man, if only Belicheck weren't signed on for a couple mroe seasons w/the Pats, i think he might be interested in taking over the Giants job... he & Pioli worked well together in NE while Pioli was assisting w/the GM duties (though it's said that Belicheck was the guy who had more of the control there... not sure how he would handle having Pioli acting as his boss essentially now).
another interesting note is that Pioli is actually married to Parcells' daughter... not sure if that means anything for Giant fans, but you have to wonder if Parcells doesn't return to DAL for next season, returning to the Meadowlands to close out his career would be an ideal move for him, especially since we already have the talent to win for the most part & he wouldn't have to waste a few years building up the franchise like he had to do for the Pats, Jets & Cowboys... i have a feeling he'd take an immediate liking to guys like Brandon Jacobs & Shockey, & a little tough love for our boy Eli couldn't hurt... he needs to stop being coddled & start getting his ass kicked like Gilbride did during the game yesterday (was good to see that btw)
i have my doubts about Weiss wanting to come to NY right now... i think he'll wait a little longer & stay in Notre Dame until he returns them to national prominance (he's almost done that now, but he hasn't challenged for a title yet)
too bad Bill Cowher will probably want to take a year or 2 off before returning to the NFL... i happen to think he would be a perfect fit, both because he's a player's coach & well respected, along w/the fact that he's worked w/our defensive coordinator Tim Lewis before & had past success... i think a simple attitude adjustment is all that's needed for this team to realize their full potential... a guy like Cowher could bring the best out of veteran players, as he's proven in the past w/guys like Jerome Bettis, Hines Ward, & Greg Lloyd.
we'd probably have to get rid of Plexico though... that would be fine by me as long as they don't replace him w/TO.
I didn't notice Belicheck on there, so I voted for Cowher, since I think that is the most realistic one we can land. But is Bellicheck really going to be available? I find that hard to believe. As much as I love Parcells, and wish he had never left, he is too old, I mean how long is he going to stay? Belicheck sounds like a pipe dream, and Weiss I hear is not going anywhere.
I suspect the Giants might seriously keep Coughlin for next year, and if things don't improve significantly (a tall task given no Tiki) they go all out for Cowher, who I love, next off-season if the team doesn't do well. Personally, I'm fine with it. I wanted Coughlin gone but with Cowher as a good possiblity, and apparently not too many good options this year I think that this is the most likely scenario.
I heard Chris Mortenson on ESPN radio say that Coughlin is probably coming back, this morning.

belicheck was the first available choice Pres.
I admit, I was just looking for Cowher's name on there..haha.
I think everyone and their mother would say Belichick, but I don't think its realistic, even with all the rumors flying out there. I think its either Weis, or (gasp!) Coughlin returns with new coordinators.
All 4 of the names that are on this list have absolutely no chance of becoming the Giants head coach this upcoming season due to
A) Have contracts with teams already: parcells, bellicheck
B) Are under contract or agreement that they can't coach elsewhere or can leave.
My first choice would be Kirk Ferentz, the Head Coach of Iowa.
i just think these players had completely tuned Coughlin out ever since the Chicago Bears' game & were playing for their own pride the last 2 games... u can see it in the way they yell back at him now when Coughlin goes into his hysterics (like last night when he had no clue that the dead ball had been called on the Eagles' punt that pinned us back at our own 1 yard line that McQuarters went & tried to pick up like a bonehead)... this guy is just out of touch w/what's going on out there on the field... it just seems like everything he says to these guys goes in 1 ear & out the other... they consistently make the same stupid mistakes every single week... false start penalties, ridiculous personal fouls (another one yesterday when Cofield retaliated against Runyan's cheap shot, who btw shoulda been ejected.. stupid refs!)
these players need a new voice motivating them in that lockerroom... i'm tired of the players questioning the coaching & playcalls... just like the Knicks needed to get rid of all the scapegoats & excuses & the players needed to be held accountable for their play, the same holds true for the Giants... they have the talent to win in this league... they just don't know HOW to win the big games when they need to... a guy like Cowher or Belicheck could teach them that.
& i think Pres may be right about Parcells... he seems too old for this as well... he needs to go back into commentary & Cowher needs to come coach this team!

