprised how fast you can go on them, I used to race people on crutches in the hallways back when I was on them, it was a lot of fun. Also, its a good workout for your arms. Figurd I'd put some nice things about crutches in there to make you feel better.
Most importantly though, don't come off of them too early. It will only extend the recovery.

Yeah Eny, I remember you blowing your knee a while ago, wasn't it threlated to the acl ? How are you doing now ?
Raven,
My knee is regular. My quads are still noticeably smaller than my good leg though, and my knee still doesn't feel ready for the game of basketball. As long as its not raining I'm normal. I still can't hit top speed on a sprint, buy I can st least run across the street if I needed to.
I'm trying to get it in basketball condition. Man, for me its tough cuz I work nights and spend a lot of time traveling to work. Add the kids and I can't get in the gym the way I really want to. Like I said I have been playing one on one with my 11 year old son and have been taking it to him pretty rough. I'm anxious to take on someone my size.
I'm doing aight though. I look at it as a journey. It took me a while to get fat and out of shape so its gonna take just as long for me to get it back. I plan on playing ball again this winter at the ymca, and try to build that and try to enter a basketball tourney next summer. That is my goal. I don't think ill be able to do it but its worth a try to are how far I can go.
Good luck to killah.
