Here's my recommendations:

'The Illusionist' - Was not what I expected. But very good. I'm glad it was fictional, because some of it would have been so unbelievable, but a very well written film.

'The Departed' - Very violent, but defenately great acting, great story and on the edge our your seat suspense. I think Scorsese finally did it.

'Phone Booth' - I picked this up the other night, popped it in and thought, how the hell did I miss this one. Talk about suspense. Excellent story. Definately had that 'Dog Day Afternoon' flavor to it. The sniper, Sutherland, was hallarious.

'Children Of Men' - I will tell you now, if this film had not' come out so late, I think it could have had a definate chance of winning best picture! That's how good this film is. There are elements of shocking violence in it and has a moment were you are put right in the middle of a war (very much like the war now) that was very effective.

'Jet Li's Fearless' - You'll like this one. The story of a man who once symbolized China's strength, when China was being invaded by the world, before the world became. I usually don't like sub-titles, but this film was worth it. And if you like Jet Li's Kung Fu, he puts on a terrific show. It's more of a historical story of a part of China's past, which I found so interesting, because all we get from these movies usually is kung fu, and no story.

Film's I'm waiting for to come out:

'Spider Man 3'
'Ghost Rider' (I'm a sucker for comic book movies)
'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix' (oh yeah, I'm a big fan)
'Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer'
'Oceans 13'

Anyone have any recommendations? Almost anything except bloody, psycho horror films thank you.

If you liked The Illusionist, The Prestige is even better. I agree with you on Children of Men- it's great. I also just saw Letters from Iwo Jima, which is absolutely superb. If you like "The Departed," the Hong Kong film from which its based, "Infernal Affairs," IMO is even better. Also from this year I liked "Little Miss Sunshine."

Babel is overrated and mediocre. The directors other 2 movies, 21 Grams and Amores Perros- those are the ones you want to see.

Yup, 300 does look good. Saw the previews in the theater. I might wait for the DVD though. I have too much on my plate as it is.

Damn! Really?! I haven't seen it yet. Looks like Clint might end up doing Martin once again. I heard Clint talking about his film on NPR today and I gotta say, you can't help but to have respect for the way he thinks about life. The fact was brought up about his violent films and his films now, were the characters have a conscience, some guilt of why they did it. As opposed to Scorsese's straight foreward violence. I still hope Martin finally gets that best director and best film Oscar though. LOL

Forgot to mention, Jet Lee's Fearless is his LAST movie. Appropriately, he retired after this one.

His last Kung-Fu movie. He's going to be doing more movies- more action movies either. But last one where he does pure kung-fu.

Yes, it's true. In the special features of the film, he says in his own words, 'no more'. One of he best fighters of all time, he's done. He's a student of the Dali Lama and I think life has taken on a new meaning for him. Good for him. He should get the life-time oscar. What do you guys think?

Just saw 'Ghost Rider' last night. I was a little dissapointed. It's like a yuppie took the film and tried to make a rough and tough cowboy type of story out of it. The character and the motorcycle was pretty cool, but the story, who ever wrote it, did a poor job. The Devil rep was too quiet, with no character and his offspring, Black Heart wasn't very convincing with his bad guy image. The side-burns reminded me too much of Jack Black. There was something just not right about the bad guys and the story didn't fit very well with the whole thing. Maybe it has to grow on you.

I give the film:
**

If you want to see it, save your money and rent the DVD. It's a shame to waste such a good looking character, and it's potential story on a badly written story. There needs to be a panel that scrutinizes these stories, before they go into production. Marvel has a lot of potential with the many characters they offer. My old comic books, coming to life! Love it!

Let me save you the trouble. The spartans all die. The end.

I wanted throw out a few of my own recommendations but be warned I watch a lot subtitled movies so if you hate reading subtitles just skip over my recommendations.

Apocalypto: Great action and even better message for the viewer. Anyone who is intrigued by Mayan History this is a must see for you.

The Prestige as someone mentioned above I found to be really good. Leaves the viewer with some unanswered questions and great acting by Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman, and Michael Caine.

The Descent awesome movie. Definetly one of the best horror films to come out in the past 10 years. Everything you want from a horror film element of surprise, healthy dose of terror for the characters and probably the audience, and of course some blood and gore. The most interesting part of the film is the underlying issues between the characters.

Inside Man personally I think any movie with Denzel is going to be at least half-way decent. Great thriller and Clive Owen and Jodie Foster were terrific in their roles.

High Tension: this movie is just so distrubing on many levels. To be honest I thought the movie was 8.5-9 till the ending.

Munich: Daniel Craig and Eric Bana that was enough for me to see the movie. Granted Spielberg may have taken a few artistic liberties but overall the movie was pretty powerful.

lol... no sh**... i know the story... that's like not watching a WW2 movie cuz you know how it turns out at the end.

Well, its also a bad movie. here's a review:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/con...
"300" -- the new cartoonified version of the hard day's work at the Hot Gates on the coast of Greece, where 300 stood against a million-man march of Persians--is clueless.

i fell asleep during that one... i thought it was too drawn out personally.

i'd recommend "Lucky Number Slevin" to anyone who likes movies w/a twist at the end... it stars Bruce Willis, Josh Hartnett & Lucky Liu... a bit confusing while you watch it, cuz you don't really know what's going on, but it all comes together at the end... i enjoyed it.

Saw '300' last night. It was an awsome movie. Very well made. I give it **** stars.

Now! Outside of the fantasy part of it all, the only thing that is probably true of this story, is the fact that there were approximately 300 soldiers with King Leonidas I, when they all died. Below you will find some information, several versions of what might have happened at this one event. In some literature I read, it was said that he brought about 8,000 men with him and he sent all but 300 back to Sparta. Why' he did that, I'm not clear on. Like I said, there are several versions of this story, based on very little evidence of what used to be a city. There was in fact an invasion of Persians, trying to push they're way up into the beginnings of what is now Europe and the Spartans were only a tiny, tiny fraction of people who fought them off.

As for this movie, if you want to see something cool, then this is it. Be warned, for those of you with children. This film is very gory. Lots of heads being cut off, lot's of blood flying in the air and some gory looking people, who looked more like creatures. According to what I read, it was pretty much true of the warriors being taken from their mothers and trained to fight at a very young age. I thought it was important to try and tell a little of the story, before you see the movie and judge the story of what happened, by' the movie itself.

TMS - I didn't know there was a 60's version. Hmmm, interesting.

This newest version, cinematically, it is superb!!!
