magglio homer. season over.
effing sucks
was lidle seriously not an option today? I would hesitate to bring wang back on three days rest, but with the season on the line....wright is the guy you go to war with? sigh.
Game's not over yet, but the signs from the past two games should have been quite ominous.
One wonders how much this team is beginning to resemble the Texas Rangers of the late 90's early 00's. Killer lineup & inconsistent/unreliable pitching. However, when the playoffs showup if that killer lineup goes up against top pitching performances it becomes nullified.
One interesting thing is that one wonders if it was a mistake for the Yankees/Torre to over-react to criticsms that the team had to come out and swing earlier in the count to counter the Tigers getting ahead in the count in the first few games. That goes against the way the Yanks have been winning. However, what it shows is that if your team pitching is ON, and your hitters have to constantly bat behind in the count, it becomes VERY VERY hard for even top hitters to match the pitchers.
To me, the Tigers are winning this series because their pitchers in games 2, 3 & 4 have come out and really caused problems for the Yanks' bats, and in games 3 & 4 Detroit has come out and whacked the Yanks starters early on. Yesterday, the hitters could do nothing. There's still plenty of game left now to turn things around, but at some point the bats have to light up and take advantage of situations that come up. We were pretty unlucky in two spots where we missed home runs to cut the lead to 1 (Bernie & I believe Posada or Damon?).

certainly seems that way. This team hasn't scored in 17 innings. The three run deficit feels like 33 runs!
Wow, what a joke performance by Wright, and more foolish hitting from "Murderer's Row & Cano."
If there is no comeback today I wonder who's a gonner from this team and who will manage.
Is Torre out? Girardi in? Pinella?
A-Rod?
I think Arod punched his own ticket out of NY this season, this week in particular.
If A-Rod is really going then to where and for who? There is NO WAY that you trade him to the Angels or Chicago unless you are getting a TOP FLIGHT PITCHING TALENT. You know that if you trade him he's gonna be MVP next year for the other team.
Wow...6-0 Tigers
I don't understand why A-Rod is the reason the Yanks can't pitch and why every other Yankee can't hit. But he's a convenient scapegoat and the message has spread like an epidemic.
Looking worse and worse by the minute! How am I supposed to enjoy next season knowing that they can crumble apart in a quick 5 game series? Oh well.

Zito is going to get 16M per for 5-6 years and he's not even an ace. I'll pass. Sign Matsuzaka from Japan.
from who? Mets are locked in, that leaves the A's and Yanks. Who's paying him that?
Boston, maybe. I've heard a lot about the Mets or Boston going for him. I mean, if the Mets don't win it all this year, you have to think they'll make one last big push before this nucleus gets too old...
Boston let Damon and Lowe go because of $$$. Both guys proven winners and big game playoff performers. But they will give Zito more money? Dont buy it for one second
Guys still think ARod wont waive a no trade? Hope he enjoys Cali... this team needs a scapegoat. (and some pitching)
Its a ashame that A-rod will indeed be the scapegoat, but the entire offense went to sleep after game one.
Torre also needs to take some heat. He made some questionable moves this series. Yanking Sheff in favor of Bernie (after a broadcaster informed him of Bernies numbers against Rogers), playing Sheff at first instead of DH, and the most puzzling thing of all is pitching Wright instead of Wang on 3 days rest. Wright hasn't been able to get past the 6th inning all yr and the bullpen is shaky at best.
This will be the 3rd time the Yanks have gone up aganist an upstart team in the playoffs and lose. Angels, Marlins and now the Tigers.
michael kay is dead on the money. The tigers came in a beaten team, a team that could not win 1 game vs the royals to win the division, they were struggling and down, and the yankees let them come in after winning game 1 and kick our azzes 3 straight games. this was pathetic, heads will roll, we should of won this series..... End of story.. time to move on to the knicks..
Okay fellas, I guess with that payroll and the Yankees getting (virtually) swept out of the playoffs, Cashman should be fired?

oohah
I dont see why... The Yankees have a braintrust that decides the philosophy of the club. Its not like the Mets where Philips or Minaya has most of the control over the direction of the club. The Yanks GM's job is to get the players the braintrust wants.
The way you judge the Yankee's GMs are less by the players and trades they make, but rather what they gave up to get them. In Cashman's case he did a good job in the Abreu deal and the ARod deal. I dont know how much $$ control he has over contracts

Huh? He didn't build this team. He only received decision making authority last October. Since then he has tried to undo the terrible decisions made by Connors and Emslie, aka George'e sycophants.
Torre, OTOH, should go.

Let's go Mets!
thats right baby get those sniveling yankee fasn out of here--go pay alfonso soriano 250mm$--the mets have mojo on their side we could use another starting pitcher somehow?? in the longer series--actually we could use 2

but there is something about thisteam---they get a lead after 5 and its game over--that is the main thing

What frustrates me is that the Yankees have been an awful playoff team all decade now and they just keep repeating their mistakes.
