Only a few days into the offseason and already buzz is surfacing that the New York Giants will lock up Eli Manning to a contract that could make him the highest paid NFL player.
Ralph Vacchiano writes in today's Daily News:
Based on interviews with several agents and personnel people, Eli Manning appears to be in line for a seven- or eight-year contract worth $110 million-$120 million with $40 million in guarantees.
Gary Myers calls Eli the "foundation and future of the franchise":
If you watched him play down the stretch in December and against the Eagles and were not aware he won the Super Bowl last year, you might wonder why the Giants would sign him at all or how he made his first Pro Bowl this year. But he's won big games for them. He won the biggest game for them. And the magical $100 million figure has become market value for a quarterback who has won the Super Bowl, and even for some who haven't.
It's believed Manning will have $40 million guaranteed.
holy shnikey's that's a lotta chedda!
I'm hearing Spags took the Rams job. Bummer.
Yeah, it was on NFL.com or whatever. That sucks but it was inevitable. Oh well, it's time to see if the D is for real now.
Look for Bill Sheridan to take over, though I'm sure we'll interview a couple of outside candidates.
I hear Dom Capers is the guy we want. He worked with Coughlin in Jacksonville.

Yeah all the talk is about Capers now. There was a lot of talk that we'd bring him in when we hired Spags, but we didn't. The rumor is Spags wants Sheridan to be his DC. I think we'll probably at least interview Sheridan for the job before we let him go. If that's been working closest under Spags and being "groomed," that is the guy we should bring in. Capers would also be an excellent hire- he has a long succesful track record and is one of the innovators of the zone blitz, but there is some argument to continuity.
anyone watching the Cards - Eagles game? remember when i was ranting about how Gilbride shoulda threw in a wrinkle or trick play to keep the Eagles' overpursuing D honest last week? they just ran a hand off & reverse pass back to the QB play where Kurt Warner hit Larry Fitzgerald deep for something like a 60 yard bomb for a TD... Cards up 14-3.
*sigh*
good luck Kurt... i'm rooting for you to get to the SB this year!
Watching the Eagles perform makes the Giants loss that much more pathetic. We should have wiped the floor with them.
the Eagles D played much better last week, i can't say we shoulda wiped the floor w/them, but we definitely shoulda had a chance to win the game regardless... we had so many opportunities to have the game w/in reach but for those 2 missed FG's by Carney which were both very makeable & for the nonsensical playcalls by our OC... Eli's bad play didn't help either obviously, but man, watching this game is really tough cuz we could be playing right now.

I know, man. I know...
Eagles' D getting owned by the Cards offense... awesome execution by the players & an awesome gameplan by the Cards' OC.
Larry F w/his 3rd TD of the game... wow.
21-6 Arizona

Cards have been on a different level in the playoffs. They destroyed Carolina and Atlanta (two pretty good teams) and now are crushing the Eagles. They have raised their game significantly.
i agree, i think the G-Men woulda probably been getting owned too by this team... they look incredible on both sides of the ball right now.

In our current state without Plax, it was going to be very difficult to make it through. The reality of the situation is that the Giants didn't play particularly well over the last 5-6 weeks of the season.

that's why i was concerned about those losses even tho it didn't really hinge on our winning the division late in the season... we needed to go into the playoffs playing like champs just like last season... instead we came out lackadaisical & completely unmotivated... losing Plax was huge like i said it would be but we could have won last week's game w/o him, we just didn't have an effective game plan & guys didn't execute when they had the chance.
Great. Cardinals are licking ass now.
Oh wow, awesome! Fucking choke artists.
wow... impressive comeback by the Eagles... great game so far.
Suck it McNabb! Go take your choking ass back to Philly with their crappy cheesesteaks.
awesome game... too bad no one could go to the Eagles sideline & see who was calling McNabb.
Cardinals had an awesome last drive. That was some championship level guts to be able to respond to that huge Eagle comeback.
