anybody have sprint mobile in the new york area? how's the service? how's their evdo connection?
i'm thinking of switching from verizon to sprint b/c their unlimited data package is much cheaper ($15 a month). so i'd like to hear the pros/cons from sprint users in the new york area.
thanks in advance.
well I had sprint in Georgia. Verizon has a much better coverage area. I was not that impressed with sprint... Bad coverage, suspect billing..
I've got sprint in NJ- its fine the coverage. Whenever I was in NYC, never really noticed an issue with coverage except when going through a tunnel- but just would roam at that point if needed.
Sprint is very good to its customers- especially when you've been with them a while.
Their data pricing is, I think, the best.
Verizon is notorious for disabling features on their phones (e.g., disabling DUN on Treo's, etc.)
You should never have a problem with their cell phone reception in NYC. In fact I have never heard of any reception problems from any cell company subscriber in the city. Sprint's EVDO is by far the best in the market right now. We have been using it as a solution for our Corporate Sales department. Verizon keep promising their next generation EVDO but it doesn't seem like its coming anytime soon.
Outside the city, you should probably go with Verizon. Sprint sucks in North Jersey by Caldwell and Roseland. But you can't go wrong with Sprint in the city.
EDIT: Verizon has already launched the Rev A. http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/wireless/verizon-to-bloggers-idiots-revision-a-evdo-is-already-on-221941.php

thanks. verizon is like $40 a month while sprint is only $15. i'm going to be using it for the web and my slingbox. so i think i'm going to make the jump from verizon. thanks.
i just switched to Cingular from Verizon... the reception is better in Northern Jersey funny enough... haven't had any problems anywhere in the city either.
plus their phones are so much better than the crap choices Verizon provides, & you operate on GSM 4 quad band instead of CDMA, so you can use the phone world wide by switching out your SIM card.

I used to be a verizon customer before switching to Cingular. Cingular is awesome like TMS said. I went to London recently and it was easy for me to switch sim cards when I was there. The only thing I have to say is that I have so many roll-over minutes that doesn't get used.
