And people say he shoots but doesn't pass all that often. He could of had 15ast if the Nuggets had better outside shooting. That's not bad playing with players you are unfamiliar with in Denver where the altitude makes players winded.

I usually reach definitive conclusions on one game too.

You don't need to reach any conclusion when the last 3 seasons say he's more than capable dishing the rock. We all know Philly had great players around him(rolling eyes) yet he's avg 7.5ast the past 3yrs.
NYKniCksFan87 @ 12/22/2006 11:53 PM
so your point??...dishing is good, but marbury had 8 assists for a number of years, nd how often did his teams win?
unstopaball12 @ 12/22/2006 11:59 PM
man that ten assists reminds me on how jalen rose debuted as a knick......im for sure will see the real iverson taking 25+ shots a game in a couple of games

The point is just because a player jacks up a bunch of shots doesn't mean he isn't capable or proven himself to be a ball distributor. I think Carmelo and A.I. can co-exist and sharing the rock will not be an issue.

I will wait until Marshmellow comes back to see how Iverson fits in.

You sure would rather have A.I. take those 25 shots instead of having Boykins take 23 while A.I. takes 15.

IM JUST SAYING....he reminds me of jalen rose's debut were he was a pass first guy.....sure ai gets 8 assists a game but 15 shots way too low for him

A.I. had 13ast tonight pretty impressive.
BigSm00th @ 12/26/2006 11:40 PM
i watched the entire game, you can tell he's changing his game. the man has something to prove, people tend to forget that he's the most dominant scorer of the generation, the best small guard scorer of all time, and an mvp winner.

he even said he wants melo to win the scoring title.

not sure about you fellas but i'm laying some CHEESE on the nugs to win it all. that team can score, defend, and rebound.

iverson, JR smith, melo, nene, and camby w/ najera, reggie evans (15 rebounds in 31 minutes tonight), and boykins.

i like that squad against anyone in the Association. you can't double iverson or melo, i mean, as herm edwards once said, "HELLLLLLLLLLO!?!?!?!?!!"

Yeah what has me LOL is he's passing so impressively that his teammates aren't even ready for them. He looks like a Harlem Globe Trotter out there. So far, no doubt he's making the eligible Nugget players better.

Denver will be competitive, but I don't see them winning it all- the most I think they can hope for is a western conference finals appearance.
Bobby @ 12/27/2006 9:02 AM
denver players are buying into ai already.....you guys forgot chemistry 101

13 assists with no Melo/Smith/Camby, wake up thats impressive
Solace @ 12/27/2006 10:04 AM
I'm sorry, but that assist count for someone who spends the entire game with the ball in his hands is just not *that* good. Assists are the most overrated stat, because the guys who get more touches get more assists, naturally. Maybe a stat like assists to touches ratio or something would be useful. Iverson does pass from time to time, but he is also a ball hog. It'll be very interesting how him and Melo pair up.
TMS @ 12/27/2006 10:16 AM
AI could dish out at least 12 assists every game he plays if he has the right supporting cast around him... if he puts his mind into distributing the ball once Melo comes back, watch out... whether he will or not is the question, but he's also never played w/a scorer like Melo before either... time will tell, but to say that AI is incapable of being a ball distributor is way off base... he's had plenty of double digit assist games over his career that says otherwise.

I don't think it matters the supporting cast that much with AI. I think he could have Steve Nash type assist #s if he put his mind to it and that was his focus. He just allways preferd to score. He could have easily have been racking up 12assist a game on philly the last 2 yrs if he was healthy and was focused on hit.
TMS @ 12/27/2006 3:43 PM
i don't think that's necessarily true ny... i think it has alot to do w/the teammates he's playing with... if he doesn't trust them to score after he gets them the ball & feels that the team has a better chance of winning games if he takes the scoring burden unto himself, he's not going to have that mentality... but if he's playing alongside guys like Melo, Camby & JR Smith who can all finish after he dishes to them, i think he'll be more open to being that ball distributor... plus the fact that this is probably his last & best chance to win an NBA championship for the rest of his career... we'll see if he becomes a distributor over the course of the season, but i think chances are much better now that he's got some guys on the roster that he can feel are talented scorers as well.
newyorknewyork @ 12/27/2006 3:51 PM
You just said it. He never trusted his teammates to score. But he was more than cappable of creating easiy shot for them. He is one of the most elusive players with the ball in his hands in the NBA. If his goal was to rack up assist he would have easily done so. Steve Nash racks up his assist not only because he has weapons but he focuses on it. He will dribble around all over the place attacting defenders until someone cuts or something opens up and he can make that pass. Iverson could do the same thing if thats what his focus was.
