was disappointed by the XMen flick, it was slow developing & the Sabretooth that was depicted in the other XMen movies was obviously a different character than the one depicted in this one... Liev Schrieber was good in the supporting role but Gambit & the Blob were both weakly represented... i expected so much more from this movie & it didn't deliver.
Star Trek was entertaining enough, albeit a little campy... but then all of the Star Trek movies were a little campy at times so this was to be expected... the story was a little convoluted with the time travel stuff... felt almost like they worked that into the movie just so they could have Leonard Nimoy make a cameo... woulda been cooler if William Shatner made a cameo at the end for Trekkie fans... effects were decent but IMO The Wrath of Khan is still the best Star Trek movie ever made.
Agree with you on Star Trek. It was good for the nostalgia - seeing how it all began. One interesting point - Zoe Soldana played Ahura in Star Trek and also the lead in Avatar - as Neytiri. I think she did a great job in Avatar. Had just a small part in Star Trek. I hope that gets expanded in the sequel.
it was weird seeing Uhura making out with Spock... i always thought Kirk & her were doing the dirty bukkake on the Starship Enterprise... glad to see that green chick worked in tho, she was bangin'.

jazz74 wrote:tms- as far as "star trek" goes, the reason they did that whole time travel thing was to disrupt the timeline so they can do whatever they want in future stories. in essence, they could re-image wrath of khan because it is in a different time stream. so the past movies are considered fodder which infuriates trekkies but i thought was a smart move because all characters are open game to interpretations and deaths.
ah, ic... i'll be interested to see how they work this into future versions but as far as this one went, the Romulan villain Nero was kinda not developed well enough for my liking... he was almost an afterthought to the whole plot it seemed like... & how was future spock surviving by himself on that ice planet with nothing but a torch with those crazy alien beasts roaming around trying to eat him? i hate loose ends like that in movies.

Saw Sherlock Holmes last night. Waste of $$$. Not even that it was a bad movie.. it was just so... boring. And 134 minutes long. And obviously setup for a sequel which is really not giving anything away given the fact that Sherlock Holmes is a detective series.
If you need a date movie it'll do. Your chick can enjoy Downey Jr. and Jude Law.

I also liked the green chick and she was built more like the original Uhura.

Well, we should have picked up on the Spock - Uhura relationship. from this old picture.

that is the next movie that is coming in, i believe, from netflix. explain why is it hard to watch?
I don't want to spoil it for you. It is key in the story line. Involves a kid.

Just saw "The Book of Eli". Excellent movie. Definitely had an old western type feel to the movie. Denzel is really good. Gary oldman is terrific bad guy. Mila Kunis is hot. Jennifer Beals as the mother is also hot.

Yo I seen "The Road". And it was nuts and I didn't even finish it!! Man, but I don't like how so many people in that post-apocalyptic world would turn to evil things like killing and eating kids!!!! I think, in the post-apocalyptic, people would try to be friendly to survive
TMS@ 1/17/2010 7:00 PM
an alltime classic (name of the movie is "Cool as Ice")

I saw the Road to and its crazy.
The post Apocalyptic movies are actually quite tame. People get raped now in "civilized" society imagine the world in Anarchy. Kill or be killed.

I don't know. Sure, evil things happen every day but I hope this is a very small percentage of people. I want to think that 97.6% of people are good and if faced with a post-apocalyptic scenario they would come together and do good things! But was good movie. The scariest part for me was early on when the cannibals' truck broke down!
Now I think some more, and before we were "civilized" people lived in anarchy, kind of. Obviously, they came together and built everything up! So I don't know why that wouldn't be the case now or are we so thoroughly disfigured emotionally by modern life that we have become irrational evil-people at our base?
actually, now I realize that there was no sunlight and the trees were dying, right? So you can't really farm. Which means less and less pie for a bunch of people. Is that what it was? Was it just a cloudy day in the movie or was there a permanent dust cloud blocking all sunlight? Does anyone know?
orangeblobman@ 1/19/2010 7:40 AM
Yo, I seen "Chinatown", by Mr. Polanski. REALLY GOOD. They don't make 'em like that anymore, ain't that right?

There were trees just no leaves. No clean drinking water either.
I dont think most people can survive if they had to obtain their own food and water. I think many people would kill themselves rather than tough it. I'm thinking mass suicides. People can cope with gradual changes but abrupt changes would be catastrophic.

You don't they can? I think I can. What does that make me? I'm actually SURE that I will survive It's just the way it is. It's a truth.
No leaves, no water? But what about sun. Has anyone read the book? Is there sun in this scenario? It makes a world of difference.
True, abrupt changes would shock and disable most. Gradual is much easier, but not less destructive. We seem to be in a state of decline, a gradual decay; I don't envision most people I know being able to cope with this, much less cope with the truth of the situation.

Just saw "The Road". A great movie. The lengths that Vigo went to portray the father is DeNiro'esque.
I have not read the book, but the movie indicates that there was a catastrophic event that lead to the nature being destroyed. They mention a flash the everything is gone. Basically, the movie indicates that the only way one can get food is by scavenging or cannibalism.
Also, the little part for Robert Duvall was powerful. At least for me.
TMS@ 1/20/2010 11:47 PM
anybody see "Daybreakers" yet?

I didn't realize it was Duvall at first! He was so dirty and old. I remember Duvall, he say in one movie "Happiness ain't nothin' but having something to look forward to".
Alright, so we got scavenging or canibalism. That's tough, man. I would NOT want to go through that!! I don't know if I could eat another human and I definitely would not like to be eaten as a meal. So it's a tricky situation, I think. You're right Vigo was so solid and that kid was good for a kid. I might go see this in the movie theater things when it comes out, so I can get the full feel.

Just saw "Lovely Bones". Very good movie but pretty sad. Book of Eli is up next along with Legion.
