LOL... man those Boston Chowderheads are getting it rubbed in nice & good now... so well deserved after the way they chose to step on & rub it into every opponent they faced earlier in the season.
JUSTICE IS SERVED GIANTS' STYLE!

Giants could be close to trading for Falcons CB DeAngelo Hall. A first and a mid round pick would be the price.
GKFv2@ 2/22/2008 3:58 PM
That's awesome. Reese is the man.

my prayers are answered! finally an elite level cover corner to shore up our secondary... 2 picks is a pretty steep price to pay, but Hall's proven & still only 24 years old... this would be awesome if it goes down.

I don't like this move if it does happen. I am loyal to a fault and would like to stick with Ross and Webster and move Sam Madison to nickel. I want that first and mid round pick just because of what Reese has done with our draft picks last year.
TMS@ 2/27/2008 1:49 PM
Hall is an upgrade over Madison & he's a lot younger... Madison & 25 cent are gone this offseason to make room on the cap if this goes down... i think it's a good move to make.
VDesai@ 2/27/2008 2:13 PM
I don't like it because you know Hall will demand $10 mil per year or whatever Clements and Samuel will be paid. And that just isn't worth it for any CB in the NFL. I'd hate to overpay one position and leave us hamstrung.
If Webster really is this good we have a cheap solution to CB at the forseeable future with Webster and Ross- both young guys. As we have seen getting pass pressure the way our defense can cover your ills.
There is no doubt Hall is worth a late first rounder and the cost to acquire him might not be a big deal- its just the long term ramifications of retaining a player like that.

Looks like the Raiders are going to sign Gibril Wilson for $6.5 mil a year (not final yet).
The Bills signed Kawika Mitchell:

Success breeds rewards.

And also looking like Reggie Torbor to the Dolphins.

that really sucks, Wilson's 1 of the guys i really wanted to hold onto, but that's a huge chunka change for a S... Mitchell's gone too... that's whack too but i do wanna see what Gerris Wilkinson can do as a starter fulltime... seems like a playmaker.
VDesai@ 3/3/2008 6:55 PM
Giants have signed Sammy Knight to replace Gibril Wilson. Knight is older, but a perfect stopgap for them to draft a replacement. He had over 100 tackes and 4 picks last year, but isn't the fastest guy in the world. 3 yr deals worth 5 mil, bonus of 1.25 mil makes him very cuttable, even after 1 year.
eViL@ 3/3/2008 8:49 PM
Good move, Reese. At least Reese seems to have a plan / philosophy that he sticks to. Add solid vets. Promote your solid young guys. Eschew current solid players that are looking for star money and replace them with solid guys at the correct market price. In football it is so important to have dudes you can rely on at every position. There are very few superstar talents that can cover up for glaring deficiencies in other areas. Hence, it's better to have a team full of solid guys and no superstars than it is to have superstar players and holes in other parts of your team. And it goes without saying, you don't ever want to overpay.

Giants signed David Carr to be their backup QB. Looks like a 1 yr deal. I really like this move. Chris Palmer our QB coach, used to be his OC, and he could be a good reclamation project. At the very least he gives us better insurance behind Manning than we had last year.
TMS@ 3/12/2008 4:32 PM
i'm not too excited about it to be honest... we don't need a QB who's never proven he can win at this level being our backup... we're SERIOUSLY lucky Eli didn't miss a game after that separated shoulder early last season cuz our backup was a completely unproven w/no real experience at the position... given Carr's got experience starting in this league, but for the most part those starts have been pretty negative showing if you ask me
IMO what we need is a reliable veteran who's won in the past & maybe on the downside of their career but can still be effective... hell, i'd have rather given Doug Flutie a shot than David Carr... just MHO... it's not a disaster move since it's a 1 year deal obviously & i'm not crazy opposed to this one, but i would have preferred a more reliable backup option personally.
VDesai@ 3/12/2008 4:45 PM
Carr was fine up untill year 4/5- I think the sacks really got to him. He has a cannon arm and he can move. I think with his old coach (Chris Palmer) that might help him get some confidence back. Playing behind a real OL will help him as well. It's low risk/high reward. When Cleo Lemon is getting 3 yrs 9 mil with 3 to sign, this is a great bargain IMO.
It also looks like the Giants signed LB Danny Clark. He was drafted by Coughlin in Jax and had a couple of 100 tackle years in Oakland. He would provide really nice depth as the backup Strongside backer and middle linebacker. Would be a really nice veteran signing to essentially replace Torbor.
TMS@ 3/12/2008 4:48 PM
i like the Clark signing a lot better... good solid choice to replace Torbor... on another topic, i think Wilkinson's gonna make plays starting at LBer & open a lot of eyes next season, assuming he gets through the season healthy.
VDesai@ 3/12/2008 4:51 PM
Giants like Wilkinson a lot and that's why the let Mitchell walk for what was really a reasonable contract. Wilkinson is fast and can cover, if he can be stout against the run and provide some pressure with the Blitz he can be an upgrade there next year. He's far less limited than Mitchell.
NYKBocker@ 3/14/2008 10:49 AM
I hope Reese targets either a LB, SS or FS in the first and second round of the draft. I would be happy with either Dan Connor or Jerod Mayo, both LBers with 4.5 speed. If Kenny Phillips(Safety from The U) slips to us then he should be picked up right away and target the LB in the 2nd round.
