Off Topic · OT: LOL - VERY liberal use of the word SALE (page 1)

Solace @ 3/21/2007 12:34 PM
So, I'm at work and I saw on the coffee bar someone left a number of papers advertising a Power Mac G4 for "SALE". It says 2 GB Ram, 133 Ghz bus (she meant Mhz, LOL), comes with a crappy printer and 2 ink cartridges. She wants $1800 or best offer. LOL, are people serious? This is a 6 year old computer and costs more than a new Mac, I believe. I had to hold it in to not go back and write "RIPOFF" on all the pages. Ridiculous. A used Mac G4 is worth what? $300 maybe?

Hit me with feedback. I'm not a Mac user, so I don't know too much about them, but that's a 6 year old computer around 600/700-ish Mhz, right?

s**t. so you're saying i could have gotten her down to 1700??
TMS @ 3/21/2007 12:41 PM
she probably meant to say 1.33 GHz... Powermac processors are up to 3 GHz now.

$1800 or best offer for that is not that high if it includes a monitor... new dual processor powermacs go for upwards of $2500 or more for top of the line, & that's not including monitor.

She said bus, not processor. Now you may be right and she meant 1.33 Ghz processor. Even so... it's not worth close to $1800 for a used one. Macs are up to G5.
TMS @ 3/21/2007 12:46 PM
you're right, a single processor G4 for that much is ridiculous... but if it's a dual processor G5, it's reasonable.
TrueBlue @ 3/21/2007 12:52 PM
That's one of those Grey/Steel/Silver looking computers by Apple I believe. It's almsot 7 yrs old depending on Processor speed. It should be about $400-600 dollars tops if it's loaded 2GB Ram is good but how big is the hard drive, what kind of video card does it have and does it have a burner in it? The printer used as a throw in is actually a detriment to the SALE

$1800-2000 what it cost when it was released.

Yeah it's definitely not a dual processor G5. It explicitly said single processor on the paper, also.

I thought it was funny. This is probably someone who knows nothing about computers who paid $2000+ for a new computer 4-6 years ago, and then figured, well since she paid so much, she could get close to original retail for it. Ridiculous.

Computer technology quadruples every three years. At the time, the value of your three year old computer drops to about one quarter or worse.

Anyway, maybe later I'll write on there: thanks for the laugh.

It's a joke. I'm on a Mac. I'd buy a new one every year if I could get that kind of return on investment.
TMS @ 3/21/2007 12:58 PM
in case anyone's interested, i have an old Pentium Pro 200 Mhz sitting in my garage i'll let go for 1G obo... i'll even throw in a 17" CRT state of the art monitor, floppy disk drive & B&W Epson printer... black ink cartridge is extra.

let me know.
Solace @ 3/21/2007 1:25 PM
^ HAHAHA. I should post your "SALE" on the coffee bar.
TemujinKnick @ 3/21/2007 2:33 PM
Macs are beyond G5. They switched to Intel. That machine is two generations behind. Total ripoff. Check EBay or Craigslist instead.
TMS @ 3/21/2007 3:12 PM
just buy my Pentium Pro... i'll even throw in a slightly used original copy of WarCraft along with the Expansion pack CD... you can't get a deal like that on Craigslist if you tried!
