We cut Woodson and had to pick up John Carney for a little while since Tynes is hurt. We also cut Brandon London who looked like he could be a player.
Ewww John Carney? That guy is only good from 39 and in. I woulda signed Feely back.

I'd take him alot sooner then I'd take John Carney though.
Problem is the Giants obviously wouldn't (and apparently neither would the Chiefs or Dolphins who've already cut him this year).
Interesting bit of news that no one mentioned is Luke Petitgout tested postive for Steroids and got suspended for 4 games. People were shocked when he got cut so hastily a year ago, but now you have some idea why....
Yeah but when John Carney is missing kicks left and right, I'll be wishing we had Feely. Whether he has a big mouth or not, he was 21/23 last year while making 9 from 40-49 and 1 from 50+

Jay Feely also had the worst kickoff distance in the NFL last year.
Carney hit 12/14 last year and and 23/25 the year before. Not bad for what amounts to a 1 or 2 game stopgap most likely.
Anyone else worried about the OLBs? I think the line, while not as dominant as last year, will be just fine. But the linebacker situation scares the ever-loving-bejesus out of me.
i was scared ever since last season that our run defense would suffer w/the losses of Mitchell & Wilson, & now w/Osi & Stray not being here this season there's the added factor that the pass rush will also suffer, which will also negatively effect our pass coverage... there are so many issues going into this season that unless Eli just has an MVP type season to boost this offense i don't think we'll be anywhere near as good as we were last season.
Jerome McDougle is a huge signing for the Giants. He won't be replacing Osi, but Kiwanuka certainly has the talent too, and McDougle gives us the flexibility to keep moving Tuck inside on passing downs. He had a big preseason but got in a numbers game with the Eagles.
Don't underestimate Spagnuolo's ability to get creative. He has already proven to be one of the best defensive minds in the league.
I don't think you'll see much of a dropoff from Mitchell and Torbor to Wilkinson and Clark. Wilkinson is more athletic and versatile than Mitchell anyway, and Clark is a savvy vet who is at least of Torbor's quality. Brian Kehl should make an impact later in the year and has some pass rush ability. I think we'de certainly be better off with Kiwi outside and Osi still on the line, but we still have some options and we're not throwing out stiffs out there due to injury.
Our secondary is stronger than last year, even if we lost Wilson. Kenny Phillips is already the hot choice for defensive rookie of the year (Peter King is on the bandwagon). Butler is healthy and looks quicker than last year and Michael Johnson should keep improving. If Webster plays the way he did in the playoffs, Ross continues to play well and Terrell Thomas can contribute, we should be pretty deep at corner.
V, I agree with everything but your take on the OLB situation. Maybe it works out that way, but maybe not. For starters, there's no depth at the position. Then, there's the fact that Wilkinson was supposed to have earned the starting job by now... all I heard was how he is a natural physical talent who was a great value pick blah blah blah. His career has been at best underwhelming, so far. I'm not going to assume he'll replace Mitchell's production, which was vastly more than expected. Torbor underwhelmed too but in spite of that, he pressured opposing offenses. He was a threat to sack or tackle for a loss, a talent Clark can't replicate.
The whole LB dynamic has changed and I see it more as a rangy, zone-type LB corps. Which changes the dynamic of the defense and to get the same type of pressure, the secondary will need to pressure more and the DL needs to exceed its production from last season. You can't play as physical in the secondary if you need to create pressure. If the DL is always needed to get after the B, you can't drop Kiwi back like Spags would drop Osi back on TEs. The LBs take greater responsibility then in coverage, which was the weakness to begin with...
with a few hours away from the start of the season, i would like to say one thing...

i think we were all well aware of that but thanks for the reminder broham.
so far Eli looks real confident & the O Line is blocking great... Defensive stunts & blitz packages have the Skins off balance all game... Plex & Jacobs are destroying the Skins' D.

so far he's doing a great job... 3 for 3 including a long one that just put us up 16-0.
What is the status on Kiwanuka? The idiots on NBC went right to the RNC. I hate NBC coverage.
Kiwi was interviewed after the game and had no complaints. The D looked fantastic. Plax looks healthy. Still have to work out some kinks on O. Lots of miscommunication as Eli didn't have most of his recievers during the Pre. Brandon Jacobs looked great though.
Okay, I was doubtful about Clark before the game, but I was more than happy with his performance tonight. Everything looked more than great. Awesome.
I was at Hooters for the game and only just heard that Tisch was booed for the PSL thing... anyone know where Ic an see video of that? I've been looking but cannot find it