being under contract doesn't mean there's no chance they can't end up w/another team... all it means is that there will be draft picks exchanging hands in compensation (just like when Parcells left NE for the Jets for example)... on Belicheck though, since he's signed to multiple seasons past this one, there's very little chance of him ending up here.
You're honestly living a pipe dream if you think that theres any chance that Bellicheck, Parcells, Cowher or Charlie Weiss will be coaching the Giants next season. I'm dead serious.
ok, my bad... u have to forgive me today... i'm not seeing straight after that disappointing end to the season... i really thought they were gonna win that game & go on to redeem themselves in Seattle. *sigh*
as to ur selection, i don't see a college coach other than Weiss being a good choice for this franchise right now... at least Weiss has past Giant ties & also has worked w/the guy who's likely going to replace Accorsi as our GM next season, Pioli.
this team needs a coach who can handle veterans & who understands the ins & outs of the NFL.

I agree with this statement and I would like to see Charlie Weis as Giants Head Coach.
I disagree with your argument though because what makes you think he can handle the in's & outs of the NFL better than Ferentz? Sure Weis was a great coordinator for Bellicheck but how can you say he can handle it and Ferentz can't? Ferentz coached for Bellicheck as well, as Offensive Line Coach when Bellicheck was with the Browns.
btw, just to rebutt your assertion that Weiss would not consider coming here... the Falcons just hired Bobby Petrino from Louisville to be their head coach... he was just finishing the 1st year of a 10 year coaching contract... never say never

being an offensive coordinator of a super bowl winning team is alot different than being a offensive line coach w/some also ran team... but i'm not psychic & i can't say Weiss would DEFINITELY be more prepared to coach an NFL team... just my best guess.
Weis would come here I think, but the Giants will have to pay ND some large amount of cash to buy him out of his contract, and then a large amount of cash to Weis himself. Remains to be seen whether the conservative Giants org wants to empty its pockets like that. It is a new generation of ownership though.
I totally agree that Tommy boy is being tuned out. He chews guys out about missing plays when actuality Tommy boy screwed them over to begin with in preparation. That's why I love it when the guys are chewing him out right back. There are countless plays all year that was simply the coaches fault. Then they switch offensive coordinators at seasons end? Wtf?
Giants don't have the same GM. The new GM should hire a new voice. Its time to reload cuz barber his here and Eli needs help while he goes through his growing pains.
Tommy boy remains me of George bush. Anybody else get that?

yeah, i'm curious to see how the younger generation of Mara's & Tisch's will run this franchise going forward... will they remain true to tradition & be conservative a-la Wellington & Bob, or will they have a more risky & bold mentality to try & effect real change?
TMS, I agree with you. Do I think Weis would be more prepared to be an NFL head coach? He probably would be, considering, as you said, his Super Bowl exeperience, theres no disputing that. I just don't think you were giving Ferentz a fair shake, I think he's going to be a hell of a head coach in the NFL when he's ready to make that move and I surely wouldn't mind if the Giants rolled the dice on him.
As for Weis leaving ND. Of course never say never, this kind of thing happens all the time but there is a BUT. ND is Weis's alma mater, he just resigned and he just last week said he would NEVER leave ND and that he's not a liar. Of course I'm paraphrasing a bit, but that is what he said. I just can't see him leaving ND one week after saying he wouldn't leave and that he's not a liar, especially with ND being his alma mater.
Being a huge ND fan, I don't know what I'd think about that since one of my favorite teams would be getting a great coach but my college favorite would be losing a great coach. Quite a conundrum.
don't get me wrong, i'm not trying to downplay Feretz... i just don't think he's the right choice for this francise in our current situation... Weiss has close Giant ties & he has a close relationship w/our likely future GM as well... he's always maintained that the Giant head coaching job would be the 1 job he'd consider leaving ND for (according to reports i've heard on sports radio)... he makes a lot of sense from those standpoints alone... plus right now he's a guy who's well known & carries some cache... i'm not sure bringing in a lesser known name would be a good choice considering the players we currently have on this roster, unless of course the plan was to blow this up & rebuild again... i don't think the Giants need to do that... they have the talent to win, they just need the right guy to put it all together.
