This team sucks donkey balls. I say five or six wins is about right.
sorry to say i can't disagree w/u there... six wins might even be stretching it... another lost year... let's hope there's a dominant OLB in the college ranks we can nab in the draft next year.
I was talking about this with my buddy earlier tonight... where do you begin? The entire secondary is garbage. Both OLBs suck. Antonio Pierce is all heart and on a good team he is great, but he's like 5'2" and when OLBs suck, his lack of physical gifts are completely exposed. The pash rush in theory should be good, but thats God awful and is contributing to how terrible the secondary is.
The Giants need:
2 CB
1 SS
1 FS
1 WLB
1 SLB
and a pass rush... I'm not sure if new coaching will fix that problem or linebackers that can get to the QB, or if the team doesn't have the DL depth I thought it did coming into the season.
So, OLB is a natural conclusion of what the Giants need. But you could make claims for pretty much every position on the defense.
i agree. their defense needs a LOT of work. like i said before, though, the good news is that most of the players that are good on defense like osi, pierce, ross and wilson are still young and will get better. offensively, i think they are set, though the last game looked the opposite. they will get a high pick next year for the draft as they will be last in the division. so they will possibly get two first round talents in the first and second round for their defense. like i said, 2009 is their year. two years to get rid of strahan and bring in new blood on defense that will work well with the cooordinator's aggressive scheme ( if he isn't bounced out with coughlin).
a better pass rush will help out the secondary tremendously... i was screaming all game long for someone to pressure Favre & they didn't even get close... it was pathetic... Favre had all day to pass & was hitting his men downfield like it was a practice scrimmage.
we need a dominant OLB in a bad way to help out Pierce, Osi & Tuck... Strahan's done... he's not even close to being the dominant DE he used to be anymore... we need to put Kiwanuka back at his natural position & bring in a veteran LBer for the rest of this year, & have Tuck see a lot more snaps... he's an emerging player that can pressure the QB.
the secondary is pathetic as well, but drafting a cover CB isn't going to impact this team as much as drafting an OLB will IMHO... we can always go after a cover corner in free agency if need be... when the hell is McQuarters' contract up? he's the worst cover corner i've seen here since Elvis Patterson... what a joke!

There isn't much the Giants front 4 can do when Favre is shredding them up with 6-8 yard dinks. I'm very dissapointed in the defensive scheme that is being run. I think the Giants have the talent on the defense but the new coordinator is being exposed. His scheme planning is very weak.
I think the Giants need to play a zone defense and convert the defense from a 4-3 to a 3-4. The secondary is atrocious man to man. The Giants need to drop three LB into coverage and the 4 outside linebacker Kiwanuka needs to rush the QB every time sort of like what LT use to do. If they do that I can see Kiwanuka getting 10 sack this year. Osi, Tuck and Strahan round out the line.
I'm not gonna give up on this season yet, but I'll say this much -- this team is comically mismanaged. They draft Kiwi as a DE. He plays great at DE. Then this year they switch him to LB in a patchwork move that hasn't worked out and has potential to stunt his growth at his natural position. Meanwhile, there were LB's in this past draft and instead of drafting one they pick a 25 year old CB who is now playing behind an aging Madison, a first-round bust in Webster and the notably crappy McQuarters. I'd have less of an issue with drafting Ross if he was gonna plug into a spot immediately. However, that's not the case -- it's obvious the need was at LB and they ignored it, opting instead to play a young potential-laden DE out of position. That's just silly stuff.
And on another topic -- could the players on this team be any more retarded? After he skipped out on the entire training camp while his teammates were sweating their asses off running two-a-days -- our players voted Strahan a team captain?? Are you kidding me...
I can go on, but I won't. LET'S GO GIANTS!!!

What are people thinking about the Jints this year?
Will the loss of Tiki kill them or will they have more of a balanced attack?
Why are there programs dedicated to the Jets' offseason happenings, but nothing on the Giants? I blame YES and MSG. Don't the Giants have a bigger fan base?
If and when the Giants start winning, then maybe we can make this point. Weaky Tiki should have been thrown off the team several years ago. He's the suckbury of the Giants.

Can someone escort this guy out of here.
fucking douchebag team! The defense sucks and the offense sucks even more!!
EDIT: Not true for the second half. Finally won some money on football this year.

This is classic Giants -- when the defense finally steps up, the offense steps down. How many drops have we had?
Phew! They needed that win... D looked real good in the second half, but made the end way too scary.

True but a great win tonight.
Watched the game last night, didn't think the Giants can turn it around after the awful first half. If they keep performing like they did in the second half, this should be an interesting season.
well, vmart called it. once they switched to zone, things start happening for the jints. good victory especially with a formidable opponent like the eagles coming into town next week. we could have easily started with a winless month. i thought manning looked great most of the time besides the picks and fumble. he could have had more yards if shock and plax didn't drop the passes that they were supposed to make. overall, good win and the best sports weekend i had in a long time ( GO METS!!).
this team will win just enough games to get a bad draft pick this season & miss out on the playoffs... sounds eerily familiar... PROVE ME WRONG BIG BLUE!!! (good win the other day tho)
Justin Tuck is a monster. We got some pressure on the QB and all of sudden are coverage isn't that bad. Also helped Washington wasn't trying to hit the TE down the middle all day (how other teams exploited us). I thought Sam Madison played an excellent game yesterday (helped out in run D). As did Aaron Ross, with the exception of just missing out on deflecting the last pass to Randle-El. But watch the last play of the game again....Ross makes a huge play, taking on the FB and tripping him up and subsequently Betts, as the rest of the team flies and and tackles Betts. Ross doesn't make that play and Betts can maybe dive forward into the endzone. Ross has played nice and physical and I think he's coming around.
The O is very solid. Just need to cut down the drops. Last two weeks could've been 30 pt efforts if we catch at least the easy drops (Plax and Shockey deep balls).

that's why i say our biggest need is a pass rushing OLBer... if we can get consistent pressure on the opposing QB's in games, our piss poor secondary won't be as exposed.

Kiwanuka really came around Sunday. If we can afford to be patient I think we can get some big time play from him, but there are gonna be growing pains.
Mitchell made a nice stop late in the game, but he really needs to be out of the starting lineup ASAP. Wilkinson or Blackburn should get a shot to play.

Madison was making plays too... i'm still waiting for our "Captain" Strahan to do something, though he did get some pressure on Campbell a couple times that led to sacks by Kiwa & Tuck.

I missed the game... was Kiwi playing as a LB or did he shift? His stats looked really, really good. Those can obviously be misleading, but I just assumed he saw some time on the line given his numbers.
If he can actually pull off the LB position, my feelings for the future are a bit different, as getting him, Tuck and Umenyiora on the field for the majority of the time would be insane.
They moved Kiwi around a little bit (that's how he got his sacks) but he didn't have any problems with coverage and made a lot of tackles.
Now that things are back on track -- Plaxico's right ankle is acting up. They sent him in to see a specialist today. I hope it doesn't effect him too much.
LET'S GO GIANTS!!!
